All these MTV icons of yesteryear are definitely up way past their bedtimes.

Video of the Year - Lil Nas X "Montero" 100 percent deserved, it's not the best video ever but the impact it made on the year is far and wide

just came home from an outing and am taking a look at the performances. thoughts (from best to worst, of the ones I watched):
- Chlöe: she. did. not. come to play. I'm speechless... her first solo performance EVER and she's outdone every single soloist on the stage. well done. - Kacey Musgraves: I was surprised to see she did the title track, but I think the cinematic setting really worked well on the stage. got goosebumps. - Lil Nas X: he's not known for his live vocals or anything, so I think he delivered in the departments I wanted him to. Jack Harlow did great, too. - Kim Petras: she did so good! I'm so proud. first trans artist on the VMA stage, I've been told. she also delivered. - Olivia Rodrigo: props to her for doing it RAW. she was definitely out of breath by the end, but I think the live element really elevates the song, so I'd say it paid off. - Camila Cabello: this song is still horrid but Karla did well. not nearly as good as her "Havana" Grammy performance, but still somewhat entertaining to look at. - Doja Cat: she lipped all of it, right? this was boring. it reminded me of that time Lorde did a fully-lipped "Homemade Dynamite" performance. biggest let down imo. - Swedish House Mafia: "Lifetime" is a banger, but this was not entertaining besides the quality of the song. I'm intrigued by the snippet at the end, though. - Kid Laroi & Bieber: so absolutely boring. - Shawn Mendes: bland song, bland person, bland performance.
waiting for Normani's performance to be uploaded.

So many of these awards are sus as hell. I would’ve loved to see “WAP” get recognized cause what an EVENT that was but neither of them were there so they had to go with the second best pick for both Video Of The Year and Best Collaboration (which is still fine by me).

Wasn't able to watch live but checked out the legendary Madonna intro, Olivia, Kacey, Chloe and LNX. Great performances!

In order of importance tonight, the only good performances were:
Chloe, Lil Nas X, Normani, Doja Cat, Kacey Musgraves, Kim Petras (who should've been mainstage), Olivia Rodrigo & Busta Rhymes! Also bopped my head to Latto's commercial breaks and Foo Fighter's bathroom break set.
Loved seeing Avril, SZA, Billie, Megan Fox in the audience. and Doja Cat's outfits!
Bieber needs to step it up, even autotune couldn't save his crack vocals and boring stage presence these days. Shawn & Camila stay being boring and getting booked bc their PR stunt worked.

^^ All straight males at the bottom, it's what they deserve.
Not that I really care about the VMA's as they are obviously just giving out awards to whoever shows plus Beyonce. But WAP not winning anything is wrong on so many levels. I mean if it was to lose to anything for VOTY it was going to be Lil Nas because that video was also a huge moment. But yeah ever since 2016/17 this award show has been the pits.

Didn’t watch the whole show either, just checked a few of the performances on YouTube. Kacey Musgraves and Olivia Rodrigo are the highlights as usual. The winners are predictable also, it was expected they were gonna give Olivia Rodrigo the most awards. This award show hasn’t been good in years, this show used to have great moments nowadays it’s just another forgettable award show.

Not trying to shade him, but how did Busta Rhymes land a VMAs slot in 2021?

It was a pretty good show… best I have seen in years… At least felt like they were trying this year… even a little bit like the vma’s of old.
As far as why Busta Rymes was there I was also a bit confuse… is he even relevant at all… maybe if he was getting a special award…but I think there are far more worthy people deserving for their contributions to music…perhaps he was going to get the award… but then the Foo Fighters became available… and In that case I do think they are more relevant than Busta

i honestly just enjoyed seeing a Busta performance in 2021. he’s hype, he’s solidified in music history and he performed in his own borough which is probably why he got a performance slot.

Jack Harlow is so cute. Can't fault Shawn for looking at him like that lol.
I would have voted for "WAP" but timing was against it, and "MONTERO" would have been a close second for my vote, so it's good.
Bieber winning so many awards was weird... but it's the VMAs.

Bieber is still the people's champ. He proves it every time he is given the chance. The year of the Black Women, performance-wise. Olivia was TERRIBLE and amateurish. Also, I swear Alicia was lipsynching,LOL. Cute show, overall.

#4 - Chlöe (performance) #8 - Lil Nas X (performance) #12 - Olivia Rodrigo (performance)
that's it.

Watching the Stay performance showcases how good of a singer Bieber actually is, yeah he's not the most interesting performer but he sang circles around Kid Laroi
