Although probably very subjective, but these 5 Mariah's Hot 100 no. 1s are often considered forgotten/weak, by non fans or even fans. Which one is/are your favorite?
- 2 were from her debut album in 1991. Mariah herself stated that she disliked these 2 particular no. 1s, either because of the cringey music video or the song theme.
- 1 became her 11th consecutive year, hitting no. 1s, 1990 until 2000, which is still a unbroken record. Most people consider the Make It Last remix version is far stronger, which is I actually disagree! - 1 was the one tying Elvis's 17 no. 1s record, considered as a carbon copy of a bigger hit from similar era, We Belong Together, which is I actually disagree!
- 1 was the one surpassing Elvis's record, as the most no. 1s for a solo artis. As well her last Non-Xmas no. 1 to date, and among her last great music video. but often considered hitting no. 1 due to hype only. Mariah herself stated this song was among her favorites.

"Touch My Body," which is my most played Mariah song and video. Love it to pieces and is one of my favorites.

In my opiniom, the only one i dont really like is Someday, while i like the other 4, especially DFAU. Someday is probably too old school/ jackswing type for me.
IDWC is a bit monotonous but it works because her strong belting vocals, especially on the final chorus.
TGIFY original is so underrated, I'm in the minority who prefer the original to the Make It Last remix. I really hope someday Mariah performs the original again. Not the remix. Not the acapella version
DFAU, what can I say, among my most fave Mariah's song ever, miles better than We Belong Together which is okay, and a bit overrated. On this song, you get low notes, high belted notes, long notes, whistle notes, everything.
TMB, it's a grower, fun song. I used to dislike it back in 2008, but now i really enjoy it as a true masterpiece. I can understand though many people consider it ver weak, compared to her 90s/early 2000s effort

The βI Donβt Wanna Cryβ slander!! π’ I wouldnβt consider it forgotten or weak, but maybe Iβm heavily biased. Itβs definitely my favourite from the list.
The original TGIFY is the most weak in my opinion. I love the Make It Last remix, but I also enjoy the Celebration remix - it gives the original a bit of life.

I Don't Wanna Cry is by far my fave from that list. It's one of my fave Mariah songs since childhood. I wouldn't consider it weak at all.
My ranking: I Don't Wanna Cry

I have always preferred "Don't Forget About Us" to WBT. Although, I do think WBT is lyrically stronger. "I Don't Wanna Cry" and "Don't Forget About Us are among my favorite MC songs.

It's Someday for me. I wanted to love IDWC but it's too similar to LTT and LTT is one of my all time faves.

Is "Touch My Body" forgotten? I guess I'm thinking of its pop culture impact with "Into You," Madonna praising it, and Aretha covering it.
Anyway my favorite of these is "Someday," but I like them all.

I wanted to love IDWC but it's too similar to LTT and LTT is one of my all time faves. How are they too similar? Well, to me they're kinda the same type of pop-ish power ballade. I understand that VOL is also a power ballade but it had a different "swagger" or different "flavor" than the other two. I just happened to gravitate more towards LTT and VOL than IDWC. I'm not saying I don't love IDWC, I just don't love it AS MUCH as the others. Regardless, Vanishing kills both of them so.....

"Someday" is among my top 3 songs from her debut, and my favorite uptempo from the project. Sorry, Mariah - I love the production on the album version (the kickass guitar solo π₯). She sounds amazing throughout and the lyrics are confident and fun. It's my pick for favorite forgotten #1.
- "I Don't Wanna Cry" sounds beautiful, and it's a great showcase of Mariah's impressive lower range, but it does end up being overshadowed by stronger songs in her catalogue. Definitely an underrated cut, though.
- "Thank God I Found You" is another highly underrated tune in its original version. The way it closes "Rainbow" after the poignant "Petals" was so fitting, and it ends the album on a hopeful note, despite being rather bittersweet in hindsight.
- "Don't Forget About Us", despite not being as powerful and immaculate as "We Belong Together", is still a delightful slice of 2000s R&B featuring a killer vocal performance and relatable lyrics. I can see why it ended up being forgotten in the long-term, but it's a gem.
- As for "Touch My Body", it is actually my least favorite of her #1 hits by far, though I agree with jenglisbe that it feels more remembered in comparison. From my experience, it's actually the first Mariah song I remember hearing, and the melodies are very distinct for anyone who lived through the late 2000s. It's Ariana Grande's favorite Mariah song, and indeed, has also been praised by Madonna and covered by Aretha Franklin.

The melody of Don't Forget About Us is just so damn catchy for me. I'm gonna go with that one. It's also the one I listen to the most of these choices.

I love these five records but my favourites are "I Don't Wanna Cry" and "Someday." I don't mind that the guitar on "Someday" might feel a bit dated to some. The one I listen to the least is the album version of "Thank God I Found You," I usually go for the Stargate Radio Edit.

Im not surprised the underrated TGIFY gets the least loves. Forever, most people will always consider it forgotten/weak. And the Make It Last remix gets the bigger praises. Imagine it didnt top Hot 100, maybe nobody would remember it at all. Hopefully, in the future Mariah gonna perform the original version, and maybe it could be a cult classic!

I personally would've replaced Touch My Body with My All.
