I didn't even know she had an album out, LOL. Sale El Sol was the last album I heard from her, but I will pick this up. Ah, reviews are great! 74 on Metacritic!
Edit: I forgot all about her self-titled, so I guess it's just her last album I skipped.

Are there yet any sales predictions?? After how massive worldwide her singles have been in the last couple of years, I thought the opening of this album was going to be big. I was surprised when Hits Daily Double apparently didn't even mention her album in their sales predictions for the new albums that just came out Friday with hers. I decided to take a look at Spotify charts and basically there are no Shakira songs ranked! Not even Puntería! As a Latin American sample I checked Perú chart and not even there!! I was really expecting huge streaming of all the new tracks in the album at least in Latin American countries. Am I missing something?? Marketing seemed to be going well. Was it an error to wait until album release for the new single?! Her streaming numbers for the new songs are lower than expected. It could be due to various factors. 1) She did release a lot of singles before the album release. "Punteria" would be the 8th single from the album (if we count those other singles). People were not excited because they just got a bunch of Shakira singles. They saw the album as a collection of singles with a few new songs. 2) Maybe releasing regional Mexican songs was a bad idea. That genre is very nichey. She was getting mainstream attention with Session 53 and then she released "El Jefe". After "Punteria" she released "(Entre Parentesis)." For some reason her label feels this genre suits Shakira well. I feel it ruins her mainstream appeal. This was the moment for her to release some English songs that fit in well with the current music scene, not regional Mexican songs. The album had zero English songs. I love the songs on the new album (minus the regional Mexican songs), but I'm not sure it was the right direction for her right now. The streaming numbers are showing that people felt the album was uneventful for Shakira. - After recent huge album numbers from Karol G and Bad Bunny and her own numbers from singles in the last two years, I am guessing her team was expecting a bigger first week... :( They must be very disappointed. Wonder how world numbers are looking. - I have to say I like the 8 new songs EVEN the Regional Mexican which has always also been a genre I REALLY dislike, all the banda, corrido, norteño stuff, I can't stand it. Have always found the music and lyrics so simplistic and repetitive. I didn't like El Jefe either, but then (Entre Parentesis) grabbed me predominantly for the lyrics. It's not that I love the song, but I can tolerate it. I was surprised! - Do you think Shakira at this point can get pressure to do something she doesn't want to and twice?? I'm not sure. I guess it was her idea and the label's together to jump on the bandwagon of the Peso Pluma success thing. Paulina y Thalia did it right away also although they had explored it in the past, but these latest ones felt very much connected to the Peso Pluma thing to me. - I think even an English version of one of the songs would've helped. Again, I think she really thought in Spanish was going to be huge anyway like with Karol G and Bad Bunny - Did Puntería even chart this week?? The power of her and Cardi didn't manage a Hot 100 apparently? - I still think 8 NEW songs was a good number to attract people, but I guess I was wrong.

This album is fantastic! I'm glad I decided to pick it up. I had never heard any of the songs except for the one with Burp Music so I pretty much got a whole new listening experience. I'm just grateful that, even though there are dance songs on here, Will I Ain't is nowhere to be found because that has been a sticking point for me lately with her songs or the ones I have come across in the last couple years. Anyway:
1. Entre Paréntesis - I saw Grupo Fruntero with Bad Bunny at Coachella last night. I had never heard of them before, but this style of music is really nice and classic Mexican style and it just feels good. 2. El Jefe - Let's GOOOOOOOO! Makes me want to learn traditional dance. 3. Monotonía - LOOOOVE this. 4. Cómo Dónde y Cuándo - I love rock Shakira coming back, so this is great. Sounds a little too compressed, but that could be filters I have on Apple Music. Still love it. 5. Última - Beautiful. Shakira is such an expressive singer and I love her vulnerable songs. 6. Tiempo Sin Verte - Very 80s. I dig it. 7. La Fuerte - A little been there done that stylistically, but it's a proper banger. 8. Nassau - So tropical and breezy. Reminds me a little of Passionfruit by Drake. 9. Bizzarap Vol 53. - This title will never cease to annoy me, but such a banger. 10. Te Felicito - Reggaeton banger 11. TQG - Another reggaeton banger 12. Punteria - Lightweight, but fun. 13. Copa Vacia - It's fine, but we already had superior Reggaeton songs. 14. Cohete - It's OK 15. Acróstico (Milan y Sasha) - Cute, but I tend not to like kids singing on songs. At least they sound good though!
16. Bizzarap Vol 53 Tiesto Remix - Not needed.

