Heads up tekkenguy but threads like these belong over in the country news & non-singles sub-forum ( CC: sabre14 Kanenrá:ke Kurt ) To answer your question, I'd say a few definitive answers I can think of: Kansas - Martina McBride Massachusetts - Jo Dee Messina*** Missouri - Sara Evans Pennsylvania - Taylor Swift I can't think of anyone else from MA other than Jo Dee, but I am confident in the other three being the biggest from those states. The hard ones would be states like Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee which seem to make up like... 90% of country stars' origins, lol.

^Mississippi also has a lot of options.
I want so badly to make an "Alabama - Alabama" joke, but our biggest star is easily Hank Williams.

Louisiana would have to be Tim McGraw.

Shouldn't Dolly Parton be Tennessee? There are plenty of country stars to come out of there, but she is a gem of humanity.

Thought of another obvious one:
Alaska - Jewel

I know Texas is probably "hard" from a "there's a lot of people from here" standpoint, but George Strait does exist, so Oklahoma is probably the hardest, but I would give it to Reba. Although Garth would be hard to argue against! I think Reba's longevity beats even his huge highs though. Unfortunately for more modern fans, Blake and Carrie aren't even going to enter this chat unless they still are at their current level of fame 10-15 years from now, lmao.

New York would be Eddie Rabbitt and Kentucky would be Loretta Lynn.

Against the intention of the thread title, let me try a bit of Canadian provinces here. Quebec: Terri Clark Ontario: Shania Twain BC: Dean Brody Alberta: Carolyn Dawn Johnson or Paul Brandt? Tbh, not sure about other provinces/territories. Kanenrá:ke could help me out here. Gary Fjellgaard for SK Joan Kennedy for NB The Rankin Family for NS No idea about MN, Petric....? lol

I imagine Gretchen Wilson or Brett Eldredge for Illinois. Gretchen's career was probably more impactful I suppose.

Eh I think Gretchen Wilson or Brett Eldredge are pretty equal, Gretchen Wilson was such a quick hit in the pan and then fell into obscurity just as quick, where as Brett Eldredge's radio career spanned a bit longer and he had a few more hits.
I at least think it is close between the two and not definitively one way or the other, but then again what do I know?

I mean, she's not a legendary country music star by any means, but she was MASSIVE for a few years and Brett Eldredge has had a pretty unremarkable string of soft hits and has fallen off pretty hard recently. I think they're only close or comparable because her success happened 16 years ago and his was more recent. The fact that it's even a toss-up between a woman who had a handful of hits over a span of like 2-3 years (2004-2006) and a guy who had a string of hits that lasted 2-3x as long (2012-2018), says it all imo. Gretchen wins.

There are many country music stars who can claim North Carolina as their home, but I think it would be hard to argue against Ronnie Milsap as the biggest. From a career that spans almost 60 years, he has had 49 top 10 billboard country singles, 35 of which went to #1, and has sold over 35 million records. Also, many of his singles crossed over to the pop and AC charts.

I mean I will say for me the fact that Brett Eldredge had more hits than Gretchen Wilson does make me favor him slightly. I think Gretchen Wilson had the biggest hit between the two with "Redneck Woman" but I think Brett Eldredge had more hits in general so it kind of averages out with me having a slight lean towards Brett Eldredge since he had a few more hits. But more power to you if you think it is Gretchen Wilson, since it is so blatantly obvious I am not changing your mind on this one

But more power to you if you think it is Gretchen Wilson, since it is so blatantly obvious I am not changing your mind on this one Sometimes it's about quality over quantity though. Like I said, "Redneck Woman" all by itself (so ignoring her other like 4-5 hits) is bigger than his career. That song being as huge as it was has cemented her as someone who will live on in the genre through recurrent play and pop culture, even if she's a has-been now who hasn't had anything resembling a hit in a decade. Brett Eldredge will be lucky if people still remember any of his hits in 10-15 years, because I don't see that happening for songs like "Don't Ya" and "Drunk on Your Love." In the 2030s, I guarantee people will still remember "Redneck Woman" though, for the same reason country fans today are going to recall "Strawberry Wine" (and thus, Deana Carter) before they think of someone like... Chris Cagle, as an example. My bf didn't care for or listen to country music until he started dating me, but he already KNEW "Redneck Woman" as a non-country fan. I played it once and he instantly recognized it, and it's one of only a handful of songs that he knew before meeting me. As for the last part, you're correct that you're not going to change my mind, but this is a music discussion forum and we're having a music discussion so it's not about who's wrong or who's right.

First of all, sorry for my last part of my post, I just thought you were hinting that I was indefinitely wrong. So my apologies for that. I do think for country radio, I do think "Beat Of The Music" while not a huge commercial success will probably be a staple recurrent with radio, and for me personally I always value quantity over quality and I think both are valid imo.

Both are valid, yes absolutely, but more #1 hits doesn't make you a bigger star so I would say quality is definitely more important between the two (quality meaning in this case how big or impactful something is not just personal preference on what's a "good" song). Example: Justin Moore has more #1 hits than Miranda Lambert. There is absolutely 0 case that can be made that he's a bigger star than her.

A lot of people might argue with me that Patsy Cline or Mary Chapin Carpenter should be Virginia but I’d have to say it should be Ricky Van Shelton.

Hello? Anne Murray for Nova Scotia. There’s a whole museum and everything! I haven’t been to it though. Tried to convince by bf to go as we drove by her hometown the other week but he said no. Next time, go to the Anne Murray Centre by yourself. Second, I'm sure you know this song exists. It's called Please Don't Sell Nova Scotia. It should be the anthem for the province. I have it in my Anne Murray box set. Enjoy!:

I think Oregon is literally down to Kristy Lee Cook. Unless anyone can think of another artist from there.

Indiana: easily Joey Feek, born in Alexandria, who we all know was one half of Joey+Rory. There's no contest. That's the closest I think my home state has ever come to producing a star.
