To be fair, Imagine Dragons is old news in this day and age. I like "Radioactive" and "Believer" but their sound is very formulaic, and quite frankly the industry has changed considerably since 2018. Sales are non-existent, radio has moved on from groups like them, and people aren't all that interested in streaming them constantly. The same exact scenario happened to OneRepublic... people lose touch and things change...

^ As a fan of theirs, I'm ok with this performance though. In terms of the quality of the album, it is more of the same and continues in their usual style, but the songs are new, so they still sounded fresh to me, and I enjoyed them. As for the numbers, I'm ok with them as well, they were already possibly the biggest rock band of the 2010s, so they were never going to sell millions of records forever, and this kind of closes a nice chapter on their career.

hitsdailydouble.com/streaming_songsBased on the audio streaming (693~ million), he will do around 550k~. As usual, they have no idea how to project his numbers and embarrassingly went out of their way to overproject.

Because 693m streams, I assume, would equal around 550k units and with an additional 50k in pure sales he should reach 600k.

HITS is projecting 49k sales so that’ll easily put him over 600k.

Scorpion did 745.92 million audio streams and that equaled 551K SEA. That is a rate of 1,353 streams equaled 1 album sale. (745.92m / 551k) Using that same rate with CLB: 693.47 / 1,353 = 513K SEA units. 40-50k album sales would put it in the 550k range.

Pretty sure HDD doesn't include YouTube in their streaming figures, even though those streams aren't worth as much as on-demand streams so it probably won't make much of a difference with the SEA.

hitsdailydouble.com/sales_plus_streaming&redirect=mobile604K for Drake. So the SEA ratio is insanely paid, even way more than Scorpion. 693.5 million audio streams / 542,329 SEA units = 1,278 streams per unit on average. 1,250 paid streams = 1 sale 3,750 free streams = 1 sale That number is nearly 1,250 -- the number if every single stream was paid.

Good for Drake and Gaga.
Decent for Imagine Dragons all things considered.
Not great for Halsey week 2.
Billie still trailing her previous album but having OK legs so far.

I'm not gonna lie I am very surprised that Iron Maiden's new album ended up higher than Imagine Dragons new album, In fact I thought that Mercury - Act 1 would have no problem debuting in the Top 5 here but I was totally wrong.

Iron Maiden moving an impressive number of albums, and the band will get coverage for that via Billboard's weekly Album Sales article.
Enigma- Justin Bieber's Never Say Never: The Remixes hit No. 1 in early 2011. Not sure off-hand if any others charted high after that.

Not Harry’s Fine Line gaining 11% in his first week of touring and never leaving the top 40 since its release in December 2019. The success of this album is completely underrated. Never re-released, took a few blows with the last single, but longevity remains. King things.

Streaming is definitely keeping a lot of artists more relevant than what they would be without it. I would hope so, seeing as pure sales are dead in the water and streaming accounts for 90% of all music consumption in the U.S. In this music era, the most successful artists are the biggest streaming artists.

I don't understand the people trying to throw slick shade by insinuating that artists who can still manage to pull 100K pure sales after lengthy efforts are somehow more special than those who can't. Who cares? In today's music market, you can still be relevant and largely successful if you pull 0 units in pure sales but are solid enough on streaming. Streaming is the present and future of the music industry so it's interesting to see that there are some people who still haven't embraced it.

It's impressive both when an act sees big streaming numbers, and also when they move a respectable (for the current climate) number of physical units. Obviously, big streaming activity favors newer/younger/more contemporary acts, outside of holiday music or perhaps acts whose compilations benefit from a passing or a biopic. Physical sales - vinyl in particular, given the price tag - are still relevant, in that they generate a decent amount of money for a label/act.
I do agree that it's physical sales that are keeping older/veteran acts somewhat commercially relevant, as without them, they'd have little to no chance of charting well with new releases on the Billboard 200, for the aforementioned reason.

Because streaming is propelled more by younger people and sales is historically valuable (and propelled more by older people), it’s seen as more legitimate for some people. I wonder if any of those people are the same ones who argue about how pop radio is ageist because they don’t play Madonna or anyone over 40.

Gen Z queen Olivia Rodrigo has the bestselling release of 2021.
I don't see any ageism or propulsion by old people there, but okay.

Although Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Lionel Richie, Chicago, etc scored a lot more AC hits in their peak, their recurrent airplay is much lower than Madonna's. A lot of AC radio's recurrent airplay is not old AC radio hits, but rather old Pop Radio hits.

They treated it more like a lead than “Lights Up,” which I’m not even sure was serviced to radio in the first place.
