^Plus the vinyl is also available for purchase in stores like Target. A #8 at iTunes is equivalent to selling around 3k in a week. Vinyl store sales would definitely surpass iTunes sales this week given how long people had to wait for it since it was released to become available in vinyl.

^I think it had been ranked higher earlier in the week? Nonetheless, yes, that's not going to be a major factor, though a digital gain is something, to go along with everything else. :)

Taylor is selling a digital download on her webstore with another remix of Willow. It seems that she wants to get that #1.

I think this is the one time where she actually did it for the fans? It's far too much of a difference between SOUR and evermore for a throaway remix to give Tay the edge.

It's far too much of a difference between SOUR and evermore for a throaway remix to give Tay the edge. she put up 4 "digitally autographed" versions of the full album that include the remix up on her web store, for $4.99 each. I'm disappointed in Swift right now. evermore does not deserve to be the #1 album of the week at all, so I hope this isn't enough to get it there. but if the earlier projections are accurate, less than 9k purchases (that include all 4 new covers) are needed for her to take it home.

Taylor is really shameless for releasing signed digital albums for $4.99, but I also can't help but admire the flex of possibly sending her most forgotten album back to #1 against very strong competition.

Not Taylor trying to steal the #1 from her biggest fan... Can't wait to see her social media post acting fake surprised if/when evermore goes back to #1.

I've always found it hilarious how she manages to mask these blatant desperate attempts at securing better chart positions as moments for fans. It's how she manages to engage the Swifties. She makes everything feel as personal as possible (remember when she sold the physical edition of Lover bundled with some old diaries?). The clues, the scavenger hunts, everything feels personal or catered to the most rabid fans, yet ultimately it's also just a way to get them to engage and buy the music. It's been a great marketing tool for her for over a decade.

^^That would give Olivia more material for her next album.

She definitely set that blueprint up for having her fans be entirely invested in supporting her stuff and Olivia would be smart to follow it as well because it definitely works.

It's been a great marketing tool for her for over a decade. She may also be genuinely invested in the fan aspect though. In some ways, she operates like a smaller touring/indie artist would where they are more able to engage and interact with fans merely because they’re much smaller so they don’t have as many fans to interact with. But being a much bigger artist, she’s not able to have as intimate a relationship as they do. I’m sure there’s a promotional aspect to it too since she’s very business-minded but I get the impression that many view her fan engagement as soulless and manipulative rather than authentic.

Yup. I admire the hustle and the dedication, even if the end result here (taking down Olivia) would suck imo. But you know, it's a business, if she manages to move more units than SOUR, then as usual, it's a testament to how big she is, even with what's probably the closest thing she's gotten to a "flop" album.

I love Taylor so much and certainly won't be upset if she gets #1, but I do feel bad that Olivia's stellar performance for album and current single are getting bulldozed (potentially) by BTS and Taylor's rabid fanbases. Also I can't help but wonder how Olivia feels about all this. She's a Taylor stan so presumably loves when Taylor succeeds but now she might be #2 because of it...

Ending the promotion at midnight strongly suggests this is a chart play. If it's a purely fan-centric gesture, why choose such a specific cutoff? In terms of the projections, there's always the chance of them underestimating D2C performance. So maybe the race is closer than Hits predicted?

I think had the song + album both peaked at #2 this would be a more interesting question, but I doubt olivia would have hard feelings about not being #1 another week. she’s THE artist of the year essentially. any additional weeks at the top would be the cherry on top.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=326713&title=YOUR-TOP-20:-A-SWIFT-MOVE-CHALLENGES-SOUR-(UPDATE)Wednesday, June 2, 2021 YOUR TOP 20: A SWIFT MOVE CHALLENGES SOUR (UPDATE)It's now a battle for #1 on Friday's HITS Top 50. Taylor Swift has added four “digitally signed” albums to her website and presented three new covers of evermore (Republic). Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR (Geffen) is still contending for a second week at #1 as her impressive streams remained strong through the holiday weekend. Swift’s evermore (Republic)—as well as Juice WRLD’s Goodbye & Good Riddance (Grade A/Interscope)—were already soaring thanks to the vinyl and anniversary releases, respectively.

Imagine Taylor's *least successful* release, an album with one single and almost no promotion blowing past 1 million SPS, when even top streaming artists would love to have these figures so effortlessly. The steadiness of her success and longevity in this industry is unparalleled these days tbh. Ironically enough that one single from evermore did better than anything from folklore

Also I can't help but wonder how Olivia feels about all this. She's a Taylor stan so presumably loves when Taylor succeeds but now she might be #2 because of it... And there was one prize I'd cheat to win... lol I’m sure Olivia will have a few more weeks at #1 given the success of her singles and streaming power. I’m all for Taylor promoting evermore and giving it a final push. Crazy that it may have opened with 500k+ had the vinyls and albums been available in December. In response to other posters saying she couldn’t delay the shipments, people who are “waiting” for their vinyls or signed albums have been listening to the album since December so another week or two wouldn’t have been a crime... I ordered both and I’d be happy to wait if it meant securing another week at #1. Bought the Digitally Signed version now to give this a chance at #1. The 90’s remix is true to form and one of my fave remixes she released actually.

in b4 that bts stan says the Swifties are also gaming the chart and Pulse is racist by not calling them out while dragging that "Butter" song.
I'm pre-emptively annoyed.

I have a mostly neutral opinion on these kind of chart tactics as long as it's not ridiculous things like selling things unrelated to music with it to boost sales, but I find it odd how other artists are would get criticized for this chart gaming, labeled as "desperate" and such, and Taylor gets a pass.
