2 early adds at radio this week.
Still no signs of an impact date. Someone I know who interns at Warner Nashville said they want to try to get Gabby high enough where they can comfortably push Ingrid/Sam alongside her, but who knows how long that will take since “Footprints On The Moon” isn’t gaining any sales & streaming traction 🙄
Honestly if I were Warner, I would be focusing more on Ingrid this time. They’ve focused hard on Gabby long enough. “Wishful Drinking” is already showing much more potential of becoming a big hit compared to “Footprints On The Moon”, but clearly Warner doesn’t seem to notice…

The fact that it already got a couple of early adds does indicate radio is interested and it will probably go to radio, but just give it some time. This song has been barely out for a week and I do think Warner is trying their best with Ingrid Andress and do care about her but I also think they feel like Gabby Barrett is more popular of an artist hence why they focus on her so much. I also think Warner probably will notice in good time, just give it some time.

Debuts at #40 on the Hot Country Songs chart. It’s Ingrid’s 3rd Top 40 entry of her career.

I reached out to multiple people at Warner and finally got a response on a radio push for "Wishful Drinking":
Warner has been ready to push this, but Sam's team/label hasn't. I assume he might have a new single coming soon and if that's the case, Warner probably doesn't think pushing this as Sam's solo single would probably interfere with it. I would love for them to push it regardless even if it isn't at Country Radio immediately. It could easily be a Hot AC/AC single then crossover to Country.

Sam/his team could also not be wanting to release it to radio right now for the optics of his situation, which would be a shame for Ingrid since this song is quite good and radio friendly, which is what she needs right now.

I totally forgot about his situation which is a good point.
On the bright side, the song didn't outright freefall after release week as it's still Top 500 on all-genre iTunes (#308) nearing 10 million streams on Spotify and charting Top 100 on the AM Country chart.

I hadn't even heard the news about Sam Hunt until Googling it just now... yikes. That said, if what I read is true and he's about to spend nearly a year in jail, then... wouldn't that be a good idea to push this since I can't imagine releasing a new solo single from him any time soon would be a good idea, whereas the Ingrid Andress song would be an easy holdover hit for him with no need for him to be involved in promotional efforts since its already got a music video and she could easily just perform it solo or swap out the duet partner if need be for TV spots or w/e. It's looking poised to be a huge smash, so it would be a shame if his personal life got in the way of Ingrid Andress getting a hit here.

I believe he is only spending 48 hours in jail. But, I can see how he/his team wouldn't want him to release a drinking song to radio immediately after pleading guilty. I don't think it would look very good, tbh.

I don't think it would look very good, tbh. First article I read just referenced the original sentence of 11 months, but I went back and perused some others that say that he's only having to serve 48 hours of it now, so I see that now. I do get why the topic of the song is probably not the best look presently, but at the end of the day the song is more so Ingrid's not his, has already shown the makings of taking off in a big way, and, I don't know how "big" this news will really affect him. I actually hadn't heard anything about it until some of the vague allusions to his current situation in the posts above which prompted me to go to Google, and I can see a majority of casual fans not ever getting wind of him spending 2 nights behind bars for a DUI that had already came and gone as a headline two years ago and had no real impact on his career. I get both sides, but man, what an absolutely shitty situation and timing for Ingrid Andress here and that's my main takeaway here, not so much anything related to Sam Hunt.

It’s not even jail; they made sure to clarify it’s an “alternate sentencing facility.” In California, that usually means some kind of rehab or a place where you basically “work” and do community service while there.

Disagree regarding some points: (1) Since Sam Hunt doesn't have any solo single on country radio right now, this actually serves as Sam Hunt's single for country radio as well. See also If I Didn't Love You for Carrie Underwood. (2) Let's not lie to ourselves. The initial success of this song is majorly due to the name of Sam Hunt. (3) Sam Hunt's DUI incident was widely publicized. It would be weird if Ingrid's team didn't know anything about that. (4) Furthermore, Sam Hunt did not write this song, so her team must actively seek him for the duet (&). One thing that I agree though. No one really cared about his DUI. His fans obviously didn't care. His haters didn't hate him because of that.

