Is Christina Grimmie forgotten by the public? I haven't heard anyone her the way they do for Selena, for instance.

No. Just because you have doesn’t mean everyone else has.
It might be time to get Prevagen because you seem rather forgetful about things.

She never had that much success outside of YouTube. She went on The Voice in 2014 and she was murdered 2 years later (the day before the Pulse Nightclub Shooting) and that's all most people outside of YouTube know about her. If you talked to Let's Players or YouTubers who cover music, they'd remember her and probably still feel sad over her murder, but she isn't like Selena, who was arguably the biggest singer in Tejano, even before her murder, also the fact that her death happened 1 day before one of the worst terrorist attacks in American history happened didn't help with her memory. So, it's not surprising that she isn't remembered that much.

She didn't have an established mainstream career prior so obviously her death isn't going to be an Aaliyah, Amy Winehouse, Selena, etc type thing.

Honestly I don't think she was ever really known by most of the general public. Of course she's not going to be talked about like Selena.

OK maybe compare her situation to Nipsey or Pop Smoke?

OK maybe compare her situation to Nipsey or Pop Smoke? Then it's still flawed because: Pop Smoke - Not only has 6 hit songs so far - some of them being Top 10 hits, but was working with big artists in the hip-hop industry like Quavo, and 50 Cent. As far as I know, Christina was only known for her covers on YouTube, not her original material. Nipsey Hussle - Nipsey might not have been big but he had been around the West Coast scene for almost a decade before he was murdered. He also accumulated love not just for his music but also because he was doing activism for his community. Rest in peace to all three artists, all of their murder are still tragic but Christina wasn't this big A-lister or even B-lister.

I mean, I get she was murdered like the others you're bringing up, but she never had a mainstream career before her murder. If any random person on the street it going to remember her for anything, it's going to be for being a contestant on The Voice several years ago. And that's if they even remember that. I have a strong feeling most viewers of The Voice barely remember any of the contestants after whatever season they're watching ends considering the lack of anyone from that show to gain significant mainstream success.
She had a small niche of fans prior to her murder, mostly coming from YouTube and Vine, and it wasn't ever even that big to begin with, with the vast majority of views going to her covers over her originals. Even now her top three songs on Spotify aren't even hers and her top streamed song to be an original by her is at 11 million. That same song on YouTube, where her following was biggest, is under 3 million views. I believe her top viewed original song on YouTube has only 19 million views. Compare that to the multiple covers over 20+ million.
The closest comparison in this thread so far is Nipsey because he too was very niche before his murder, but his niche extended into some pretty heavy hitters who keep his memory alive and well. Not to mention his niche included some pretty strong influence in portions of the rap community. Christina never had that. Sadly, I do think she eventually would have and maybe would have eventually been able to have broken into the mainstream because her personality, voice, and material were all strong enough to, but without the powerful influence the others listed in here had or the major label backing, it was going to take quite a while for that to happen, and that time was cut insanely short.
Since this thread has brought her up on Pulse again, here's a plug that her estate is releasing another unreleased track this Friday! (The fact that she's had so many that they've released multiple every year since her passing is insane.)

He still had hype and a notable following before he died. He had noise with Welcome to the Party and Dior. Again, Christina was only big for covers. As tragic as her death was, she wasn't that famous.
