While I do consider "Springsteen" to be one of country music's most recent songs to fall into iconic status, it was in turn also one of the more harder ones for me to rank. I probably just as easily could've put this in my top 20, so I'm glad it was able to make its way in there.

I know that "Ode to Billie Jo" is iconic, but I have just never liked the song at all. I'm glad I wasn't left out all alone in the cold of the bottom rankers.

Oh, and I think Kanenrá:ke might want to be added to the tag list for this

My comment Absolutely love the storytelling in this, like the pacing, and regarding the content, the karma of ignorance to apparently "just another normal person's" death. This steadily climbed until close to top 10, but it was bumped off due to last two submissions.

So close to a perfect ranking! I had forgotten where this fell in Patsy's icon rankdown from a while back, and sure enough it landed in the top 3! As for "Crazy", I feel pretty confident it is top 10 bound.

My comment Love how she sings the song title. That's iconic vocal run.

Ode to Billie Joe is one of the few songs that I actually did not enjoy at all. Sorry, but it was not my cup of tea.
I kinda regret not being so kind to Patsy Cline on this RD, and I slightly prefer this over Crazy.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" was almost my #1. It's quite possibly the best country song of all time.

My comment This has always been a song that feels like much older than it is. Even though the story is quite exaggerated, I still find it quite touching, probably because I like the twisted meaning of the song title. This is an early #1 contender even though it is just for one submission.

Here's a random tidbit about the recording of "He Stopped Loving Her Today": George Jones was actually drunk during the entire recording process, so his producer Billy Sherrill had to take the best of what he could get from multiple takes and pieced them together.

I've come to like "I Walk the Line" less and less over the years. That's probably just because of overplay, so I still couldn't deny this a top 50 ranking myself.

My comment And here is the RS #1 song eliminated here. I think RS credited the irony too much. This (in the 10s) is a more reasonable rank, and it's a consistent top 10s throughout the submission.

I thought "I Walk The Line" was amazing until I actually heard other Johnny Cash songs. It's still great and my ranking is just this list being strong, but I prefer most Cash songs over it.

Johnny Cash is one of the most overrated figures in country music history. His voice and style is unique... but I've never thought he was particularly good.

Shame on all of us. "Coal Miner's Daughter" should've been in the top 10 here.

RS comment My comment Excellent autobiographical song. The last part of homecoming is an inspiration of The House That Built Me, I think. This waa a consistent top 10 song, but after the last two or three submissions...(you know the rest)

Doesn't have a very good voice, and he was a pretty unsavory individual. I think he'd be held in a very different light if he were around in the modern age, kinda similar to how people in recent times have started to sour on Elvis.

My comment One of the most recognizable guitar riffs here. One can also see the traditional family dynamics that mothers looking out for sons. This mostly hung around top 20 but in the lower side.
