Q107.5 RETURNS AS WHBQ-FM SHIFTS TO ADULT CHR
The dominoes created by the upcoming demise of Audacy Hot AC “FM 100” WMC-FM Memphis have begun as Flinn Broadcasting Classic Hits 107.5 WHBQ-FM Germantown TN has flipped to Adult leaning CHR under its former “Q107.5” branding.
The new brand is positioning as “The #1 Hit Music Station” and featuring music from the 90s through now. WHBQ-FM was previously CHR for sixteen years until flipping to Classic Hits in September 2020. The station had begun trending up in the ratings the past two months rising 1.0 – 1.8 – 2.2.
APD/MD Joe Mack continues as afternoon host and Syd Neighbors will continue to host middays. WHBQ-FM has dropped Rick Dees’ “Daily Dees” from mornings with the change.
Following WHBQ-FM’s dropping of CHR, Flinn relaunched the format on 1430 WOWW and translators most recently as “B97.7” which currently has a 0.5 share. The market also is served by iHeartMedia’s “101.9 Kiss-FM” KWNW, which had a 1.1 share in the March 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings.I think this one switched to HAC.

Why did MB tell me they don't monitor online radio if they're monitoring streaming radio according to this panel?

I would argue that WHBQ FM is CHR and not Hot A/C.

I would argue that WHBQ FM is CHR and not Hot A/C. No it’s not. Their powers rotate roughly 60x a week, they played 6 golds in their sample hour (which was in the morning daypart) and their top 10 includes Trustfall, Take my Name and the Dean Lewis song that is currently #5 on HAC yet nowhere to be found on CHR. They do play Montero and Industry Baby, but the inclusion of those two songs alone isn’t enough to justify it being called a CHR imo.

WTDY-FM RELAUNCHES AS THE NEW 96.5
After stunting for four days with nonstop Taylor Swift, Audacy CHR “96.5 TDY” WTDY-FM Philadelphia has relaunched as Hot AC “The New 96.5“. The new brand moves WTDY-FM closer to sister AC “B101” WBEB and away from iHeartMedia CHR “Q102” WIOQ. The station’s lineup will continue to feature Michael Bennett in mornings. Bennett has been with 96.5 through its multiple iterations since 2013. V Hale, midday host at “Alice 97.3” KLLC San Francisco, will add those duties at WTDY-FM. Mike Adam, afternoon host at Hot AC “New 102.7” WNEW New York, adds afternoons. Adam previously worked at 96.5 when it was CHR “96.5 Amp Radio” WZMP in 2015-16 and at WIOQ from 2012-14 under the air name ‘Prolifik’. Bru remains in nights. WTDY-FM had been trending up in the past four months 1.2 – 1.7 – 2.1 – 2.2, but still trailed WIOQ and its 2.8 share in the March 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings. radioinsight.com/headlines/252084/wtdy-fm-relaunches-as-the-new-96-5/

POWER 96 MOVES TO RHYTHMIC GOLD FOCUS
Right after Audacy CHR “B96” WBBM-FM Chicago moved to a gold based Rhythmic focus last month, it was also joined by another one of the company’s stations.
“Power 96” WPOW-FM Miami also adopted a gold heavy presentation with only 4 currents and recurrents per hour. The station’s top current spins per week have dropped from the high 90s to the 60s. WPOW-FM is still positioning as “Miami’s Party Station” with music stretching from the 1990s to now.
The 2pm hour on Thursday, May 18 featured: Daft Punk – Get Lucky Metro Boomin ft. The Weekend & 21 Savage – Creepin’ Kevin Lyttle – Turn Me One The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber – Stay Usher – U Got It Bad Coi Leray – Players Rihanna – Don’t Stop The Music The Weeknd – Heartless Chris Brown – With You Miley Cyrus – Flowers Sean Paul – We Be Burning Mariah Carey – We Belong Together Dr. Dre – Still D-R-E The Weeknd – Die For You Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne – Down Dua Lipa – Levitating
WPOW-FM rose from a 2.2 to 2.6 share in the April 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings, which took place mostly before the changes. That placed it behind iHeartMedia CHR “Y100” WHYI’s 3.3 to 3.5 gain and Cox Media Group’s Rhythmic Hot AC “Hits 97.3” WFLC and its 2.3 to 2.8 rise. While the move pushes WPOW-FM away from WHYI and WFLC, Power’s presentation is more Hip-Hop oriented musically, and WFLC is centered on Rhythmic Pop.

It is the rest of the CHR Stations that MB monitors but are not part of the Published Chart
It's a way of measuring the music that hasn't impacted mainstream radio yet or if a song comes back from "recurrentland" or for example when a song makes its "revival" like Bllody Mary, Sure thing did .. at least this is where they start the trends that the TOP 40 Official Stations adopt afterwards
This is something I've seen over time, how MB uses this panel. If I'm wrong, someone who knows more about MB Panels could explain more in depth..

Yeah, they're just the other stations Mediabase monitors, but do not contribute to the published chart. It's all smaller markets.

