KACEY, KEEM LEAD NEW RELEASES Kacey Musgraves’ star-crossed (Interscope/MCA Nashville) is headed for the week’s biggest debut—the album broke the record for single-day streams for a female country artist at Spotify. star-crossed is on pace for a Top 3 bow, as blockbusters from Drake and Kanye West hold court at the front of the chart.
Musgraves’ start could be as much as 40% greater than her previous album, the Grammy-winning Golden Hour which opened with 49k in 2018. pgLang/Columbia’s Baby Keem is aiming for a Top 5 debut at around 55k.
Kacey Musgraves (Interscope/MCA Nashville) 60-70k total activity, 35-40k albums Baby Keem (pgLang/Columbia) 50-55k, 2-4k
There's a lot happening this weekend. We deserve a drink.

Yay for Kacey, this far into her career, getting her best debut! Also, her breaking that streaming record!

Great start for both Kacey and Keem! I enjoyed both albums a lot. I hope both can somehow have longevity, although I'm not betting on it.

I guess HITS isn't counting Taylor Swift's Fearless re-recording for that record? With nearly 143 million first-week streams, I would think it had more Spotify action in its first day. Nonetheless, that is a nice debut for KM.

Any estimate for Drake's second-week number? I'm interested in hearing about that.

If I must guess, somewhere around 200k perhaps. If the Spotify/others ratio remains the same, it'd collect around 300 million streams.

Scorpion did 335k in its second week, so CLB will end up about 100k-110k below that.

In My Feelings exploded during Scorpion’s second week (rising to #1 on Hot 100) and kept it going strong the following 2-3 months so yeah. It was never gonna be on par with Scorpion’s following week numbers.
I hope Aaliyah squeezes into the top 10!

39k sales is pretty good for a country female these days.

violentdreams Scorpion (week 1): 732K Scorpion (week 2): 335K Loss = 397K. CLB (week 1): 613K CLB (week 2) 220K Loss = 393K. I wasn't really taking the size of Scorpion's drop into account since it had such a robust pure sales opening compared to CLB and lost basically 90% of those sales in its second week. SEA wise, it's more like a 260k drop vs. a 350k drop, which is definitely a lot more. What iHype said does contextualize that more though, as Way 2 Sexy is way less of an social phenomenon than In My Feelings and therefore isn't doing as much heavy lifting for the album as that song was. Without any truly overwhelming smash hits, I would say in the long term this looks to be a More Life sized album, which isn't an insult, that album had plenty of solid hits with good longevity. That's what I was curious about, if it would end up on that level or another juggernaut on the same level as Views or Scorpion. My curiosity still stands, since I have no clue where it's gonna stabilize or if it has any sleeper hits that will keep it performing well in the months to come (Race My Mind is one I don't think we've seen the last of but that's up to the people to decide).

39k sales is pretty good for a country female artist these days. Because I believe only Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Eric Church from this year have higher pure sales numbers than this.

Kacey's numbers are great! She is probably one of the acts that benefitted from the VMA performance.

Hopefully, you do not let her drop 80% in week two like you did with Lorde

"the first rap album to spend its first two weeks at #1 this year"
The only other that has spent two weeks in general is A Gangsta's Pain. Hasn't been very good year for rap albums so far in that sense. Last year, there were 5 rap albums that got 2 weeks or more. There's still time of course.

Drake’s blockbuster Certified Lover Boy (OVO/Republic) is enjoying a second week at #1 on the HITS Top 50. The 6-God’s sixth studio album earned 233k in week two, following a record-setting opening week in which CLB shattered streaming records and scored the year’s biggest debut. In just two weeks of activity, CLB has already earned north of 1 billion U.S. streams.
Kanye West’s Donda (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) remains at #2 in its third week with 80k.
The top debut belongs to Kacey Musgraves’ star-crossed (Interscope/MCA Nashville). Her new set, the follow-up to 2019 Grammy Album of the Year Golden Hour, scores the biggest opening of Musgraves' career at #3 with 73k.
Rising hip-hop star Baby Keem also lands a Top 5 bow with his debut album, The Melodic Blue (pgLang/Columbia), which bows at #4 with 54k. Geffen’s Olivia Rodrigo rounds out the Top 5 with SOUR.
Further down the chart, self-titled re-releases from Metallica (Blackened) and Aaliyah (Blackground/EMPIRE) appear at #10 and #12, respectively.
The chart’s greatest gainers are Glass Animals, who dropped a deluxe version of Dreamland (Wolf Tone/Republic), and Walker Hayes’ Country Stuff (Monument), led by the Applebee's anthem “Fancy Like,” which notched its 11th consecutive week at #1 on our Country Song Streams chart.
Streeting this week are titles from Columbia’s Lil Nas X, Big Machine’s Carly Pearce and Since '93/RCA’s Tems. Now we must return to Twitter so we can read more about swollen balls.
