Very much looking forward to this. Ranking the selections on the list proved to be ... interesting, especially when you're doing it for pure personal enjoyment over historical context. Some WTF selections - both good and bad, because I like seeing Neko Case there - but it should be an overall fun time. Thanks in advance, Sunny.

Technically the new deadline has passed, but I am still waiting for these people if they want to send: kw9461 taylor bboat11In the meantime, let's have another ballot update (with 14 participants) because the rankdown has changed a lot since the first ballot update (with 6 participants). Two songs are having more than one #1 rank. One of which is the winner. The #2 and #3 songs firstly reached this position after the latest submission. The #100 reached this position since the last two submission. It also has the lowest SD. The highest SD song involves somebody's #1 and somebody's #100. Two ties are at #52 and #96. In the meantime, here is the pre-reveal questionnaire: 1. What song will be #1? 2. What song will be #100? 3. What songs will be in top 10? 4. What songs will be in bottom 10? 5. What songs will have high SD? 6. What songs will have low SD? 7. Rolling Stone clearly loves multiple entries for many artists lol. Which of the song will perform best for these artists? a. Brad Paisley: Alcohol vs Welcome to the Future b. Buck Owens and the Buckaroos: Act Naturally vs I've Got a Tiger By the Tail c. Dolly Parton: Coat of Many Colors vs Jolene d. Garth Brooks: Friends in Low Places vs The Dance e. George Jones: He Stopped Loving Her Today vs The Grand Tour vs The Race Is On vs Golden Ring f. Hank Williams: I Saw The Light vs I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry vs Lost Highway vs Settin' the Woods on Fire vs Your Cheatin' Heart g. Jimmie Rodgers: Blue Yodel No. 1 (T For Texas) vs Standing On the Corner (Blue Yodel #9) h. Johnny Cash: Folsom Prison Blues vs I Walk the Line vs Ring of Fire i. Left Frizzell: If You've Got the Money, I've Got the Time vs Long Black Veil j. Loretta Lynn: Coal Miner's Daughter vs Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind) vs The Pill k. Merle Haggard: Mama Tried vs Okie from Muskogee l. Patsy Cline: Crazy vs I Fall to Pieces m. Tammy Wynette: D-I-V-O-R-C-E vs Stand By Your Man vs Golden Ring n. The Carter Family: Can the Circle Be Unbroken vs Wildwood Flower o. Willie Nelson: Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys vs Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain 8. Any other thoughts?

1. What song will be #1? Jolene 2. What song will be #100? This is harder to guess... I'll predict one of Jimmie's "Yodel" numbers. 3. What songs will be in top 10? I think (and hope) we'll get both Dolly songs, at least 2 of Loretta's, "Stand By Your Man," probably 1 of Johnny Cash's, "Mama Tried," "Crazy," "Goodbye Earl," maybe Carrie Underwood? 4. What songs will be in bottom 10? Most of the yodel stuff I imagine. The instrumental. "Friends in Low Places" (please). "The Christian Life" maybe? 5. What songs will have high SD? Hank Williams songs 6. What songs will have low SD? Dolly Parton songs 7. This was a pretty strong list, though there were definitely quite a few head-scratching choices made here as to what they included and also some glaring omissions as well. "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" and "Strawberry Wine" are two of the most obvious songs left off that should've 100% been here. I get why Hank Williams got several entries, but also... we could've snipped 1 or 2 of his ("Lonesome," "Cheatin'" and "Light" were the true essentials). And then there could've been a lot less of the yodel numbers... I understand we needed some, but it was overkill, lol. I also love "Mean" by Taylor Swift but it stands out a bit in this list considering how little they included from the past ~15 years.

1. What song will be #1? Goodbye Earl 2. What song will be #100? Standing On the Corner (Blue Yodel #9) 3. What songs will be in top 10? Independence Day, Mama Tried, I Hope You Dance, Jolene, Coat Of Many Colors, Before He Cheats, Crazy, Don't Come Home A' Drinkin', I Walk The Line (I tanked some of these, but I think they'll still make it). 4. What songs will be in bottom 10? Hard to say, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, Blue Yodel No. 1 (T For Texas), Convoy, Lovesick Blues, and not sure about the rest. 5. What songs will have high SD? Taylor Swift - Mean 6. What songs will have low SD? The Chicks - Goodbye Earl 7. This was an interesting RD. I'm not too familiar with many of the classic stuff, and made some great discoveries. I really didn't like my bottom 5, but the rest were very strong, and many songs were quite close, in terms of my rankings. Thus I tanked some songs that would be popular here, but it doesn't necessarily mean I hated it. At the same time, I wish a little more contemporary materials from early 2010s made it here, as I love those eras, and I felt like some songs on the list do not necessarily belong here. Hopefully, I won't lose my top 2 too soon, as those are my all-time fav country songs.

1. What song will be #1? I see this as a pretty tight race between "Independence Day" and "Jolene"!
2. What song will be #100? "La Porte en Arriere" or whatever it was called...
3. What songs will be in top 10? "Independence Day", "Jolene", "Coat Of Many Colors", "Stand By Your Man", "All My Ex's Live In Texas", "Fancy", "Goodbye Earl", "Before He Cheats", "Mama Tried", "He Stopped Loving Her Today".
4. What songs will be in bottom 10? Jimmie's Yodel Numbers, "La Porte en Arriere", "Jole Blone", "Lovesick Blues", "New San Antonio Rose", "Foggy Mountain Breakdown", "Redneck Mother", "Sitting On Top Of The World", and maybe "Wildwood Flower"?
5. What songs will have high SD? "Mean" for sure. "Friends In Low Places". Also maybe some of the Hank Williams songs.
6. What songs will have low SD? "Independence Day" and "Stand By Your Man" up high. "La Porte en Arriere" and "Jole Blone" down low.
This is going to be a very interesting rankdown, for sure!!! I fully expect the demographics of Pulse to help the more contemporary artists to have a bit of a boost, so our top 10 will likely consist of a lot of the usual suspects (Martina, Carrie, George, Reba, Dolly, possibly Lee Ann, although I didn't put her in my prediction above).

RS Comment:
Surprising to some, the first song eliminated is not a French song. This version of the song is said to inspire Hank Williams' version. And the most recent version that went viral?
My comment: The sing-talking style together with his quite sharp vocals and ancient production don't give this song favor. Either Hank Williams or (unpopular opinion) Mason Ramsey's viral version is better than this with more pleasant yodeling imo. This song has only slipped in last place in the last few submissions. It's more of nobody likes this song much that it got a last place here.

This song was absolute dogshit. Beyond mystified that this was included in a ranking of 'greatest' country songs of all-time.

RS Comment:
The second song that leaves the rankdown is a Cajun song (and hence lyrics in French) that is dubbed "the Cajun national anthem" because of its popularity. Notable versions include those by Roy Acuff and Waylon Jennings.
My comment: It has historically significance, but aside from being sung in French, I don't find itself too interesting. This spent time in last place during second half of submission process but is saved from last place by final lists.

My Comment: This is a song from an album that might be more popular nowadays due to cardboard satan on cover than the content. I am not religious so I don't have particular feelings towards this. This song spent some time in last place during close to middle of submission process, but some ranks outside bottom 20 saved this.