HOT 106.7 NASHVILLE FLIPS TO CLASSIC COUNTRY “Y’ALL 106.7”
Midwest Communications CHR “Hot 106.7” WNFN Franklin/Nashville TN has flipped to 90s based Classic Country “Y’all 106.7“.
The flip followed an hour long loop of 2 Unlimited’s “Get Ready For This” before debuting with Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever, Amen”, Shania Twain “No One Needs To Know”, and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band “Fishin’ In The Dark”. Travis was in studio to kick off the launch (pictured below).
Ron Allen, Brand Manager for Variety Hits “96.3 Jack-FM” WCJK, adds Brand Manager duties for WNFN. Allen also served as Format Captain for Midwest’s “Duke-FM” Classic Country stations across the company.
The new format targets Cumulus Media’s “95.5 Nash Icon” WSM-FM, which rose lost month from a 7.2 share to 8.8 ranking third overall, but just behind Midwest’s market leading AC “Mix 92.9” WJXA and WCJK.
WNFN has dropped over the past four months from a 3.2 share in January down to a 1.6 in April. The January monthly was the only time since its 2009 flip to CHR that the station beat iHeartMedia’s “107.5 The River” WRVW, which registered a 3.1 share in April.

WKFS MOVES TO 2000S GOLD HEAVY PLAYLIST
iHeartMedia’s “Kiss 107.1” WKFS Milford/Cincinnati OH has joined the growing number of CHR stations shifting to a gold-heavy presentation.
WKFS is still playing 3-4 currents per hour, but has removed all of its recurrents and recent golds replacing them with golds mostly from 2000 to 2010. Imaging makes references to “The Kiss You Love Is Back” and positioning has shifted from “Cincinnati’s #1 Hit Music Station” to “Your Summer Party Station”.
WKFS rose from a 1.9 to a 2.1 share in the May 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings placing it fifteenth overall in the Cincinnati market, but way behind Hubbard CHR “Q102” 101.9 WKRQ, which placed fifth after a 6.6 to 5.9 drop last month.
The 8:00am hour on Wednesday, July 5 on “Kiss 107.1” featured:
Chris Brown – Forever
50 Cent – In Da Club
Miley Cyrus – Flowers
Ciara ft. Ludacris – Oh
Jason Derulo – In My Head
The Weeknd – Die For You
Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone
Miguel – Sure Thing
Petey deleted – Freek-A-Leek
JoJo – Leave (Get Out)
Rema & Selena Gomez – Calm Down
Shaggy – It Wasn’t Me
FLINN FLIPS TWO IN MEMPHIS WITH LMA
wo changes took place in Memphis on Tuesday, July 4.
Power Media Solutions began operating Flinn Broadcasting’s 87.7 WPGF-LD Memphis as R&B Oldies “Right On Radio“. The station describes itself as playing music from the 1950s through the early 2000s. Power Media Solutions also began operating Flinn’s Classic Hip Hop “Bumpin 96.3” W242CF Memphis/107.5 WHBQ-HD2 Germantown earlier this year. The local marketing company is led by longtime Memphis radio and television personality Tina Tilton. Christie Taylor is serving as Operations Manager. Taylor also worked on-air at multiple stations in Memphis including middays on 103.5 WRBO from 2015-19.
With WPGF-LD’s flip, AAA “The Pig” has moved to 1430 WOWW Germantown/97.7 W249BN Memphis. Those signals were most recently CHR “B97.7” until 107.5 WHBQ-FM flipped from Classic Hits to Hot AC in late April. The “Pig” brand previously had been utilized by Flinn multiple times over the past two decades with stints on 107.5 from 2002-04, 96.1 from 2004-10, 87.7 from 2010-11 and again earlier this year, and as an online brand. The new incarnation of the Pig is one of the few commercially operated stations
- This stations still on Mediabase Top 40 panels the changes probably begins this weekend.

1: All Access seems to have stopped updating their panel list. KAMP is still on ther despite being dead for a while.
2: Holy (expletive deleted), this format seems to be heading downhill. That must be 7 or 8 stations dropped this year. That is not a good sign for radio.

