Looking forward to this. I hope it's another bop like Shape of You. Commercially, i don't know what to expect. I don't think he'll reach the heights of Multiply or Divide, but i do think he'll do decently if the song is good.

Ewww NOT like Shape of You, that song hasn't aged well (in my books), and we already got part 2 which is I Don't Care

Looking forward to what he's planning to offer this era. The more outlandish look seems to suggest it will be an uptempo. Hopefully a more rap-driven tune like "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" or "Antisocial" π€

He has to give something original, otherwise not interested.

I'm sure his lead single will be safe and radio candy considering how Afterglow faired even if it was just "a Christmas present."

I'm way more positive on Ed Sheeran than most of you so... I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic.

Or bad radio friendly like Shape of You, Perfect, or (god forbid) I Don't Care? I'm not super optimistic but I'm hoping to be surprised.

Ki. Like that matters to radio. That's fair. I always say "radio friendly" is a neutral term. Some people use it purely as negative descriptor but plenty of all time bops have also been pretty safe. Fingers crossed he swerves on us and gives us another Castle on the Hill. Tbh I'm kind of intrigued by the pictures.

I really like Afterglow, but that flopped so not having high hopes... It's not a flop though, it wasn't a single yet it reached #2 in UK and top 10 in Australia and has 180m streams on Spotify.

He is definitely in decline, so this single has to be special, because he has used basically all his fat of past success.

What did he use? Afterglow is the only single he released post-Divide singles and it wasn't promoted as a single. His lead single will be the indicator of whether he'll have a successful era or not.

Honestly, the shots from the video have me very intrigued. I don't think we're getting generic radio fodder Ed for this. I'm getting this feeling that he's about to drop something closer to Bloodstream or Take Me Back to London, which I am 1000% here for. Afterglow is the only single he released post-Divide singles I Don't Care, Beautiful People, South of the Border all found dead in a ditch.

Yes! That's what I'm hoping for too. I really want Ed to return to the good graces of music fans. Despite some very questionable songs, "No. 6 Collaborations Project" had its fair share of gems, and I know he's still capable of making great music. "Afterglow" was such a charming tune, and I hope its underperformance in the US doesn't change his plans of going back to his roots.

I think this is a coincidence. Anyway, there's a 6/25 date written at the bottom of the map, which it seems to be the album's release date if it's considered that this (the single) is most likely to be out next week.
