The only thing I like about the purple dress (and I'm sure this is just my mind) but red and blue combined is purple.... so like it's Wrapped in Red but she's sad/Blue. Idk /dumb. But she looks gorgeous. Kelly inspired by Halsey's "Colors" confirmed! No, but really, the green dress cover would have been so much better. Or gold to match the background. |

I personally love the cover. She looks stunning and the dress is gorgeous as well. It’s giving a beautiful classic/old Hollywood glamour vibe.

Ok, so I saw the track list and the first thing I wondered about was what was so different for this album? Kelly mentioned it would be different. Nothing in the track list stands out and Christmas breakup songs aren’t exactly rare.
Then I thought about Jack’s description of the single as “doo-wop” and looked at the single and album covers. The covers are very old Hollywood glamour. Is it possible this song has originals that are more big band in nature? Maybe even the covers are re-imagined and done in that style?
Probably not even close but it would be neat and would make the album different.

I particularly like it when Kelly changes the lyrics of the last chorus (see Piece By Piece). I agree, based on the 30 second clip, that it doesn’t have the immediate punch-you-in-the-face pop bliss of Underneath The Tree, and that the shift from the chorus to the verse is a tad awkward at first, but I like the overall sound of it (again, judging from the clip), it grows on repeated listens, and I just really prefer these lyrics to UTT. I guess I’m a sucker for a good breakup song. Love how she references some songs from Wrapped in red as a real continuation of the story. Based from the clip, it's probably going to land somewhere in the bottom half of her OG christmas songs for me, but it's not that the song sounds bad, just that all her previous releases are excellent/great tier. Loving the doo-wop sound too, hopefully the whole album production relies on that retro/big-band sound, that could really make it stand on it's own against Wrapped in red.
Edit: HER VOICE, ugh, her tone is amazing.

Christmas Eve is vvv underrated, I think!
I think with this release - and look away canonical music purists - I might rejig my Kelly Christmas albums to have a 'Christmas Covers' album and a 'Christmas Originals' album since there will be enough to make both when the times comes.

I always think it’s funny how Christmas Eve is such a polarizing song in the fanbase; people either love it or hate it. (I personally love it.)

It doesn't give me Christmas spirit as in hearing it and feeling nostalgic for the season based on clip it gives me a good throwback old school pop song with a dope ass band but not instant love for me like Underneath The Tree ( to be fair hard to compare 99% of Xmas songs to that one it was instant classic bop)

The bar set by Underneath The Tree is just too high, imo her best songwriting in all 20 years. But I think this song is super charming and I'm so excited for the other originals (esp the Ari duet).
EDIT: Also I was initially disappointed that the vibe of the tracklist / production on CIC wasn't darker or more untraditional, but in hindsight I do hope she has saved the best of her personal/intimate songwriting for a proper KC8, and really put her artistry and songwriting on display. This is premature obviously, maybe the record showcases some of it, but just a thought.

i listen to the song twice before i sleep, i like the beginning and the end the bridge she reach it higher which feel like christmas
not sure about the chorus, which 1 sentence is so long and molodyless which people can hear in that clip

I actually quite like it and comic-themed lyric video was actually very well done as well. I mean the amount of shade she threw at her ex in the lyrics and visuals in the mini-movie lyric video, especially kicking him to the curb at 2:25-2:30, is immeasurable and will definitely get talked about. I can’t imagine how shady the actual music video will be, lol. Finally, I like how she cleverly referenced many of the original songs from ‘Wrapped in Red’ and newer ones (‘Winter Dreams, ‘Underneath the Mistletoe’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Blue Christmas’, ‘Underneath the Tree’, etc). |
