Fuel has seen a resurgence in their grab bag of hits getting gold airplay on Alternative and Active as of late, so I'm not surprised that they're making a go for it on both formats. Whether either format will open up to a new song that doesn't have Brett Scallion on it is another story.
The new vocalist sounds similar to Brett but at the same time isn't trying to be him, which is probably the smarter way to go here. This song has the hooks of their old hits, avoiding the plodding nature of the last time the band didn't have their singer (Angels & Devils back in 2007), but at the same time I think it doesn't quite reach the level of their best songs (then again "Shimmer" is literally the perfect post-grunge song). I'm interested in seeing how well this does on radio.

Ugggggh…not sure how I feel about this. I like the instrumentation but the vocals aren’t doing it for me on first listen. It may be the super fast rushed singing parts that is turning me off. Maybe it will grow on me.
I was a fan of this band and really enjoyed their 2003 album and predecessors.

Oh my. I'm listening to this song as I type this. The vocalist sounds like freaking Fat Mike from NOFX. A band that I'm not a fan of at all.
Completely unlike what I was expecting to hear. I mean it's not bad exactly as I don't mind the chorus parts, but this is totally not like Fuel with the fast-paced verses.

What a mess this band became after the Something Like Human days. Its too bad because that album and Sunburn were both awesome

I really enjoyed “Falls On Me,” amongst others. With that said, I do agree this band went downhill after that. They haven’t been the same, sans Scallions on vocals.

Fuel had some great songs for a few years but even though I rooted for "Falls On Me" to be a surprise hit (which it was), I think that song actually kinda ruined them for me.
But "Shimmer," "Innocent," "Bad Day," and 'Hemorrhage" .....damn those were good

How come no one is talking about the melody in the verses? What song is that? It was a pop hit right? A recognizable melody like that makes me like it more. It stays hard without going hybrid or limp. I like that about it. Plus it is catchy.

Upon second listen- I generally like the melody and music but the vocals are awful. I can’t get past that. Not feeling this.

Honestly, I like the vocal - it reminds me of a cross between Mike Ness (Social Distortion) and Jim Lindberg (Pennywise). The song in general feels like the Fuel formula given a punk rock makeover reminiscent of those bands and others like NOFX, Offspring, Rancid, etc. As someone who's always enjoyed punk rock (more so than the pop-punk variant), this is a change that I don't mind whatsoever, and honestly keeps them viable for Alt without watering themselves down. We'll see how it works out in a week and change, of course.

This song is definitely growing on me. It has the classic Fuel sound. It’s taken me awhile to warm up to the vocals. The rest of the song is just too good for me not to like.

Is it even remotely possible this song can go top 20 or I dare say…top 10 on Active?

Active radio is desparate for anything even slightly relevant, so this moving up fast isn't surprising to me...hearing this for the 1st time, the vocals are certainly an acquired taste...sometimes they sound awful, sometimes they're OK ... this is certainly no Hemorrhage (In My Hands), but its much better than most of the Active chart (i know, that's a low bar)

This reminds me of 2005 so much, which is a positive for me since that's when I started listening to rock music. I'm glad it's actually doing well.

Brett and Carl Bell haven't seen eye to eye since 2004. Carl feels Brett is inadequate as a vocalist and Brett feels Carl is too controlling of the band. Neither member have been in the band at the same time since 2004 IIRC. Carl was biding his time until Brett decided to leave Fuel for other projects and restarted the band from there. No one from the 2013-20 Brett-led version of the band is involved with the current era.
