THE NEW KID IN TOWN
Columbia’s The Kid Laroi appears to be in a good position to challenge for #1 on next Friday’s HITS Top 50. In the absence of Kanye West’s expected Donda album, the third iteration of Laroi's F*ck Love project, F*ck Love 3: Over You, will compete with Geffen’s Olivia Rodrigo with each projecting to around 70k.
The Kid Laroi (Columbia) 65-70k total activity, <1k albums EST Gee (Warlike/CMG/Interscope) 21-24k, <1k Leon Bridges (Columbia) 12-15k, 6-8k
Now excuse us while we binge-watch Olympic table tennis and wait for Donda to drop

Isn't Folklore vinyls shipping this week? I would expect it to contend for the top spot if so for its 1 year anniversary.

^I would expect HITS to account for those on Tuesday's projection.

yeah i would be disappointed with taylor's team tbh if they manage to throw the #1 spot on a week with so little competition that happens to coincide with both a vinyl shipping and an album anniversary

Is that Laroi project a new album or expansion to Fuck Love?

Is that Laroi project a new album or expansion to f**k Love? It's basically a second deluxe edition.

I wonder if Doja's team will try to sneak in a week at number one soon.

Isn't Folklore vinyls shipping this week? I would expect it to contend for the top spot if so for its 1 year anniversary. are they? looking at the site, it just says ships in 1-2 weeks, which makes it feel like stock isn't very limited. 1 version, full price. compared to fearless, where it specifically says ships labor day. and for the anniversary, taylor just had like...a more upbeat version of a bonus track. i don't see how that would motivate more sales.

It was said Folklore vinyls had a ship date of July 23rd from a post I quoted in her album thread. It would make sense for them to push for a return to #1 the week of it's one year anniversary. Things could have changed I suppose.

The Kid Laroi’s now 35-track F*ck Love (Columbia) will leap to #1 this week with nearly 80k. How much higher will the addition today of six new tracks send it? Warlike/CMG/Interscope’s EST Gee is the lone new entry in today’s Top 20 with 27k and a possible Top 10 debut. New content and packages from Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney propel their albums back into the Top 20.

I just realized that F Love would be the first non-debut #1 on the Billboard 200 since the Frozen 2 soundtrack, which coincidentally, was Blinding Lights debut week on the Hot 100. It would be something if Billie knocked off BL, bookending its 86-week run with non-#1 debuts on the 200.

I'd say something shipped seeing as Folklore is in the 50's this week and is predicted to move to #10 this week. ^^

Only 78k for 35 tracks…

That's really concerning (although to be fair, some of the tracks are a year old), and so is the fact that only 4 albums have over 40k and 6 albums over 30k, as well as Yung Bleu not making the Top 20 with a 15 track album.

Guess those Folklore vinyls didn't ship this week after all. Lol Idk about online purchases but all my local record shops got a bunch of copies available for sale since last week for the first time.

Yeah, it definitely looks like folklore vinyls shipped. It was just a lower number as there have been numerous shipments in the past already (mine shipped last November).
Nice to see it return to the top 10.

Wow, nice start for the remixed Paul McCartney. I was hoping for Olivia to pull through with another week… I can’t stand Kid Laroi.

I really wish they’d make a rule that if tracks are added mid-week to an album they cannot count for consumption until the beginning of the next tracking week lol.
There’s a difference between an actual re-release and just throwing something together immediately to inflate charting. This album has been expanded twice this same week.

Is there really a difference? I view it similar to the discount rule, which has a price minimum of $3.99 that only applies to an album’s first 4 weeks. If they saw a clear difference and potential further chart battle issues it would cause with selling an album at 99 cents during the middle of its opening week to inflate its debut versus a normal regular discount throughout an albums cycle then I would say attaching another entirely brand new album to your album in the middle of its opening week to inflate its debut (NAV, Laroi) versus a traditional re-release has a clearly similar purpose.

I just wish artists would put out better quality albums. These numbers are really troubling, and suggest that no one is consuming these albums anymore.

^The latter is reflected in the fact that music from catalog albums have been increasingly gaining a bigger part of the share of streaming overall in the US. While more catalog albums are available with time, this is a troubling trend for current albums, for sure.

Not that I expect it to do much this week, but ZZ Top's Greatest Hits is #1 at iTunes. RIP, Dusty Hill.

While more catalog albums are available with time, this is a troubling trend for current albums, for sure. The Billboard 200 will reflect this even more with time, but Album Sales is leaning more towards catalog titles than ever before. Don't be shocked if Bob Marley's Legend leads the sales race one day; it is inevitable that both old and new albums will harmonize in a rather unpredictable pattern...

Sales are small enough that vinyl has a big impact
