On first listen, I really dug a lot of it. "I'm not a Woman, I'm a God" was a highlight and "Lilith" too. On first listen I think it's more memorable than a lot of MANIC.

"I'm not a woman, I'm a god" is easily the most memorable track, and an obvious pick for CHR. don't know how much damage it can do, but this album deserves to do well. definitely will be a highlight in Halsey's discography.

The cover alone was iconic but I'm glad the music matches it.
I hope there are no surprise releases to block this from #1 on BB200 like what MANIC endured when Eminem surprise released. Please Kanye keep delaying...

Not Halsey showing Billie and Olivia how to do rock properly on Easier Than Lying. Good god, this girl brought it.

Was there even a first single released to radio? no but yes. "I'm not a woman, I'm a god" is being promoted to pop radio now, immediately upon release. none of the songs were released before tonight, if that's what you meant, so this will be the first single.

First listen review of If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power.
1. The Tradition (6.5/10) | Weird piano melody. Reminds me of the dark switch in "Forever... (is a long time)". I rarely like an opening track and this is no exception. I feel like this is going to be one of my least favorites on the album.
2. Bells in Santa Fe (8/10) | Damn I LOVE a transition. This sounds amazing already. Oooh the "all of this is temporary" melody from the trailer. This would've been such a good intro. It actually makes sense but it does remind me of "Ashley" so maybe she wanted something a bit different.
3. Easier Than Lying (8.5/10) | Is this gonna be a seamless album? Sign me up! Finally the energy I was looking for!!! Bring it on Ashley! This song sounds like a chaotic version of a late '00s Disney bop so I'm pumped lol.
4. Lilith (7/10) | Switchin' it up, I see. Hello mrs. Mary J. Blige! I'm gonna need some more time with this. I love the part with the autotuned vocal.
5. Girl is a Gun (8/10) | Interesting instrumental. I can see this being a major grower. This kind of production is very in at the moment.
6. You asked for this (9/10) | This has been one of my most anticipated ones. Damn it sounds so good. Yesssss she didn't switch it up. Easy pick for my favorite so far. She sounds so cool with this shoegaze-ish production.
7. Darling (7.5/10) | What is this transition? We went from chaos to lullaby. Beautiful melodies. The "929" of the album.
8. 1121 (8.5/10) | This is definitely a highlight wow. Very interesting listen.
9. honey (9.5/10) | oh HELL yes. Give us this serve Ashley. I lost it. I'm gonna need more of this before the album ends. It's a less angry version of "forget me too" which is always a win.
10. Whispers (8/10) | Very haunting song. Great beat.
11. I am not a woman, I'm a god (10/10) | I played this song before the album and it's insane. Easily the most instant song on the album. Absolute banger.
12. The Lighthouse (8/10) | We didn't get enough distortion on this album. Let's appreciate it here.
13. Ya'aburnee (9/10) | I really like the melodies here. They work wonders for a closer. Definitely one of my favorite tracks.

Fell asleep early yesterday, so I gave this a spin on my morning run. Didn't pay much attention to the lyrics but boy, this is good. Really good. The tracks that stood up on first listen were:
The tradition Bells in Santa fe Easier than lying (!!!!!) Honey (!!!!!!) Whispers I'm not a woman, I'm a god
My favorites were the rockier stuff, but then again, I was running, so I needed the tempo. I'll give this a conscious listen later today, but I'm really happy with this one.

This album is pretty good. I've never listened to one of her albums before, but the rollout of this one had me intrigued. My favorites were The Tradition, Easier than Lying, honey, and I am not a woman I'm a god.

I can’t write thoughts yet because I haven’t been able to play the whole album. It has that “that was so fucking good, let’s play that song again…and again” energy.
I can’t believe the seamless nature of each song.

What an album. I love every song on it. The closer "Ya'aburnee" is fantastic. For those who don't know, the word "ya'aburnee" is Levantine Arabic for "Bury Me." It's often said by mothers to their children, meaning I hope you bury me first.

This album is so f**king cinematic and good. The cinematic feel, like all the songs could play at some movie scene, reminds me a bit of BADLANDS. I'm not sure it's radio ready for 3+ radio hits but I think if "I am not a woman..." becomes a hit they could at least get a second moderate hit out of a handful other tracks.

Alright debut. They will need a sizable sales amount to get that #1 though.
Hopefully streams trend up through the week as more people read reviews and fan reactions.

I'm shook. I don't even know how Halsey managed to get Trent and Atticus on board, but holy shit did they all come through. This album blew me away. She's got a new fan in me.

I've given myself a full day with this album and have concluded it is Halsey's best by lightyears. I find it interesting to note that she's stated this is the album she's always wanted to make, but just never felt cool enough to. They had even tried calling Trent and Atticus before but backed out from doing so, if I'm not mistaken. As a result, this album easily feels like her natural sound. And what a sound it is.
If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power is among the best things I've heard in 2021, and it'll be hard for anything else to top it. Which is exactly what I said about Billie Eilish's Happier Than Ever--which should say something, because I think that album is also phenomenal. "The Tradition" sets a very nice stage for what we'd be in for with this album. It's a lovely track with a sound that I'd frankly find in a horror movie. The line "all of this is temporary" in "Bells of Santa Fe" is chilling and I love how it repeats at the very end. "Easier Than Lying" is INCREDIBLE. What a rocking jam. F**k. IANAW,IAG is phenomenal. "1121" is the reason I need therapy. "Darling" could pass as a country song, much like "You should be sad." Literally every track has something exemplary about it that makes you go back to it over and over and over. This album is gonna be with me for quite a long time. 1000000/10, A+, five stars.
Highlights: I am not a woman, I'm a god, Easier than Lying, 1121, Bells in Santa Fe, Darling

Okay, so when new music releases I just put like 500+ songs in a playlist and quickly scan through them to see which ones I even want to bother listening to in full. I just reached the part of the playlist that has this album on it and... I am floored. I found myself listening to the full 30 second clips of each track instead of just listening to like 10 seconds and making a snap decision. I am excited to fully dive into a complete listen through of this because based on the clips alone it is immaculate.

Will Kanye have enough streams to prevent this from going #1? For sure. Jesus is King actually outperformed his previous album by 60k. It had 164k on SPS alone, plus 100k actual sales. Even on streams alone he should outdo Halsey.

Poor Halsey - second time having a nearly-guaranteed #1 album being blocked by a surprise release from a hype-driven rapper. With their luck, the following project will have Drake or Kendrick randomly dropping something. 😭

Taylor said: "f**k Donda, I don't know her. Stream Halsey for good skin" lmao the pettiness. I adore her. I'm by no means a Halsey fan. I enjoyed a handful of songs off of her debut when I was at uni loooong ago, but may give this a spin with an open mind.

I like this a lot - more than I thought I would. I was not big on Manic at all outside of 3 AM, Graveyard, and You Should Be Sad, but this has a cool atmosphere and flow. I deleted a few songs but otherwise I'm really enjoying listening to the album basically in full.
Favorite tracks are The Tradition, Bells in Santa Fe, Girl is a Gun, You asked for this, honey, IANAWIAG, and Ya'aburnee.
