tekkenguy It wasn't directly because of "Blurred Lines", I agree, but it seems to me that much of his behaviour was influenced by the song's success, and it is implicitly to blame for his downfall. For instance, I don't think he would have participated in that VMA performance if he didn't have one of the biggest hits of the year (and a highly sexually suggestive one at that), and the increased public exposure probably made the infamous picture more likely to become news, which led to complications in his marriage with Paula. Consequently, if Todd's analysis is any indication, him showing to be unfaithful turned off a chunk of his female fanbase, who bought his image of a devoted gentleman. Also, thanks to "Blurred Lines", he was invited to the Billboard Music Awards the following year to promote his next project, and the blatant desperation was aired for an even larger public than usual, which made him lose credibility and 'cool' factor among the GP. That's just my take on it, of course - not even mentioning the lawsuit which also hurt his credibility among R&B fans.

Robin suddenly found himself close to A-List status after spending much of his career as sort of a niche act, and he handled the pressure and attention in the worst way possible. Not directly because of Blurred Lines but it wouldn't have happened without the song's success.

Would Mario fall under this category? He had Just a Friend 2002 in 2002 and then Let Me Love You became a hit in 2005.

Would artists getting one of their songs that wasn't their big hit sampled count? Ruth B had "Lost Boy" in 2016 (#24 peak) and got her song "Mixed Signals" sampled by Rod Wave on "Street Runner" 5 years later (#16 peak, most likely).

I know this list is US only, but here in the UK Taylor Swift was initially sort of a one hit wonder too. She had a top 5 hit with Love Story in early 2009 (which peaked at no. 2), after which she didn't have any song that did well until late 2012, almost four years later, when We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together peaked at no. 4. She did have two minor top 40 hits with You Belong With Me and Mine, but they were extremely restrained in their impact, with Mine not having gone even silver almost 11 years after release.

Snow? He had a #1 hit in 1993 with "Informer" and went away for almost 30 years and ended up getting a featuring credit on Daddy Yankee/Katy Perry's 2019 hit "Con Calma," I mean technically it just sampled Informer but he still got a small verse at the end. "Girl I've Been Hurt" would like to have a word with you outside...

Michael Damian was a one-hit wonder with "She Did It" in 1981, but 8 years later he scored a bigger hit with his cover of "Rock On."

Clean Bandit. They had Rather Be break the top 10 in 2014, disappeared from the charts for a couple years, and then returned to the top 10 in 2017 with Rockabye.

While not a chart hit, Robyn made a bit of a cultural comeback in the US when Call Your Girlfriend went viral following the SNL sketch. She was basically forgotten between 1997 and 2011.

Murray Head had a hit with "Superstar" in 1969 then came back in 1984 with "One Night in Bangkok."

If "Lifeline" becomes a hit, we can add Swedish House Mafia to this list. It has been 8 years since "Don't You Worry Child."

WizKid, he had One Dance with Drake back in 2016 and now is about to about have a top 20 hit. Isn't he like the biggest artist in Nigeria? I think that this actually opens up the discussion about whether or not artists who are successful in their country or even globally, but managed to cross over into the US only once can be counted as OHW. For example, Måneskin already that three hits across Europe, but only one really smashed in the US. Given that the US is kind of rock-proof for the time being, I could actually see them not scoring a second hit there, while being as big as currently in Europe. Would that make th a real OHW?

assuming it can get enough points to make the 2021 year-end list, we can add elle king, she had ex's and oh's in 2015 and now she'll have drunk (and i don't wanna go home) in 2021

I feel like Jeremih is the best example of this, between "Birthday Sex" smashing and then he disappeared for a while, then "Down on Me" randomly smashed after years of none of his songs doing anything, then the same happening years later with "Don't Tell 'Em." Well to be fair that was only less than two years later, and he had an Urban hit during following "Birthday Sex" with "Imma Star"

How about Mike Posner? He had "Cooler Than Me", disappeared for 5 years, then came back with "I Took a Pill in Ibiza". (Yeah he had a couple of minor hits after "Cooler Than Me", but who remembers them?) I always forget it as well (because it was very forgettable), but "Please Don't Go" was a top-10 hit on CHR

This wasn't that long of time in the grand scheme of things, but I remember thinking Nelly Furtado was a one hit wonder pre- Loose, which turned out to blow her previous success out of the water. Technically, this wasn't even correct, as "Turn off the Light" actually peaked 4 spots higher on the Hot 100 than "I'm Like a Bird," but I remember several instances on TV pre- Loose where people took a jab at her career, implying that she was only remembered for "I'm Like a Bird." Interesting, what TV shows?

How about Robin Thicke? He only had one hit (Lost Without U) for six years, before Blurred Lines started smashing. I'm not sure he was ever considered a one-hit-wonder because he had Urban hits throughout that time, "Sex Therapy" was huge on Urban in 2010

Willow, Whip My Hair continues to be her highest peaking hit in the US at 11 which came out in 2011 and now over 10 years later, Meet Me at Our Spot came out which was an international hit and peaked at 21 on the Hot 100.

Lifehouse. Hanging by a Moment was a hit in 2001 and they didn't have another one until 2005 with You and Me. Wow. First Time wasn’t a hit? It’s my favorite. Edit: Just realized that song was released on a later album.

I wouldn't say a one hit wonder but a one year wonder, 5SOS had She Looks So Perfect and Amnesia in 2014 and then Youngblood was a smash hit in 2018.

What about Daft Punk? I know they were sort of big elsewhere but the only hot 100 hits they had earlier was Around The World and One More Time in 1997 and 2000 respectively (which in fact both peaked at 61). Then they disappeared and didn’t have another charting song until Get Lucky happened in 2013 but in technical terms, that was their only “hit” for now.
Then in 2016 they teamed up with The Weeknd to get a smash hit with Starboy (and I Feel It Coming too). If being sampled on a song counts, then we could say that they got a hit with Kanye West’s Stronger, but even then they would still technically be OHW until Get Lucky happened.

Becky G had Shower become a top 20 hit in 2014 and didn’t have another song chart that high on the Hot 100 until MAMIII earlier this year.
Obviously, those who are familiar with her output and success between the two hits will get mad at me for thinking she should be considered in this thread, but since I’m talking exclusively about the Hot 100, I think it counts for these purposes.
