this may be the fastest i've put the summary together in recent memory lmao
This week we say goodbye to "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles. It spent 1 week at #1 and 46 weeks on the chart.
Nelly and Florida-Georgia Line have this week's only debut with "Lil Bit" at #39.
Two songs tie for our fastest rise, both up 4 spots. Justin Bieber's "Anyone" climbs up to #15 and Elle King and Miranda Lambert's "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" continues up to #34.
Similarly, we have a tie for our biggest fall this week, both songs down 5 spots. "Lonely" by Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco at #26 and "Someone To You" by BANNERS at #19.
Our top 3 remains the same as last week with "drivers license" by Olivia Rodrigo holding #1 for a 5th week!!

The charts of the last few weeks have been, uh, slow. Four weeks in a row with just one debut, or something like that....
EDIT: Ok, so the 4/17 chart had two debuts. But all the other April charts had just one. That makes six in five weeks.
When was the last five week period with so few debuts? I realize this is Hot AC, and so I shouldn't expect much movement in general. But good gosh, this year has been glacier-like.
Mediabase data backs this up - we're averaging 2.18 debuts per week so far in 2021. The last full year to be below that was 2008, with 2.12. By the way, the most was 2017, with 2.69 per week.
By comparison, CHR is averaging 2.53 (which would be a record low for that format, just behind the 2.54 for 1998), Alternative 3.00 (the most since 1991, when I only measured 20 spots!), and AAA 3.12 (the most since I started tracking this format in 2009).
Conclusion: AAA and Alt have suddenly become more robust, while the opposite has happened with CHR and HAC.

Conclusion: AAA and Alt have suddenly become more robust, while the opposite has happened with CHR and HAC. As AT40 does not apply Mediabase's Recurrent rule (Songs below No. 10 are removed from the chart after 20 weeks provided they have peaked in the Top 10. If a song has not peaked in the Top 10, it must be down in spins for two consecutive weeks and have been on the chart over 20 weeks), number of debuts will eventually be less than Mediabase Published Chart. Due to Covid outbreak, many artists cancelled or postponed the live tour, and eventually did not release new album, which also reduced release of singles. As more and more artists now plan to release of new albums, we may have more singles to be offered to the radio stations. Tight chart or traffic jam of many moving-up songs may also slow down the chart movement, though. Let's see what will happen. As many artists have been concentrating on writing songs, we will expect to have many good songs debuting the chart.

looking at how someone to you got 32 weeks on this week with only a #13 peak i'm now wondering what the most weeks on the chart for a song that peaked below #10 is
i know khalid and normani's love lies got 32 weeks in 2019 with only a #17 peak but nothing really rings a bell beyond that.
