I was afraid to listen to this based on the title and the background image of the American flag. Turns out that lyrically it was exactly what I was expecting... trash. Which is a shame because melodically I actually like this a good bit. But I'm absolutely not here for people on the wrong side of history complaining that this country is being ruined by making it more inclusive. So that'll be the one and only time I listen to that. Can't wait for the comments on this thread though

This is one of the worst songs I’ve heard this year. Can we leave Aaron Lewis in whatever year he was relevant in?

This song sucks, he sucks, and it appeals to the worst types of people, aka the people who are closed off and can't accept change. Unfortunately there are a lot of those morons in America hence why this shit becomes popular.

This song seems like it was written by throwing far right Facebook Memes and bumberstickers together to create a 4:35 minute song.

This song is okay. But, I will always respect the flag and what it represents. I just went and re-watched Red Skelton's "The Pledge of Allegiance." Powerful, indeed!

No surprise here, but it debuts at #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart this week.

I'm assuming that the reason as to why this Song was released is to appeal to the White Conservative Republicans who act like we are not a free country if we don't believe in their Political beliefs, I'm speaking as someone who watches Politics that these same people chose to stand by our Disgraced Former President by believing all of the BS that came out of his mouth in regards to alleged voter fraud in the 2020 US Presidential Election. The whole point that I'm trying to make is that they shouldn't complain about not having enough freedom and then choose to divide our Country by spreading their hateful rhetoric.
Now on the topic of this Song, Yeah the lyrics are absolute crap and I couldn't help but cringe when he mentioned the US Flag. Hopefully this Song ends up completely flopping in Country Radio that is unless they choose to put this crappy song in high rotation.

I’m mixed on the song- parts of it I really like and I love Aaron Lewis (give me Staind over his solo stuff anyday tho) but I thought he sounded pretty rough in spots on this. The song also seemed to drag on a bit too long for my liking.
Lyrically, it didn’t really move me one way or the other honestly. I thought it was going to be WAY worse based on the comments, but again, it wasn’t IMO. I’m so not a political person tho so maybe that’s why I’m just more meh when it comes to songs like this. I appreciate those who fought for our freedom and those who lost their lives so we could enjoy the safety and peace of mind we all do today, and I’m fine with songs that show said appreciation. Songs that start making political statements one way or the other however, that’s when you start to lose me. This song didn’t really move the needle for me at all in that regard. Clearly Aaron Lewis is conservative, but overall I thought this song would have been a lot more aggressive than it was honestly.

To pander to me? You know nothing about me. I don’t think this song is that great I was just pointing out how ridiculous it is to see the American flag and immediately think negatively. America has its flaws like any other country and as someone who has traveled to many other countries I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. The American flag is for every American not one party over the other.

This is OK, but for a guy who talks about his hate for cancel culture a lot, it sounds like he’s using that on Bruce here, lol. The lyric is unnecessary, and this coming from someone who leans right.
I think Bruce is fantastic. I think Aaron is fantastic. I don’t care about either ones politics.

It’s not very good even without taking into account the terrible message and intent.

Can't wait for the comments on this thread though You were afraid to listen to this song because it has the American flag in the background? Sad Two things: 1) I stated that "I was afraid to listen to this based on the title and the background image of the American flag." That meant the two individual items of a) the title, and b) the use of the American flag as the background of the lyric video together is what I was afraid of. I have a problem with neither the song title "Am I The Only One" (in fact Dierks' song of the same name is fantastic) nor the American flag. However, I saw the writing on the wall with the two combined, which made me worry we were getting a song pandering to the Right about how Aaron feels like he's the only one fighting for "true American values" that he believes the American flag stands for. More on that in point 2... 2) Unfortunately, the American flag has been idolized by the Right so deeply that it is used as a symbol that deviates so far from "Liberty and Justice for all." Like I said, I don't have any problem with the American flag, but in certain contexts it is weaponized as a symbol for something it is not meant to stand for. Just like Aaron Lewis, to me, the flag stands for freedom. We just have different definitions of freedom. Certain individuals believe that "freedom" means that they are free to be homophobic and racist and sexist and xenophobic and classist... and the accountability society has created for holding everyone to doing the bare minimum of being a good person and NOT being so filled with hate and discrimination is somehow infringing upon their freedom. My definition of freedom is that everyone is free to live their lives without fear - fear of discrimination, fear of not being able to pay for healthcare or food or housing, fear of being who they are. So if that is what the American flag is symbolizing, I am all for it. However, the second the flag is used as a symbol to oppress and marginalize, then I will be first in line to tear "the threads of Old Glory" apart.

