Who is the It girl of Pop in 2021? Olivia Rodrigo has had a great year so far and so has Dua Lipa. Any others?

Olivia Rodrigo probably takes the crown, especially with the sustained success of "SOUR" and its singles so far.
Dua Lipa's "Levitating" is having a fantastic run, and "Future Nostalgia" managed to reach a new peak one year after release, performing much better than it did in 2020. However, I don't feel she's at the centre of music discussion as much as last year, especially given the lukewarm reception to "We're Good".
Finally, if I were to add a suggestion of my own, I'd bet on Doja Cat reaching further heights in 2021. From "Streets" getting a viral moment to "Kiss Me More" debuting in the top 10 and holding very steady since, it seems to me "Planet Her" is going to be a great era for her, potentially consolidating her place in the mainstream.

Definitely Olivia. The unusually steady streaming hold for the whole album + good 4 u guaranteed to keep her at the top of the charts through the whole summer pretty much guarantees she will hold on to this status for the rest of the year.
2021 is more like a victory lap for Dua (akin to Kelly Clarkson being 2005 It Girl and carrying that success well into the next year, but Nelly Furtado and Fergie being the actual new It Girls of 2006). Dua does have a major point in her column in that Levitating will most likely be the YE #1, and the run it took to get there is pretty historic from a chart-watching perspective. Dua is the queen of longevity.
If the building Hot 100 and Billboard 200 year-end charts are any indication, Ariana takes the 2021 bronze. She's diminished by the lack of excitement and buzz, but her year feels quieter than it actually is on paper.

She's diminished by the lack of excitement and buzz, but her year feels quieter than it actually is on paper. Ariana's been the "It Girl" of pop at times before, especially for about a year in 2018-19. So maybe she doesn't need so much buzz, and in fact seems to be in kind of a sweet spot: still racking up the hits without the sort of overexposure that could spark a backlash.

Ariana relies on airplay more than others I'd say - Positions and 34+35 were long lasting Hot 100 hits because of huge airplay numbers and POV is following that pattern.
Doja Cat will live and die whether she gets hits or not. Her album is not a sure-fire smash. Hot Pink had Say So, Streets, Juicy and Like That on it and didn't go higher than #9 on album chart. Planet Her will open way better but cannot see it spending several weeks in top ten without new hits (KMM is also the last track on the album).

Olivia Rodrigo came out of nowhere and is wrecking the charts on a global scale so it's hands down her
Dua is having another good year and Doja seems to be as well so those would be the two to round out the top 3.
I'd say Ariana but this bitch won't do a damn live performances for anything on her album and pov has zero presence still so yeah.

"Up" wasn't as big a moment as "WAP", but it had a pretty strong performance, and I'm sure she's planning something great for the summer as well.

I'm sorry, what? So by saying "obviously," then you agree Olivia is the "it girl" of the year, but you're trying to argue with others because there are other women who are also successful that they're not mentioning?
Leona, you asked for the it girl. There is only one real clear answer here and it's insanely obvious who it is. You even agree that Olivia is "obviously" it. You literally just said that in the post above. No one is listing anyone else because you didn't ask for a list of successful women, you asked for the "it girl." You received that. You agreed with it. Why are you mad? Why are you arguing? Who gave you the billboardfan audacity?

Olivia is the obvious choice but I would also throw in Dua Lipa as well, since she has the biggest hit of the year

And you want the answer: it's Olivia. She is right now but there's 6 months left in 2021. - set Spotify records with her debut single, garnering the most single-day streams for a non-holiday song and had the biggest first-week for a song on Spotify and Amazon Music
- set Spotify records with her debut album, the global Spotify record for the biggest opening week for an album by a female artist and was critically acclaimed by a lot of publications and critics- SOUR is still going strong btw as it still managed to get 90M streams on it's THIRD week - managed to get 2 singles two debut at number one within the span of 5 months, with neither needing memes on TikTok to get popular and with drivers license being number one for 8 uninterrupted weeks - speaking of which, she was also the youngest artist to debut at the top- already performed at SNL - also has all three of her singles in the Top 50 on Radio what more do you need? Even if Doja's album manages to be successful (which I expect it will be), the impact Olivia has already set puts her far in the lead for Artist of the Year

Olivia pretty much is the It girl for the first 6 months of 2021, but things could change if Adele, Rihanna or some other big named female singer releases a new album.
