Baby Yoda Hot100Fan they're definitely wrong. Scorpion destroyed Apple Music records when it dropped and most of it's streams in the US came from Apple Music. In fact, Scorpion wasn't available on Spotify until about 2 hours after it was released (I guess it was some glitch) and I vividly recall many Spotify users signing up for Apple Music trails just to listen to the album before it was available on Spotify. strongerq, do you think Scorpion pulled 170M streams globally on Apple Music in it's first day and somehow managed to pull less than 65M streams in the US in the same time frame? I don't.

^The Billboard article said that Donda got over 60M streams, so it wasn't exactly 60M.
before this week: #1 Scorpion #2 KOD - 64.5M - confirmed #3 Views 63.5M - confirmed
So Donda had 3rd most, it means it had ~64M streams.
The other article mixed things up, ironically since it comes from a site called Apple Insider.

Kanye West will score 2021's biggest debut so far as the long-awaited Donda (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) heads for a resounding #1 bow. Halseyβs acclaimed, Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross-produced If I Canβt Have Love, I Want Power (Capitol) lands in the runner-up spot. Galactic/Republicβs Lil Tecca rounds out the weekβs Top 10 debuts.
In other news, does anyone know which dry white wine pairs best with horse dewormer?

That's a really good pure sales figure for Kanye, considering it's only available digitally.

Quite a downgrade from Halsey. It will mark her lowest opening yet. I hope it has legs.

This man dropped a 3 pack and literally debuted songs in the Top 3 spots like. He's just universal, I'm not mad at it.

Iβm surprised that Halsey isnβt pulling in better streams given the opening of the last album, the positive critical reception, and the natural curiosity that would arise with it not being previewed prior to release.

Not that I think it would have made that much of a difference but she didn't help herself by not doing more to put it out there that she had an album coming. She just revealed the cover and acted like her starpower was enough to translate to massive engagement when the album dropped.

I also wonder if DONDA fully controlling the music conversation this week resulted in lower numbers simply because the word of mouth that could have been there wasnβt. I saw a lot about Halseyβs album when it dropped but the second DONDA came out, everyone had refocused their attention.

^To a certain extent, yes. But I wouldn't think, generally speaking, that fans of Kanye are necessarily also fans of Halsey.

I mean this strategy was working well enough to give Halsey their second No. 1 album with solid opening figures... until D*nda was released and cockblocked them.

Yes, they would have debuted at #1 if Donda didn't drop but the numbers would have been really low (as we now see HDD predicting them to be). I just feel like they could have done more and not the week the album dropped. They should have done some promo a week or two beforehand.

Halsey definitely has a solid following. 98k off of a surprise drop isn't bad at all. She(please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe thier pronouns are she/they?)could still trend upwards to 100k!

^If anything, the one thing that it has going for it is good reviews. If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power has a Metacritic score of 80, while Donda has 51.

98k off of a surprise drop isn't bad at all. But that is the problem this isn't a surprise drop. Those 98k are thanks to big physical sales (which are thanks to different vinyls). She had an IMAX film that went along with the album. And since only 24k are from SEA/TEA, it doesn't speak good for the longevity of the album (commercially).

Halsey's number is really good imo, 100k with an experimental album with 0 singles prior to release is nothing to be ashamed of.

If we could compare Halsey to her female peers such as Bebe Rexha, Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, Tori Kelly... i think she's still on the top of her game.

Halsey's streaming numbers are underwhelming but when you consider nothing on the album sounds like a hit and how she/they just put the album artwork out and left it kinda makes sense.
