lol at all the songs that continue to fall at a very fast rate, while Blinding Lights continues to hold steady on all 3 metrics. Must every single post you make be about Blinding Lights? My goodness.

The only song in the top 50 to increase in streams is a cover of a Four Seasons song from 1967 by an Italian rock band and that’s amazing to me Between this and ILY, the past year or so has been great for Frankie Valli songs getting recognition on Tik Tok. Now let's hope that same crowd doesn't learn about some of the cheese he pumped out in the early-mid '70s like My Eyes Adored You...

I tried to get behind Good 4 u, but it got stale pretty fast, so I let go of that song. I’m just going to stream the heck out of Blinding Lights to get the record.

Sometimes I wonder if the people in the chart threads listen to anything besides what's on the charts jfc What does that kind of music have to do with the Hot 100? It will not chart. /s I wonder why The Off Season and CMIYGL both got rave reviews from social media but tanked incredibly hard. I know social media is becoming more and more separated from the feelings of the average person (specifically Twitter) but usually it's been a pretty reliable gauge for how well albums and songs will hold. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I think you have to look at it with a more holistic view, that is, in terms of how the artist performed on the charts throughout their career. Tyler never really had a big hit in the first place, not even a song that's been on the Hot 100 for 20 weeks. J Cole is a peculiar case because he does have actual genuinely popular songs, like No Role Modelz, Work Out, and Power Trip; but it just seems like at some point he transitioned from a hitmaker to a fan-powered artist in terms of commercial performance. Even with Cole, I think it's not that unusual when you consider how he's handled every release since 2014 FHD. He surprise drops the album, picks a radio single based on initial reaction, and that's kind of it for 'mainstream' promotion...his promo strategy is basically documentaries and touring. The Off-Season is on track to be platinum eligible by the end of the year which is his usual standard. His commercial status is really the same IMO because I don't think Cole has ever cared about individual hits; the ones he has are happy coincidences to be quite frank, or from his first two albums when he was still beholden to whatever the label required he do to promote. Cole moves like a guy who is still unsigned and releasing mixtapes when he needs to put food on the table, but he has a fanbase big enough to put him in everyone's face for a week or two and then very quietly carry him to a cert. So I think it's just hard to figure out how he should be measured in the grand scheme of things.

This is a bit of a stretch, I know he hadn’t released in a couple of months but nothing to warrant a big comeback. That's like calling Up Cardi B's "big comeback hit" because it dropped several months after WAP (which was the actual comeback hit). Drake scored 7 top 10 hits last year. He released mixtape that's still charting on the Billboard 200. Even in 2019, which was essentially an off year for him, he still appeared on some songs that charted on the Hot 100. You can't even call Laugh Now Cry Later (the only song he's released this decade that he's associated with his forthcoming album) his big comeback single because he was active all throughout the year before it eventually dropped lol. Also its worth noting that Drake has a second consecutive streak, as he never left the charts once since God’s Plan..

Also its worth noting that Drake has a second consecutive streak, as he never left the charts once since God’s Plan.. Exactly. In fact, I have a perfect breakdown of that. MOST CONSECUTIVE WEEKS CHARTING ON THE HOT 100*431 weeks – Drake (2009-2017) 326 weeks – Lil Wayne (2007-2013) 216 weeks – Rihanna (2009-2013) 207 weeks – Nicki Minaj (2010-2014) 198 weeks — Post Malone (2017-2020) **177 weeks — Drake (2018-present) 166 weeks — Future (2015-2018) 161 weeks — Chris Brown (2013-2016) 159 weeks — JAY-Z (1999-2002) 152 weeks — Nelly (2000-2003) *150 weeks — Justin Bieber (2015-2018) **150 weeks — Justin Bieber (2018-present) 141 weeks — Kenny Chesney (2001-2005) * — first consecutive run. ** — second consecutive run. Since May 23, 2009 when Drake first debuted on the Hot 100, there have been 631 chart weeks. He has charted for 608 of those weeks (the most of any artist). The only time he didn't have at least 1 song charting on the Hot 100 since May 23, 2009 till now was from August 26, 2017 — January 27, 2018, a period of 23 weeks.

I hope this all happens just for the meltdowns and Billboard's continued downward spiral into irrelevancy.

It's too bad, because upon first listening to Butter, I really kind of liked it and thought it could possibly take off on its own and become a 10 week #1/song of the summer-type hit without (or at least not as much of) the mass-buying. I was really hoping Army could just sit back and let it run its course, mostly because they wouldn't feel the need to manipulate, but sadly that wasn't to be.

The first time BTS saw any sort of long-lasting chart success was through mass-buying so trust that it's the only way they'll see any sort of sustained chart success moving forward.

This tweet just made me laugh like a mad bloke. I don't care for BTS or Olivia Rodrigo's music at all but I must admit that I admire how well-organized their fans are. I mean, "Butter" a 5-week No.1? Damn!