His fans obviously didn't care. His haters didn't hate him because of that. I don't understand point #4, but I don't feel like I really disagree with any of these points you're making so I'm not sure what the disagreements are? My bottom line is basically: this sucks for Ingrid (not Sam, idgaf) because it was looking like a huge smash with or without Sam Hunt's controversy and I doubt it would be something that would give radio major pause since they typically don't bat an eyelash over one of their male A-listers doing anything that gets negative press (Jason Aldean's big public cheating scandal/subsequent divorce a few years back that was a non-troversy, i.e.), and like you said in re: no one caring about his DUI, I feel like this news update will be even less of a blip on the radar. So, if this never gets officially pushed to radio because they're afraid a handful of people will hear it and think it sounds bad for him to reference drinking after he had a DUI is unfortunate. This is such an exceptional song with amazing hit potential. I can see the news regarding Sam Hunt blowing over in a few weeks and maybe by like October they can (hopefully) push this to radio. 🤞

"Unfortunate" won't be my word choice because I don't like this songBut yeah, our conclusion is the same: if this song not impact radio because of DUI, it is weird, and my point #4 basically implies it's Ingrid's team's fault to find a duet partner with a history of DUI to sing about drinking.

I hope this isn’t a single because I’m still clinging on to hope that Sam’s team releases “2016” to radio. It’s the perfect Fall/Winter single.

Always thought there was a good chance that Ingrid would suffer the same fate as Cam did for some reason (also feel this way about Lainey Wilson, but am waiting to see how her next single performs to make a decision.) More hearts than mine is one of my favorite songs from last year, but without on the verge I think radio wouldn’t have paid attention to it.
Really it’s all about the single they release after their OTV single that kind of gives you a look if country radio is invested in them or just that one song. One that worked was Carly. Her follow up to every little thing (HTW) still made a good dent in the chart even if it didn’t go all the way to #1. Meanwhile Cam’s follow up (mayday) peaked in the upper thirties.

Maren and Kelsea are really the only two females to “breakthrough” at radio over the last 5-6 years and be guaranteed a hit with almost anything.
Most people on this board act like Carly Pearce is a country music hall of famer but she has 2 Top 10 hits all-time. She isn’t a guaranteed radio name and unfortunately neither is Lauren Alaina or Ashley McBryde.
If Ingrid can’t release this song with Sam, call another male vocalist and redo it like a “Thinkin Bout You” situation and let’s gooooo. I love this song. Ingrid is a unique case where the talent is so obvious and immediate but what genre does she fit?

I mean I don't think people here are thinking Carly Pearce is a hall of famer success wise, maybe quality wise but not success. That being said, it does seem like country radio does really like Carly Pearce and at this point barring her releasing a complete dud of a song I do think she is going to keep racking up hits on country radio (whether that is a Top 20 hit or a #1)

Ingrid reminds me a lot of Maren in that she's really in her own lane and that she's been able to stand out from a lot of newer females. She doesn't seem like the kind of artist to be chasing after these huge hits even though I do think some of her songs could be huge if given the proper attention/promo. That said, if Country doesn't work out for her going forward, I'm all here for her going Pop because I think she could really do well there and I really want her to keep seeing continued success.

Sam has a new solo song called “23” that’s out on Thursday, so I assume this confirms “Wishful Drinking” won’t be pushed at radio anymore.
Really bad timing for Ingrid. Her team has been so stupid with her single rollouts. First “Waste of Lime” & now “Wishful Drinking”… 2 smash hits that could’ve been huge for her 😔

I mean Jon Pardi has both "Tequila Little Time" and "Getting Over Him" so it isn't a lock that "Wishful Drinking" isn't going to be released as a single just fyi

I don’t think it’s worth pushing if it ends up stalling in the 40’s for months like “Getting Over Him”.

Isn't the reason why Tequila Little Time is stalling because of the horns (and hence polarizing for radio) rather than him being featured in two songs at the same time? I mean Wine Beer Whiskey is a relevant example.

I wouldn't exactly say "Tequila Little Time" is stalling. It's made some great gains the past few weeks and it's not like this song was expected to shoot up the charts fast or anything. I think it's doing fine, but I was just saying that "Getting Over Him" is the one stalling. I think it would be higher if Jon didn't have a solo single being promoted alongside it.

Yeah I really don’t know what was up with waste of lime. Idk why they put it out if they just planned on pushing Lady Like as the single. Should’ve saved it for a summer release.

Rises +7 spots to a new peak of #37 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart this week!
Such a shame that Warner won't give it a proper radio push because this could easily be a pretty big hit for Ingrid. I'm convinced they're done pushing her at radio sadly :(

I said it in the Upcoming Singles thread already, but about damn time! Very happy about this news and can't wait to see this smash. This is such an obvious hit and will definitely help keep Ingrid Andress on country radio and set her up nicely for her sophomore album launch once that happens.

I've been waiting so long for this to happen and I'm so glad it's finally time for "Wishful Drinking" to go to Country Radio! I really have high hopes for this doing well and I think it will.
I really hope they end up going for a crossover push if it ends up doing well at Country Radio!
