Wow, Circles hit #1 again after fifteen months! That song's longevity is truly astound- Hold on, my sources are telling me that it's actually a song called "Save Your Tears" that hit #1. Eh, doesn't change it, it's basically just Circles again. I said that the other day when SYT came on. It’s a dull version of Circles. I mean, I like the song (quite a lot, actually), but it is more than a little bit like Circles.

Levitating, Kiss Me More, Astronaut's In The Ocean Only songs in the top 10 that have not yet been to #1 With the remaining 7 songs in the Top 10, is this the most a Top 10 has been filled with songs that've already hit number one?

Im not mad, Ariana getting a no. 1 credit, because she's the main reason to push the song to the top. Without her, SYT gonna stall inside top 3. Just like Britney got her 5th no. 1 with S&M after S&M stalled insids top 3. But as of now, imo most of Ariana's Hot 100 no. 1s seem like weaker hits (destined to be forgotten), except TUN and 7 Rings, compared to her remembered/stronger non no. 1s, like Problems, Break Free, NTLTC, GIAW, BUWYGAB. I wonder, is there any other artists with >5 no. 1s, and most of the no. 1s seem weaker than other non no. 1s? Of course the answer is very subjective I guess Taylor Swift comes to mind. most of her No. 1 singles, her 4 most-recent to be precise ("willow," "cardigan," "look what you made me do," "bad blood"), have underperformed or faded away quickly compared to some of her juggernaut hits that never made it to the top of the chart like "Love Story," "You Belong with Me," and "I Knew You Were Trouble." 3 of the 4 songs I mentioned fell below the Top 50 before their 20 weeks was up on the Hot 100. As for "Bad Blood," it was at #46 20 weeks after the week the remix took it to #1. On the flip side, "You Belong with Me" is her second-biggest hit on the Hot 100, "Love Story" fourth, and "I Knew You Were Trouble" fifth. (#1 is "Shake It Off" and #3 is "Blank Space.") For Ariana, iirc "positions" is now her 3rd biggest hit on the Hot 100 behind "tun" and "7 rings," so I'd say she's 50/50 so far. it doesn't surprise me that her 3 solo number-ones are the ones that are remembered: the other three don't appear on her albums, and "Stuck with U" doesn't appear on any album, so the Ariana association is considerably weaker. We shall see how this new remix holds up, though. Yeah i guess Bad Blood is quite forgotten. WANEGBT is also a bit forgotten. So practically among her no. 1s, only SIO and Black Space are strong. I love the Bad Blood remix by the way It was an event during its release week.

Britney Spears comes to mind. Most of her #1s except “Baby One More Time” and “Womanizer” are pretty weak and she has more iconic songs in her catalog like “Toxic” and “Oops” that never hit #1. Yeah but those didn't hit #1 due to chart rules and other factors, including a lack of commercial release. Ariana's songs legitimately missed #1. True about Britney. 3, HIAM and S&M remix are forgotten. But she has only 5 no. 1s, he he. I need an example for artists with >5 no. 1s.

Odds on SYT falling below BL before BL disappears during Xmas season?
One-week feature boosts are another tool to promote/break through clutter. Many times they aren't added to the proper albums. Even on streaming, they get dropped in the singles section. BTW - I'd love to see the streaming numbers of S&M v. S&M ft. Britney.

BTW - I'd love to see the streaming numbers of S&M v. S&M ft. Britney. Spotify has 408 million for the original versus about 26 million for the one with Spears.

but, Ariana is the main reason why SWU, ROM and SYT hit #1. It's not like she's Lil Wayne on "I'm The One", or M.I.A. on "Franchise". I think "main" reason is a stretch, particularly for "SYT" since it was already a top 5 hit. It was doing much better as a solo third fourth single than Ariana's own third single "pov." I get that you really dislike Ariana, but be more realistic. We're still waiting for the pov video, and Ariana doesn't even promote this era.

While I wouldn't consider it a beloved song outside of the realm of Soccermomlandia, it is certainly a potential future hit and it did just hit the top 20.

I'm sorry but the SYT = Circles discourse needs to die. Newsflash - some songs have the same key/tempo. If we can't handle that, music is gonna sue itself into nonexistence within the decade.

The song was bought by 18,000 people or so and was clicked on by enough people this week because they were curious about the song. I can click on a song by mistake and it counts as a stream? Again there is a difference. Yeah I may be curious about a song but HATE it. lol. BUT it counts towards the charts. Back in the day you had to put effort into things and that's why the charts seemed different. It just feels different for many that Ariana's version of the song is the biggest song of the week. Did radio even play the remix? I know it's all about "consumption" now. But people don't care about music as much anymore. Keep consuming but you probably won't remember many songs after 10 years. On a sidenote, I can't wait to hear Ari sing "Save Your Tears" in concert! Being her hit I bet she would include it it in her set list.. I'm confused by this tweet. Are you simply mad that passive listening is a bigger factor now because of YouTube and streaming because if that's so: 1. For better or for worse, technology has advanced to the point we can't go back to when the "charts were different", and trying to take out these new platforms would make the charts even more innaccurate than they already are. 2. Whether you hate a song once you listen to it does not mean it shouldn't count. There are tons of hit songs that people hate, that doesn't negate some of the streams or sales they acquired. 3. SYT didn't go to number one by people simply "clicking the song out of curiosity". It went to number one on sales but it was also #2 on streaming. The remix is still in the Top 20 on Spotify so there is an audience that loves the remix. 4. The charts have always been about consumption - and usually just the platforms Billboard will allow. You want truly bulls**t gatekeeping? Go back to the late-90s/early-00s when radio hits like Don't Speak, Torn, or Iris, as well as a bunch of nu-metal songs weren't bigger hits because of how the charts factored in sales and airplay, but also as to what was considered a single. I had a few drinks last night and raged on for no reason. Basically, Good for The Weekend but I will never think of "Save Your Tears" as an Ari and Weekend collab I guess..... lol. Sorry..
