Not a fan of Walker Hayes at all and have not ever clicked with anything he's literally ever released, including this song (haven't yet heard his offering with Lori McKenna in the August Country Releases rankdown just yet though so stay tuned on that), but I will always give credit where it's due, and I'm very happy to see his huge overnight success with this song for the way it has interrupted the way we have constantly seen country songs become hits--i.e., years-long chart climbs, over-reliance most of the time on callouts, massive amounts of playlisting, etc. Reading through this thread, it was really nice to see this song debut within the Top 40 of the all-genre Hot 100 before even appearing at country radio, and it was even nicer to see this song jump 15 spots from 53-38 on Country Airplay...in its second week (!!!!), and now it's just incredible to see this nearing the Top 10 of the Hot 100, while still not even in the Top 30 on country radio (if I'm not mistaken). That's just unheard of. I honestly hope the industry takes a long, hard, close look at this song's run, because it could (and imo should) be a huge example of how radio should be running--this song is clearly what the general public wants to hear on country radio, so for the love of God play it!!! Capitalize on it! Pull in listeners!!! It's hard to do that when there are songs lasting years on the chart that people are getting sick of hearing 457839 times a day, every day, despite you continuing to play them 457839 times a day, every day. Also...this argument about the HCS chart is making me laugh. Lil Nas X was literally just trying to troll the HCS chart before Billboard stopped it, as .indulgecountry pointed out. And besides, he has not released anything remotely country since. Every single from his upcoming album has been on the completely polar opposite of the musical spectrum from country. And he was never on a country label anyways. Walker Hayes is, and this song sounds no more "not country" than nearly anything else played on country radio in 2021, and he's a country artist, so obviously he's gonna have a song chart on HCS

Don't get how anyone can hate this. Such a dumb and wholesome song. That can be applied to a lot of modern pop country but this one just goes all in and it's so fun

That can be applied to a lot of modern pop country but this one just goes all in and it's so fun IMO this song is so far away from what country should sound like that it’s a joke to even call it pop country because that implies it has some country sound to it. When stuff like this is called country and is extremely popular like this song is it’s going to encourage others and the mainstream country genre will get further away form the sound so many of us enjoy. You can even see artist like Chris Young who made really great country music move to more of a pop sound because they see country radio dumbing down playing songs like this. I also want to add that I’m not hating on Walker Hayes he’s actually a really great guy from the interviews I’ve seen. I’m not even saying this song shouldn’t exist ....it just shouldn’t be labeled country.

Not everything needs to be like Alan Jackson and Johnny Cash.

Okay first of all I hate the argument of "How can anyone hate this?", simple taste is subjective and anyone can like or dislike whatever they want to. This style of music isn't for everyone, just like not everyone likes the traditional country sound.
Also while this song probably would stand out on pop radio, I do think this song does stand out from the crowd in country radio as well, not that there is anything wrong with that. Because play this along side a lot of the songs on the chart right now it definitely stands out to a certain degree imo.

I get your point here, but it has been explained to you over and over again why this song is on country radio. And you don't think it should be. Fair point. I am sure many others agree too. But there is no point saying the same thing over and over again. You made your point (and it's a fair point) but just repeating it over and over isn't going to get this off the charts.

I tend to be a bit of a country "purist" and scoff at a lot of, say, Sam Hunt's output - but this doesn't really feel that far removed from country to me. I've heard it several times on country radio and I don't think it really sounds out of place at all. That's not to say that it sounds particularly country, either, but I think pop country is a pretty decent label. I'd much rather listen to this than Lil Bit, but to each their own.

The reason why this does not sound like a country song despite various "country music instruments" being present is because of Walker Hayes' delivery. The monotonic vocals are most similar to hip-hop/rap.

#20 on US Spotify now, #27 on Apple Music. And still very good sales. With its gains in radio too, I can see it possibly reaching the Hot 100 Top 10 in the next couple of weeks.

The monotonic vocals are most similar to hip-hop/rap. This. The opening instrumental riffs on the song literally just sounds like any other ol' country song on the radio, but it's his delivery that kind of separates it from a lot of the other stuff getting airplay. Musically/lyrically though, the song is totally in-line with the Cole Swindell, Sam Hunt, Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, etc. hits that country radio eats up already. "Fancy Like" may not sound like it was pulled from the same well as "Coal Miner's Daughter," but it sounds much closer to Sam Hunt than it does to the music of Lil Nas X, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, etc. It may upset neotraditional purists, but "Fancy Like" is a country song by 2021 standards.

This is an absolute monster. It could stop this week and would still be a Top 5 country hit this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this make both the 2021 and 2022 year-end Hot 100 lists when all is said and done.

Back at #1 on iTunes (without a discount). I wonder if this has potential to crack the Hot 100 top-10 yet.

It’s really nice to see this flying up the airplay chart due to the mega buzz around it, and not still stuck in the 50s like most singles these days.

It's already made top 50 on CHR without any official push, so that definitely bodes well for it being a solid crossover hit. I think it's probably got a good chance of going at least top 20 there.

Up to #11 on the Hot 100. It should enter the Top 10 in 3 weeks (Drake and Kanye album bombs will likely prevent it from entering the Top 10 the next 2 weeks).

It's impressive how well this is doing, quality aside. It did this despite two Kanye West debuts in the Top 10 as well as "Butter" returning to #1.
