great numbers! projected 70k-85k pure album sales. BADLANDS: #2, 115k SPS (97k sales). hopeless fountain kingdom: #1, 106k SPS (76k sales). Manic: #2, 239k SPS (180k sales). Looks like her streak of 6-figure openings will continue.

"Lilith" also enters CHR/Pop Radio Top 50, joining "I am not a woman, I'm a god." the latter has climbed up to #32 so far.

Not only perfect pop album, but a perfectly executed album rollout, which is even more impressive and hard. Excellent single choices, amazing music videos, strong promotion everywhere. Katy milked the era in the best way possible, and truly had a chokehold on music fans and the GP alike for three whole years.
I know this is Halsey's thread, but it's always worth raving about the legendary "Teenage Dream" era. Truly the blueprint. Even Michael Jackson's imperial eras suffered from terrible lead singles, while Katy and her team made perfect choice after perfect choice (sans the Kanye remix of "E.T"). Which makes the downgrade from "Prism" onwards even more baffling. 😔

The quality jump from that to the Billie Jean/Beat It one-two punch is insane. And I completely agree about Teenage Dream being the pinnacle of a great album era. And the title track is one of the greatest pop songs to ever bless this Earth.

This is their first album that I’ve truly loved and in a way, I’m impressed with the no prereleased single strategy in order for everyone to experience the album as a whole.

Easily my favorite album of theirs. Such a strong and cohesive body of work! No skips from me.

Can they re-do Maniac? I love their interview with Zane Lowe and how Trent thought Halsey songs were too good to be background music on a playlist.
I love every single song aside from the intro, but I get its purpose. 4.5/5

Also, are ticket sales counting towards first week numbers? I read it was on track to do 750,000 from its limited box office?
750,000/ 12 a ticket = 62,500 additional sales…
If streaming something on YouTube can count as a fucking sale, I think turning up at the theatre with coins should count too?

Ticket bundles are no longer counted by Billboard. The album would have to be an à la carte add-on selected by each ticket buyer to purchase separately.

Older acts like Bon Jovi were abusing ticket bundles to make it seem like their current music was somehow popular too.
It did depress numbers across the board. Kanye about to have the biggest opening since that and it's still "only" gonna be around 350k. But I'd say it was deserved.

Everyone is talking about the album and the number of events leading up to it…the man is a marketing genius if nothing else. Undoubtedly the #1 album across North America this week.

I gotta say I think she's safely avoided the D List where Bebe Rexha and Zara Larsson reside these days but unless she can regain some single traction I don't think she's gonna move to the higher level that, say, Dua Lipa achieved with her last album.
I still don't understand how her career slowed down so much after WM. She's been serving quality.

Before Future Nostalgia, Dua and Halsey were to me on the same level. I expected Halsey to rise to the upper reaches first but MANIC kind of went nowhere once it came out. Then Future Nostalgia made Dua a star. Halsey is recognizable, and is probably at whatever level Miley Cyrus is today.

Halsey I imagine will have the same visibility as LDR for the foreseeable future.
She's established herself and a fanbase that definitely supports her that even if she no longer sees major commercial success in terms of singles she will probably continue doing well selling albums and concerts. This album could also help her develop a presence on alt radio charts where LDR is also a presence.

Wasn't expecting the Garage production of "Girl Is A Gun"! The album is really solid. Some great tracks. I hope it propels Halsey back into the forefront. It certainly seems the album is going to be more successful than her previous.

I'm glad Pop radio seems to be on board with the first single! This project deserves some longevity.

So I guess I'm a pretty casual listener of her music. I do know some of her singles from the last years, but I cannot name not even one from the top of my head. And I know I liked some and what she can do with her voice. Pretty cool voice to me. I decided to take a quick listen to the album the other day. Not at all what I was expecting!! Don't know why I was expecting a very poppy album with some guest rappers or stuff like that. How wrong was I!! On first listen it sounded dark, mellow, acoustic, etc, I don't know. I can't say I was hooked with any of the songs (well, perhaps the first single some), but it left me with curiosity and wanting to listen to it one more time and paying more attention to the lyrics.

I've struggled with this album. I did not expect it to be as dark, moody, and cacophonous as it is. So much of it seems harsh to me, sonically speaking. I'm going to give it a few more chances, but I'm thinking I'll wait for her next one at this point.

She definitely has a fan over at SNL. Performing again on October 9th. Kim Kardashian is the host (UGH).
