"Sometimes She Forgets" was released in August 1995 as the lead-off single from his compilation album, Greatest Hits: From the Beginning, and was a Top 10 hit later that year. The song was written by Steve Earle in 1979 who only finally got to record his own version of it for his 1995 album, Train a Comin'. This was a solid top 15 contender for its entire run where it even briefly found itself in the top 10 early on. That's thanks in part to an initial pair of top 15s from both myself and someguy as well as a near top 5 from Kanenrá:ke. The majority of the group in fact all placed this somewhere within their top 20 with (yet again!) .indulgecountry being the lone participant to not put this in their top 30 altogether.

Any guesses as to which two songs will miss the top 10?! Speaking of, I'll be unveiling the remaining songs over the course of the day tomorrow before wrapping things up later on in the evening.

My guesses as to the two to miss the top 10 would be "Where Corn Don't Grow" and "Help Me Hold On" (though those wouldn't be my two preferences).

Good Sunday morning, y'all! Before diving into the top 10 later on this afternoon, I wanted to first post another set of honorable mentions which includes a couple of duets as well as a song he recorded for a Walt Disney biopic. There are a few more songs I'd like to highlight as well, so expect one more of these later on in the day as we make our way down to the grand finale!

- Honorable Mentions - Highlighted below are the second set of songs that did not make the rankdown. Those include his cover of the pop standard "Only You (And You Alone)" which was recorded for his first hits compilation in 1995 and reached #51 on the country charts. Also included is his duet with Patty Loveless, "Out of Control Raging Fire", which they both recorded for her 2001 album, Mountain Soul. Another duet featured is "When Something is Wrong With My Baby" which he recorded with Patti LaBelle for the 1994 album, Rhythm, Country and Blues, which paired up R&B and country music artists on classic songs.
"Only You (And You Alone)" Released in 1995 from Greatest Hits: From the Beginning
"That's What Dreamers Do" from the Walt Disney biopic As Dreamers Do
"Out of Control Raging Fire" with Patty Loveless
"Slowing Down" from the major motion picture Forever My Girl
"When Something is Wrong with My Baby" w/ Patti LaBelle from Rhythm, Country and Blues

Alrighties, let's go ahead and unveil the next two songs! Both were top 10 contenders over the course of the rankdown and are only separated by three points. Also, the song exiting just before the top 10 only misses that mark by a mere two points.

"Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde" was released in January 2002 as the fourth and final single from his album Down the Road I Go and was his final top 10 hit. This too was a top 10 contender here as well with only five points separating it from that marker. All but two participants placed this outside of their bottom 20 altogether with four of those coming in the from of a top 10 ranking. In a bit of a change up from the previous set, this time .indulgecountry is the highest-ranking participant here as he placed it inside his top 3. bboat11 wasn't having it, though, as you have to go all the way down to the bottom 10 to find his ranking (and pretty dang close to a bottom 5 at that!).

"Where Corn Don't Grow" was first recorded by Waylon Jennings on his 1990 album, The Eagle, peaking at #67 on the country singles charts that year. Six years later, Tritt covered it on his 1996 album, The Restless Kind, which was subsequently released as the second single and was a Top 10 hit in early 1997. This was an early top 10 contender here as well with it picking up three of its five top 10 rankings from myself, gardyfan, and someguy. In the middle of its run, however, a lone non-top 30 ranking from Cody Wants Out... would send this to the back of the top 15. Just as quickly, though, it was given a boost from toomuchboy who placed this as his runners-up. In the end, this only missed the top 10 by a mere two points. This is the fifth and final single from the album The Restless Kind to exit and is the nest album to bow out.

Of the album tracks above, I'm sure some of you are already familiar with the title track, "The Restless Kind", as Trisha Yearwood also recorded it for her 1995 album, Thinkin' About You.

