"T-R-O-U-B-L-E" was first recorded by Elvis Presley in March 1975 and was released as a single through RCA Victor that was taken from his twenty-second studio album, Today. It was a Top 35 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as a Top 15 hit on the country charts peaking at #11. Travis Tritt would later go on to record the song and released it as the third single from his 1992 album of the same name. This is also the fifth and final single from that album to exit. Despite starting off near the back of the top 30, this managed a steady climb until it found itself in the top 10 for the first time near the middle-part of the rankdown. While it would briefly dip back outside of that, it found its way back into the fold as it would pick up one more top 5 ranking from .indulgecountry. Only two participants overall ranked this outside of their top 15 which is really quite impressive! Of those, both kw9461 and castleoblivion26 ranked this in their top 10 while my top 4 ranking is what propelled this one spot higher as it was the tie-breaker.

I've admittedly never really checked out the original version by Elvis, but here's the audio in case anyone wants to give it a spin!

- Honorable Mentions - This last set will be rather short as it includes just two songs I wanted to highlight for fun. The first is "Here's Your Sign" which saw Tritt partner up with Bill Engvall who rose to fame as a cast member on the The Jeff Foxworthy Show. He was then signed by Warner Bros. Records in 1996 and released the first in what would be a series of successful comedy albums based on his signature stage bit.
Finally, as a fan of Christmas music I wanted to make sure to highlight "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" as his version is one of my favorites.

"Help Me Hold On" was released in February 1990 as the second single from Tritt's debut album, Country Club, and went on to become his first number-one hit on the country charts. I initially went into the rankdown assuming that this would be a top 5 contender and much to my own surprise it wasn't. That could just be a testament to how favorable the majority of the remaining songs are viewed as all but one participant placed this one in their top 20. The majority of those in fact all came from within the top 10 with Cody Wants Out... putting this in his runners-up position. Unfortunately, both toomuchboy and bboat11 lose their top-ranking song who are the first to do so.

I have said plenty about “Help Me Hold On” through the years, so it being my #1 was pretty much never a question. This song is like crack to me 😂 The echoey early ‘90s production combined with the engaging melodic structure combined with Travis’ powerful vocals are like the perfect trifecta to make this one absolutely perfect to me ❤️ Of course I would have loved to see it hold on into the top 5, but we truly are in the presence of the greats by this point, so I’m not too disappointed. Glad to see toomuchboy helping me bring the taste!!!

Travis’ version of “Take It Easy” is so amazing! I vastly prefer it to the original, tbh. He perfectly captures the energy of this and makes it an enduring jam that frankly still sounds pretty fresh to this day!

"Take It Easy" was first released by the Eagles as their debut single in May of 1972 and was a Top 15 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Travis Tritt then recorded a version for the Eagles tribute album, Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles, which featured a variety of country music artists who were impacted by their music. The song was released as the albums first single in 1994 and peaked just outside of the Top 20 on the country charts. Unfortunately .indulgecountry becomes only the third participant to lose their #1 song and just before the top 5 at that. A handful of others would join him in the top 5 as well. Believe it or not and despite only three others ranking this outside of their top 10 altogether, this was never really a top 5 contender as it always seemed to be an arms length away from the top-tier songs. Something I learned while doing a bit of background research for the rankdown was just how instrumental Travis was in getting the Eagles to reunite. He was given quite a bit of latitude in regards to the music video and made a request for the original members of the band to make an appearance in it. Unbeknownst to him at the time, quite a few of the members were no longer on speaking terms and therefore it seemed like a stretch to think such a thing would ever happen. After making a couple of personal phone calls, however, both Don Henley and Glenn Frey agreed to appear in the video which came as a surprise to many. Not just two months after the filming of the video, the band agreed to a reunion which subsequently saw the release of a new album, Hell Freezes Over, as well a tour the following year. Anyways, it's a pretty fascinating story that's full of lots of interesting tidbits. Here is a small clip where Travis talks about the background of how all this came about:

Yeah, neither of these were top tier songs so glad I could help! 😘 I should note that this won't be the last time your "help" changed the course of the rankdown as you took a solid top 2 song and well...more on that tomorrow . For now, let's find out which three songs are leaving next! Well, we've arrived to the top 5 which means .indulgecountry's "help" all but sank what was otherwise the most consistent runner-up of the entire rankdown...any guesses as to which song that might be?!

"Tell Me I Was Dreaming" was released in April 1995 as the fourth and final single from the album Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof and was a Top 2 hit that summer. Filmed in my hometown of Austin, Texas, the music video proved to be both controversial and heartbreaking as it is the second in Tritt's video trilogy telling the story of Mac Singleton, a crippled U.S. Army veteran. The first video was for his 1991 hit "Anymore" and the third one for 1998's "If I Lost You" which exited just inside the top 20 of the rankdown. With only two participants placing this outside of their top 10, this proved to be the most consistent runner-up song of the rankdown as it remained well within the top 5 for its entire run. Cody Wants Out... becomes the next participant to lose their #1 song while a handful of others lose a top 5. The gut punch really came at the very end with .indulgecountry coming in with a bottom 5 ranking. That in turn pushed this all the way to the back of the top 5 where it had no chance to recover.

"Here's a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)" was released in May 1991 as the lead-off single to the album It's All About to Change and was a Top 2 hit on the country charts that summer. This was our earliest top contender of the rankdown as it picked all three of its #1 rankings back-to-back from myself, someguy, and Kanenrá:ke. It eventually slid to the back of the top 5 in the middle of the rankdown when the first of two non-top 20 rankings came its way and that of which was just enough to hold it back from the top 3 altogether. Like many of videos I saw growing up with on CMT, this song was my first introduction to Travis Tritt and I remember hearing it everywhere during that time. It's certainly one of his signature hits and one that you can still hear on the radio to this day. I was really hoping that this would come out in the top 3, though.

Travis’ version of “Take It Easy” is so amazing! I vastly prefer it to the original, tbh. He perfectly captures the energy of this and makes it an enduring jam that frankly still sounds pretty fresh to this day! SAME! I thought it would miss the top 10 completely because I know there's a sizable audience out there who thinks his cover is sacrilegious because they think The Eagles' rendition is superior, but I'm sorry I think Travis did the song best!

"It's a Great Day to Be Alive" was released in December 2000 as the second single from the album Down the Road I Go and was a Top 2 hit in early 2001 as well as the second-most played song of that year. This was a solid top 5 contender for its entire run and was even initially a runner-up early on. All but one participant ranked this outside of their top 15 with the bulk of those all comign from within the top 5. Of those, kw9461 loses his #1 song just before we reach the top 2.

Glad to see I was able to boost some of his vastly superior singles at the final stretch because a scenario where classics like "Great Day" and "Here's a Quarter" finish below that "Dreaming" song is not a world I wanna be in. 🥴