101.5 THE VIBE DEBUTS IN TAMPA WPOI Flips Adult R&B
As first tipped back on our August 15 Domain Insight, Cox Media Group flipped CHR “Hot 101.5” WPOI St. Petersburg/Tampa FL to Adult R&B “101.5 The Vibe” WTBV at noon today.
The new brand is positioning as “Tampa Bay’s Only R&B” as it fills a niche not normally done in the market. iHeartMedia Hip Hop “95.7 The Beat” WBTP had previously dayparted some Adult R&B, while NIA Broadcasting’s 1150 WTMP and its translators emphasize R&B Oldies. The station debuted with Mark Morrison “Return of The Mack”, Patrice Rushen “Forget Me Nots” and Aaliyah “Rock The Boat” and is promoting $1000 giveaways starting Monday, September 11.
WTBV will feature Reach Media’s Rickey Smiley Morning Show as does Cox’s Adult R&B stations in Miami, Jacksonville, and Orlando.
The launch of “101.5 The Vibe” follows a 24 hour loop of Mary J Blige’s “Just Fine” preceded by “Hot 101.5” ending with N’Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye” and LMFAO “Party Rock Anthem”, the latter of which was its first song when it debuted its CHR identity in July 2011.
INSTANT INSIGHT: The flip brings to an end the twelve year run of the station that was arguably the most successful of the second CHR’s to launch in many markets in the late 2000s/early 2010s. On the backs of morning shows hosted by Jayde Donovan and later Miguel Fuller & Holly O’Connor, WPOI would regularly beat iHeartMedia’s entrenched 93.3 WFLZ. For the past two years though, WPOI was rudderless. Following the early 2022 departures of Miguel and Holly to iHeart’s “Hits 96.1” WHQC Charlotte and May 2022 departure of Program Director Will Calder, the company never moved to fill their positions with a few prominent programmers telling us Cox “ghosted them” after posting the position, but deciding in the fall of 2022 to not fill it while other talents were moved to sister stations or leaving the company.
With Cox launching “The Vibe” in Tampa and last week moving their Adult R&B “Hot” brand from a translator to full-powered signal in Jacksonville, the company is putting an increased emphasis on Adult R&B right now. Is there a greater reason behind these moves?
Original Report 9/5: After becoming one of the biggest success stories of the last CHR boom period in the early 2010s, the end appears near for Cox Media Group’s “Hot 101.5” WPOI St. Petersburg FL.
As we first reported in our August 15 Domain Insight, Cox registered a number of domains for the station pointing towards a format change at the station. Today, the company applied to change the call letters of the station to WTBV to take effect on Monday, September 11.
Launching in July 2011 at the peak of the early 2010s CHR boom, “Hot 101.5” would enter a bitter format battle with iHeartMedia’s 93.3 WFLZ. Since WPOI has dropped in the ratings as it registered a 2.2 share in the July 2023 Nielsen Audio survey, behind WFLZ’s 3.3 share.

A few months ago, on July 16th, Cumulus Media flipped Classic Hip Hop WBBF 98.9 The Vibe in Buffalo, NY to a CHR format "Hot (98.9)"
Mediabase hasn't tracked this yet, as it's not on AllAccess, but I wonder when this WBBF station will be tracked, so we can go back up to 172 stations.

KANSAS CITY’S VIBE ON THE MOVE
The next piece of Cumulus Media’s Kansas City moves will take place at midnight when CHR “95.7 The Vibe” KCHZ Ottawa KS becomes “107.3 The Vibe” on KMJK North Kansas City. The move to 107.3 will come with a number of lineup changes. The Vibe will drop the syndicated Bert Show from mornings and Elliot at night. Midday host Tyler Fry will move up to anchor “The Morning Vibe” from 6-10am. Frye joined the Vibe in December 2021 after seven years in nights at sister CHR 104.1 KRBE Houston. Frye also has hosted nights at “G105” WDCG Raleigh and “Hot 107.1” KDHT Denver. He began his career as a fill-in host at 93.3 WFLZ Tampa. The person he succeeded in middays, “103.3 The Edge” WEDG Buffalo morning host Cassaday Proctor will return to the daypart remotely from 10am-3pm. She previously hosted middays at KCHZ from 2019 until her November 2021 move to Buffalo. She has also afternoon host at “105.1 The X” KCJK and part of morning shows at “Mix 94.7” KAMX Austin, “Kiss 95.1” WNKS Charlotte, “Star 94.1” WSTR Atlanta, and Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH St. Louis. Program Director Jagger remains in afternoons. Moving to nights will be Dallace Jade. Jade, based in Colorado Springs, is heard in middays of Cumulus CHRs there and Albuquerque, afternoons in Salt Lake City and weekends on Bonneville’s KZZO Sacramento. Cumulus has not revealed whether the station will continue to simulcast on 95.7 or whether a new format will debut there. The move to 107.3 follows last week’s move of its Hip Hop/R&B format to 105.1 KCJK Garden City and relaunch as “Power 105.1“. The move to 107.3 will give the station better coverage on the Missouri side of the market as its transmitter is east of Kansas City. 95.7 is halfway between Kansas City and Lawrence KS, and also covers the Topeka KS market. Mediabase updated its Top 40 Pop panel, but I'm not sure how many stations were added or deleted from the panel?

Cumulus Media has shifted CHR “Hot 106.7” WWKL Hershey/Harrisburg PA to Rhythmic CHR.
The change took place last week as the station pivots to move its playlist closer to iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Real 99.3” WHKF Harrisburg. Positioning as “The New Sound of Hot 106.7”, WWKL is emphasizing “The Most Music In The Morning” as the station goes to a jockless music-intensive presentation in place of Westwood One’s Bert Show and a 106 minute block of music at 7pm in-place of Westwood One’s Elliot. It has also added a 12pm hour “Throwback Lunch”. radioinsight.com/headlines/267248/hot-106-7-harrisburg-goes-rhythmic/
