I Don't Do Drugs or Love To Dream would be better single options, but this is alright I guess

She's a grower but imo Options and NTK should have been the single pick instead

I feel like this will ride the name recognition hype into top 20 and then fizzle. yea I'm not hearing any hook or melody or anything at all.

"I got a man but I want you" screams TikTok potential imo so idk about "not hearing any hook" and all that

on this week's episode of RELEASED, she revealed that the song was complete as a solo track with 2 Doja Cat verses, before they decided to get an Abel verse. She said she's working on something to hopefully release the song with the second verse she originally had. I think what frustrates me with the Abel "cameo" is that he has co-lead credit when other artists on the album don't. Did he contribute more than SZA contributed to "Kiss Me More"? I don't think so, especially since we have confirmation that he wasn't part of the creative process for anything besides his own verse. It’s quite bizarre that The Weeknd is given a lead credit on this. But I suspect this had something to do with Abel and Doja sharing the same management team so that’s probably how this all played out.

This is probably the best song on the album. Which doesn't say much, but yeah, I can't hear any more obvious singles on first listen. And I'd love for one of her more r&b songs like this one to really blow up on radio (poor Streets) cause the pop songs don't really seem to represent her. Kiss Me More being last on the album and sticking out like a sore thumb speaks volumes kiss me more, you right and ain't s**t are the only single choices for this album

The Weeknd feature might push this into the Top 15, but idk how much further it will go

This is quite underwhelming even for Doja, but The Weeknd feature is totally insignificant. I guess "Kiss Me More" was not the step into total dominance in the charts, but a one-off hit followed by uneventful album. Doja you failed me... And after that I think "Streets" is her masterpiece along with the video, which should have had much bigger promotion...

I'm going to give this song a few more listens and see if I didn't hype myself up for nothing because this song is underwhelming. They should have gone with Ari's .duet if they were going for name recognition alone for single 2. In my opinion that song packs a little more of a punch but slightly underwhelming as well. My favorite track so far from her latest besides for "Kiss Me More" is "Naked".

It's the first time I've seen a semi-rooted in reality post from sigur. I'm shocked.

This song grew on me. It’s the right choice for the 2nd single. Although I must say justice for “Need To Know.”

This really grew on me, its melodies are so catchy and it's just fun but I do agree The Weeknd adds nothing to this Probably the best single choice, maybe Options, Aint Shit or Been Like This could be sent next

I like this on first listen. Such a nice groove. And I like The Weeknd's part too, he nestles right into the song.

I generally think she should be striving to get a little more urban airplay especially after Best Friend, but You Right probably won't do it.

It seems like her team is not bothering at all with trying to cater to an urban audience. The fact that she skipped out on appearing at the BET awards during album release week is very telling where her marketing team’s head is. They are focusing on pop audiences.

It makes sense, urban radio basically rejected her last year so why cater to them when pop radio is eating her up. Ironically reminds me of The Weeknd, he pretty much dropped urban audiences last year and focused on pop.

I mean, she makes Pop music (nothing wrong with that) so that makes sense . . . comparable to Flo Rida, for example. It’s understandable why Urban would be hesitant to play her music.

^ I think it's more complex than that. I feel as though the problem is her ambivalent reception in the black community. She is black but her rise to fame was not rooted in the black community, if that makes sense. In fact, Urban radio took chance on her at the beginning. "Tia Tamera" got a decent amount of adds and "Juicy" actually went Top 10, which was a great achievement against her profile at that time. Only after "Say So" (remixed by Nicki, who was basically blackballed in Urban) and "Like That" it became apparent that Urban isn't too enthusiastic about spinning her. Apart from "Say So" and "Kiss Me More", most of these other songs are pretty much Urban flavored music.

I think she's in a similar situation as Rih was early in her career. She is a pop artist first. But I do agree that with this album, it is much more Urban leaning.
I think You Right could so something there.

Apart from "Say So" and "Kiss Me More", most of these other songs are pretty much Urban flavored music. I think it's indicative of pop being kind of rejected by urban audiences in general, I remember for years Rihanna wasn't really respected by black audiences and urban didn't spin her music because she made pop music. Same deal for Nicki, who hasn't had a pop hit in years at this point but urban is still hesitant to play her. The newest example aside from Doja is The Weeknd, who has had quite the history with urban audiences going back to his debut but since "After Hours" he's been sorta blackballed, even his most R&B/Urban hit from that album "Heartless" only reached #12 on Urban Radio (it reached #4 on Pop). So it's not just pop artists, even artists who grew from R&B and hip-hop struggle to get urban hits with urban sounding songs because they also make pop music. The only artist I have ever seen who can still get big pop and urban hits is Drake.

Urban:
DOJA CAT You Right f/The Weeknd +662 spins 46 stations
Will chart probably tomorrow, seems like Urban is getting their act together, because basically ignoring her first album(Streets and Like That are as urban as it gets) is only radio jocks fault, the way they limit themselves playing mostly Brown-Babys-Lilys-Drakes is pathetic. I see no Doja fault as her last album was one of the hottest URBAN album recent years.

The only artist I have ever seen who can still get big pop and urban hits is Drake. True true. I also think her actual voice “sounds” pop. Unlike, pretty much any other mainstream rapper, there’s no urgency in her voice, even on her Urban leaning songs. She literally sounds like she’s from the California suburbs, cause she is.