Streaming globally has not been great, and sales have been low. I can't even find sales figures post anywhere from her big latin markets (Spain, Argentina, Mexico), even Colombia they're not promoting her sales numbers, and there would typically be a press release because she was always blowing everybody out of the water with her sales there with a new album. Punteria debuted at 72 and will likely fall out next week. The promo schedule for this project has just been really bizarre. One late night show performance of a song in Spanish, a times square pop up concert (follow up by a bullshit press release that there were 40k people there...who counted, Donald Trump?), some English language interviews where she barely talks about the album.

I expected the album to do better honestly, but since it's a bunch of singles that already peaked ages ago, and the "lead", "Puntería" is one of her weakest most forgettable songs ever... I get it. She just didn't bring the fire that carried her last year.

Maybe now that she's hungry for her career again, she will regroup for the next record in terms of rollout and promotion.
At least she'll likely get a Gold album because of Side B being all the previous standalone singles.

Lock her in a writing camp for two weeks and get her to craft 10 songs or so that actually relate to each other like an album should. I'll even allow her to fill the rest of the album with a handful of reggaeton singles.

The album has been a bit of a non-event but rather than starting a new era, I feel like it's a good bookend to the current one. I sort of view everything from the superbowl as one era and in that sense it's been pretty amazing. We've had:
- Superbowl performance - Amazing MTV Vanguard performance - 2 massive hit singles - 1 viral single - 3 decent sized hits - Some actually good videos
I would love her to bounce back quickly with another album but I think the tour is going to put all of that on hold for a while.
This is pie in the sky thinking but ideally from the next Shakira era I want to see:
- Stop chasing hits. This doesn't work for older artists. Young people are well serviced with Latin females music: Kali Uchis, Rosalia, Karol G. Beyonce stopped chasing hits years ago and has garnered so much more respect by focusing on artistry. - Shakira needs to become Latina like Beyonce became black. Focus on some issues and have a voice that people respect. She could use a sound and visual like Lido Pimienta and I feel like people would be all over it. - Work with some "cool" producers. Beyonce, Rihanna and Taylor all took their careers to the next level by working with hipster producers. The Riton remix of Don't Wait Up is so good! Go work on a banger with him. I would also like Shakira to work with Jamie XX. I don't know why but I can just imagine Shakira on some weird banger like Kill Dem. - Write in English again! She's missing out on a massive part of her audience. Generally, people love Shakira and the response to her songs on Spotify and iTunes after the superbowl show that. - Stop taking a backseat in collaborations. I don't mind that Shakira collaborates so much now but on some of them, she sings less than half the song! Cohete is a great example. Nice little bop but Shakira doesn't sing for the last 1 min 20 secs.
But the best we can probably hope for is a World Cup reggaeton song

I hope she's not in any way shape or form involved with the World Cup if she wants to be taken seriously. Coming around every 4 years with a song about kicking a ball is played out as a gimmick.

I guess you are referring to the interview with Zake Lowe for Apple Music. I really like the guy and his interviews. He gets for sure the biggest stars. But his interview with Shakira although nice it left for me a lot to be desired. Yes, ok, talk about how she overcame her divorce and being a strong single mom, etc, but not the WHOLE thing focused on that!! With Shakira all that is overtalked about already! I was expecting something more focused on the music, the creation of the songs, the technical aspects, the writing, etc. Especially with her being an artist who writes her stuff and gets in the studio for the creation of the music.

I thought the same thing and was a little disappointed the only one of the eight new songs he talked about was "Última." Everything else musical he brought up were the ones that have been out for 1-2 years already!

- Shakira needs to become Latina like Beyonce became black. Not sure if you meant this to be as offensive as it is. Beyonce was born a Black woman and has never been anything less. She didn't "become" Black.

I don't understand what experiencing the show in a more intimate way means for an arena tour, but I guess that's confirmation there will a concert film at some point.
Detroit was her worst selling NA date on the last tour (85% sold), so I'm surprised they're going back there instead of another date in Florida or Texas. Charlotte has a sizeable Latino population, and as the only date in the South outside of Florida, I'm interested to see how those tickets sell without a mainstream crossover hit in a decade.

No news, just some thoughts.
1. I finally thought of a use of AI music I actually want - to finally get the English version of Donde Estan Los Ladrones?. There have been some leaks, so it would be a fun creative project, I think, to have AI Shakira sing the English versions of that album.
2. I figured out my personal rework of Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, removing some of the Side B tacked-on singles that IMHO don't fit.
Te Felicito Bzrp Music Session 53 (Maybe Acrostico for some sweetness) Copa Vacia Punteria La Fuerte Cohete (Entre Parentesis) Tiempo Sin Verte Como Donde y Cuando Nassau Ultima