This song is cringeworthy lyrically and Aaron Lewis has always been a pretty terrible vocalist, so this is definitely a no from me.

Debuts at #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs Jesus Christ HOW?! That's insane. He hasn't even been remotely relevant in a decade. Walker Hayes just went viral with "Fancy Like" and it *only* peaked at #4 so how did this get enough attention out of nowhere to dethrone a Luke Combs hit with millions of audience impressions?

Debuts at #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs How is this even possible? I hadn't even heard of this song until a couple hours ago.

This is absolute trashfire, lyrically and vocally. I liked several Staind songs, but this is easily one of the worst songs I've heard this year.

Debuts at #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs How is this even possible? I hadn't even heard of this song until a couple hours ago. Aaron Lewis, founding member and lead vocalist of hard rock band Staind, blasts in atop Billboard's airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Country Songs chart (dated July 17) with "Am I the Only One" (Valory). Lewis' first Hot Country Songs leader is the ninth song to debut atop the tally (which began as a multi-metric genre ranking in 1958 and segued to its current methodology in 2012). It's the third of 2021, following Morgan Wallen's "Wasted on You" in January and Taylor Swift's "Love Story (Taylor's Version)" in February. Released July 2, "One," which Lewis wrote with Ira Dean and Jeffrey Steele, arrives with 59,300 sold in its first week, ending July 8, according to MRC Data. It opens atop Country Digital Song Sales and at No. 2 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales ranking. On the former, it marks the biggest week since the chart dated Feb. 10, 2018, when Jason Aldean's "You Make It Easy" soared in with 76,900 sold. "One" also drew 4 million U.S. streams in the tracking week. The Valory Music label will begin promoting the song to country radio July 26. Lewis adds his fourth Hot Country Songs appearance, after hitting a prior No. 39 high with "Endless Summer" in 2012. He has achieved two No. 1s on Top Country Albums. His first foray into the genre, the EP Town Line, arrived atop the tally in March 2011, and Sinner started at the apex in October 2016. Staind formed in Springfield, Mass., and has notched three No. 1s on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart, along with four leaders on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. The group hit a No. 5 best on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 with "It's Been Awhile" in 2001. Lewis also lands his highest-charting solo Hot 100 hit, as "One" opens on that chart at No. 14. He has posted three solo Hot 100 entries, each 10 years apart: "Outside," with Fred Durst, hit No. 56 in 2001 and "Country Boy," featuring George Jones and Charlie Daniels, reached No. 87 in 2011. "One," which includes such lyrics such as "Am I the only one who quits singing along every time they play a Springsteen song/ Watchin' the threads of Old Glory come undone, I'm not the only one," has built buzz in part via Fox News, SiriusXM's Patriot Radio and social media platform Telegram.

The Billboard article tells. 59.3k sales aided by media coverage (and two versions on iTunes, releasing during July 4th weekend)

So this will be an interesting one to watch (thread and song's chart performance).
I'm thinking it leans too heavily one way and it'll struggle to make it all that high. Doesn't help he sounds pretty bad here.

You sure do seem to know a lot about me considering you know nothing about me. I don’t even like this song .....All I said was it’s pretty sad when someone just sees the American flag and thinks negatively on it.
