Really good album and I first heard a few of these songs way back in 2015, when they were part of that RadioTraks survey. Gary had an interview with Music Row where he talked about how this was three separate projects over the past eight years. Basically, they had songs like “Till It Felt Like You”, “High as I’ve Ever Been” and “What I Can’t Talk About” back in that 2013-2015 timeframe…but that was when bro-country took the radio format by storm and they didn’t feel Gary fit the current state of the format, so they sat on a lot of his music. Gary said he thought “What I Can’t Talk About” would be his next big single but it never materialized. That sounds exactly why they decided on “Hangover Tonight” and “Do You Wish It Was Me?” as singles in 2015 and 2016 — because while I think they fit Gary, they were clearly more contemporary and in the case of “Hangover Tonight,” it fit that groovy, bluesy feel that was growing in popularity in 2015. It’s unfortunate that’s the route they felt like going because I think “Hangover Tonight” accelerated Gary’s decline at radio. I loved “Mess Me Up” but by 2017 it was way too late and that single didn’t stand a chance. They also re-recorded it. Anyway, as for this album, I really enjoy it but not as great as others like Smoke Rings in the Dark, Alright Guy and Tough All Over. ”Till It Felt Like You” and “What I Can’t Talk About” are the standouts for me. I also love “High as I’ve Ever Been”, “Slide,” “Unfiltered” and “The Hard Way.” I get why “Waste of a Whiskey Drink” was the lead single but that wouldn’t even crack my top 6-7 of this record.

“Slide” should’ve been the lead single. Some great tracks on here. You can tell what timeframe some of these songs were and weren’t in.
“Til It Felt Like You”, What I Can’t Talk About”, “Unfiltered”, “Little Glass of Wine”, and *especially* “The Hard Way” are all classic Gary.

Pure sales are dead and he doesn't have a radio hit in a long time so not much relevant in the mainstream, and none of other country releases on that day has charted on top 25 country. I would say it's a decent number actually.
