I've decided adds don't mean much. I go through this watching so many Mariah songs; so many adds, but then the spins don't show it.

Station adds have never meant much in terms of actual spins, especially for veteran acts or new artists trying to break through. They're a marketing tool where the label gets the station to commit to giving the song a spin (which often happens in the overnight, if at all), as a way for them to claim "MOST ADDED!" or "ADDED AT (station/city)!" in the promotional materials.
This is one of the reasons why a song will get a decent AI bump one day (from a major-market trial spin or two) and then it goes right back down the next day.

Yeah but the song has to be played at least 7 times by the station in order for the add to be reported. 7 spins are not trial spins at R&B radio, considering these stations play recurrent and Gold records on the regular rotation and have little room for new releases. |
