What will be #1? It'll probably be "She's Mine" as single bias might propel it to the top, but I'm hoping it'll be "Fire and Flame"
What will make up the Top 5? "She's Mine", "Wild World", "Red White Blue Jean American Dream", "Fire and Flame", and "Southpaw"
What will be #17? Maybe "Grown On You"?
What will be in the Bottom 5? "Grow On You", "Payin' Hard", "Man's Gotta Do", "How High", and "South"
Any other thoughts/comments? This was one of my favorite albums of last year that I also ended up buying on vinyl. I was a bit disappointed then when they released a deluxe version which kind of left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Despite Kip seeming to get quite a bit of free rein to make the album he wants, it just feels like MCA Nashville doesn't quite know what to do with him or his music. Also, much like his previous albums there was at least a hit or two right there in the mix that they passed up on.

This album is among my favorites of 2020 and "Sweet Virginia" is one of the reasons I'd consider it a favorite because I love this song and could only put it at #13.
"Man's Gotta Do" and "How High" are easily the weakest of this album. I like both but they were not strong additions to the album over what was already on the album.

No real surprises in the bottom 5 as I had correctly guessed three of the songs that landed there. And I initially did have “Man’s Gotta Do” listed as the song that would exit first, but at the last moment I switched my guess out for a different song. “Sweet Virginia” is another song that I thought might also leave in the bottom 5, but in the end I thought it might get a bit more support than I was expecting. That didn’t turn out to be the case after all (other than lone top 5). I wish I liked this song more, but for whatever reason it just doesn’t isn’t one that I’ve felt compelled to revisit. Speaking of top 5s, poor Troublemaker lost two in a row!

I will get us to the Top 10 tonight, just finishing up the graphics for Shuffle #11 so took a short break from reveals. #12 is coming up soon. With this elimination we will see 2 more Top 5 ranks be lost!
Speaking on the last two songs I revealed. "More Than Enough" is one that I like well enough if I'm listening to the full album but otherwise I don't seek it out so it going out early feels right for me.
As for "Payin' Hard", this is probably the song that grew on me the most from this album. I initially wasn't crazy about this song but the more I listen to it the more I really like it. Sad to see it out so early but also not surprised at all.

so #11 is tied with #10 so I will be revealing them tomorrow! The song at #10 will see someone lose their #1!

no it wasn't that time, but this time just missing the top 5 is in fact ClevelandRox! This is where I'm leaving off for the night. We lost a couple of my favorites in this set. I've loved "Don't Stop Changing" since it was first released, and "South", "Wild World", and "Southpaw" are really great, sad to see them miss the top 5

Oh c'mon, Hey Old Lover left way too early!! It might not be the best song lyrically, but love the melody and beat. Definitely deserves better than #11.

I really liked "Janie Blue"! My high school girlfriend was named Janey, so songs that mention that name tend to be extra nostalgic to me (random, I know), but this one also had a very unique melody that helped it to stand out in a good way imo! "Midnight Slow Dance" is has such a catchy uptempo vibe to it, plus it already had some built in good will from being part of the New Releases series a few months ago, so it was one I was happy to put at #1! Same deal with "Fire And Flame", tbh. The echoey production makes this melody stand out just right, and it's one that I can't help but get stuck in my head when I listen to it. And apparently "She's Mine" was my #2? There's something about this wall-of-sound guitar work that I just can't help but get enough of whenever this song comes on I should have made this my #1 so it could have been in the top 2.... I literally went back and forth so many times between this one and "Midnight Slow Dance"!!! I think I even changed it last-minute in the instant before I clicked "submit"...

She's Mine had an annoying chart run, but it's a great song. The guitar production is really satisfying, and it was a great radio single.
Red White Blue Jean American Dream would have been a great follow-up single, if I focus mainly on the melody. I also enjoy the lyrics and Kip's delivery. It's undeniably catchy, and it's my favourite fast-tempo song, alongside with The Bull.
Not much to say on Fire and Flame, but I didn't expect it to outlast the above two songs.
Thanks for hosting. By revisiting these songs, it made me feel even sadder that Good Life was picked as a single over these songs!

By revisiting these songs, it made me feel even sadder that Good Life was picked as a single over these songs! That decision still has left me shaking my head as "Red White Blue Jean American Dream" was right there! Speaking of, I'm not surprised that one ended up performing well here and that it almost came out on top. While my top-ranked song was a given from the get-go, both songs in my top 3 ("American Dream" and "She's Mine") could just as easily be swapped for one another as I enjoy them equally. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the outcome as I didn't think "Fire and Flame" would come out on top. Even though I figured that castleoblivion26 would likely rank this at the top just like myself, but coming into this I had set my expectations that it might only be a top 5 contender. It'll go down as one of my all-time favorite album tracks from Kip and one of my favorite songs from last year. Much like other artists, I think that the pandemic had quite an impact on this album era and it would've been interesting to see how it would've played out if not for that. I feel like he lost quite a bit of momentum especially since he wasn't able to tour behind it which is one of his strong suits. I'm also not sure how many more radio hits he has in him as it seems like he's lost some momentum there as well ("Good Life" certainly didn't do him any favors with that either). Anyways, it was great going back to revisit this album as it was one I had on repeat for most of the summer last year. Thanks again castleoblivion26 !