I'm here!!!!!!!!
Lol my #33 ranking for "Country Club" looks pretty bad now that the results are listed, but don't get the wrong impression! I do like it! It's just one of those songs that I felt was a pretty good debut, that was since overshadowed by how outstanding some of his work would be once his career got underway. It sounds pretty dated even compared to his other work from 1989.
I'm surprised to see "The Whiskey Ain't Working" do so much better than the other Marty Stuart songs. I can never remember the difference between any of them, so I figured once the first two left in relatively close proximity this one wouldn't be far behind. It is a good song though, so I'm fine with it.
"If I Lost You" was a pretty good discovery for me! I have heard about his fabled "trilogy" of videos, but could never for the life of me remember what the 3rd one was because it really wasn't a "hit" in the same way that "Anymore" and "Tell Me I Was Dreaming" were, lol.
"Can I Trust You With My Heart" is good once it gets going! The only thing I remember immediately about this one is that super dated and weird effect on the guitars in the intro 😂 But it is pretty good once it gets going!
"More Than You'll Ever Know" and "Drift Off To Dream" are ballads that I would like a lot more if he turned up the energy and made them more commanding! Lmao I'm talking about the echoey production and powerful belting of a song like "Help Me Hold On" or "Tell Me I Was Dreaming", or even just an over-the-top second-half build like what is given to "Anymore" would be nice. I have always just kinda felt like they were too soft and delicate. Still pretty good, of course! But they never leave the impression upon me that some of Travis' bigger ballads do.
"Modern Day Bonnie And Clyde".... I guess I just need to listen to this one more, because it has historically done nothing for me. It's the sort of late-career novelty song that I would expect to be universally panned. Not to mention the Bonnie and Clyde lovers-become-outlaws theme is just so specific that I get tired of it very quickly. And something like Toby Keith's "Bullets In The Gun" does the same thing with a much more memorable melody imo.
"Where Corn Don't Grow" is a great song, with a great "the grass ain't always greener"-type message that is told in a much less cliche or cheesy way than you would expect on paper. The chorus is quite memorable as well. Not one of my all-time faves by any means, but it was enough to earn a spot at the bottom of my top 10.

Overall this top 10 is basically exactly what I would have expected. There isn't anything here that "doesn't belong"! I feel like "Best of Intentions" was overshadowed by "It's A Great Day To Be Alive", so it fees like the least iconic song remaining, but it's still a fantastic song, so I'm happy to see it make it!
Here are my predictions:
10. Take It Easy 9. Foolish Pride 8. Here's A Quarter 7. Best Of Intentions 6. T-R-O-U-B-L-E 5. Help Me Hold On 4. It's A Great Day To Be Alive 3. I'm Gonna Be Somebody 2. Tell Me I Was Dreaming 1. Anymore

"Best of Intentions" was released in June 2000 as the first single from his album, Down the Road I Go which topped the country charts later the summer becoming his first Number One single since "Foolish Pride" in 1994, and the last Number One hit of his career. This was a consistent contender for the top 10 for much of its run as everyone placed this somewhere within their top 30. The bulk of those rankings actually came from within the top 15 which included a trio of top 10s with Cody Wants Out... placing it in his top 3.

Up next is our fifth and final tie of the rankdown! Both of these songs were well-liked overall as the majority of the rankings all came from within the top 15. The tie-breaker, however, goes to the song with the highest top 5 ranking.

"Best of Intentions" hit #1 the day of my sisters fire so that song has always been hard for me to enjoy. Same with the follow up single (it was playing when the fire happened...) Initially I was going to put those two songs as my bottom 2 but I really couldn't justify putting them there because they are great songs even if I go out of my way to avoid listening to them.

Lol well, I guess I should have taken my "least iconic in the top 10" sentiment and predicted it would be the first to go! Seriously, I had absolutely NO IDEA as a 7-year-old who was just getting into country radio that Travis had had anything even remotely resembling a hit other than "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" around this time period. I had heard of him, but I perceived him to be an artist who had stopped being relevant a few years prior, and had an unexpected huge success with IAGDTBA before fading into obscurity for good, "Find Out Who Your Friends Are"/"Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)"-style. Lo and behold, he was in the middle of three top 2 hits in a row at the time "Best Of Intentions" had always kinda blended in with his other ballads when I had heard it before on his hits albums, but revisiting it for this rankdown I realized how amazing it is! First of all, by being a bit more modern the production has held up a LOT better than many of his other ballads. But also, that explosive chorus is just so satisfying. It checks all my boxes of my favorite things about Travis Tritt as an artist. Glad it was able to hold onto the top 10!

"Foolish Pride" was released in March 1994 as the first single from his album Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof and peaked at Number One on the country singles charts in July 1994, becoming the fourth Number One hit of his career. As correctly predicted by bboat11, this is the second song to bow out in the top 10 which proved itself to be a solid contender for the majority of its run as everyone ranked this somewhere within their top 25. The bulk of those rankings, however, all come from the top 15! someguy loses a top 10 while both kw9461 and castleoblivion26 lose a top 5. As I mentioned above, this is tied in points with our next song which also garnered a pair of top 5s. The tie-breaker, though, goes to our next song which ended up picking up a top 4 ranking.

"Foolish Pride" has held up pretty well through the years! The lyrics are very important, and Travis sounds great. I can't help but feel for the couple, and it makes me want to never let pride get in the way of love (if I could ever find love, lmao).

"T-R-O-U-B-L-E" is of course one of the most iconic song titles of his career, and absolutely belonged in this top 10 even if it failed to make it there on the charts! I do like most everything that is left even more though, so I'm fine seeing it bow out now. Plus trying to type the song title multiple times in the last few weeks now makes me never want to encounter it ever again (I imagine our host feels that even more profoundly 😂 )
