Chile, Taylor Dayne said a check is a check and got PAID! I mean people did steal money from her in her prime. She didn't write most of her earlier stuff and when she did start writing, her label stopped supporting her.

And she could have done a much better job of maintaining her discography and legacy for the next generation. Something she sorely missed out on. I don't think she did that bad a job, or if she did it didn't really end up mattering. Every zoomer I know loves Janet. I think she definitely doesn't have the iconic status her chart history would suggest. My experience has been that people (except for black people) have NO idea she had the same amount of hits as Michael.

Sean Kingston was going strong from 2007-2010 then basically disappeared off the face of the Earth

Flo Rida was getting hit after hit between 2007-2016, but he switched to mainly releasing singles and hasn't gotten a hit since.

Hear me out, but Pink Friday Roman Reloaded doomed Nicki's longterm career. It was too pop for a lot of her fanbase and she never quite regained the level of respect she got with her debut and her features like Monster. It was a slow decline and she's had a lot of success since, but I really do think that album affected her career in a really negative way.
Sinhead O'Connor completely tanked her commercial career when she did that stunt with the Pope's picture on SNL.
The day Jesy Nelson found out about spray tan she was over as well.

Pitbull had many hits leading from 2009-2016 and has disappeared and only makes the occasional appearances on DWTS. He ruined his career by keeping the same formula for every song and people moved on to Post Malone and other rappers since that time. The last song I heard from him was in the Aquaman movie a few years back.

I do agree with your point about him sticking too much to his formula and not having a lot of variety as an artist, though.

Chained to the Rhythm. It debuted high, but failed to make the YE top 50 despite being released relatively close to the start of the year and being the first single off an album by one of the biggest pop stars of the early to mid 2010s. I also remember the lyrics and music video being widely mocked as too "we live in a society" and for being hypocritical coming from a massive pop star like Katy.
The Witness era as a whole fell victim to Murphy's Law, but CTTR was the individual moment from it that damaged Katy's career the most, and imho it can be blamed for her not having any top ten singles in the five years since.

Is it too early for this one but it kinda fits Lorde's Solar Power era..a big downfall from her first 2 eras and the canceled MTV VMAs performance etc.

I gotta disagree. "Rise" (ironic) was a much bigger sign of her downfall. That song was supposed to be her big comeback after a couple quiet years and it FLOPPED. CTTR was slept on due to underexposure. If it got a bigger push & more promo it would've been a 20 weeks in top 10 hit. Justice for CTTR!

But was Rise ever a song they really thought was going to be a big hit? That wasn't my impression

Homegirl waited ages to drop an album and then dropped the snooziest thing possible. Wouldn't have been a huge deal if she wasn't about to fade into obscurity for another 5 years.
