RES is a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia who released one of my favorite albums EVER, her debut How I Do, in 2001 and then had her career completely derailed by the major label industry. She self-released her sophomore album, Black.Girls.Rock!, in 2009 followed by a Fleetwood Mac covers EP, Refried Mac, in 2013. Checkmate is the second release from her third album, RESET, coming later this year.

I would've ranked KYLE's song higher but the lyrics really turned me off. Normally, I'm a sucker for a dance beat but the "I guess that I deserve it" line followed immediately by an unironic Fight Club reference just rubbed me the wrong way and the fact that those lyrics are the CHORUS means having to hear them repeatedly.

"Secret" hit my early 2000s nostalgia a lot. I feel like early to mid 00s was a time to use Indian or Indian-influenced samples. e.g. "Addictive" by Truth Hurts & Rakim.
