It is SO GOOD! The climax gives me goosebumps every single time! I am a little let down (but not surprised!) not even a tweet or post announcing it was coming. Her show page advertised the This Is Us finale but not this. I know it’s early in the day but a “This comes out tomorrow” on her own socials isn’t too much to ask for. It’s also free?! I wouldn't be surprised if the rollout aside from the press release this morning was put on hold/scrapped due to the events in Texas yesterday. The Kellyoke for the June 9th episode of TKCS will be Happier Than Ever, so maybe there will be a brief announcement that she has an EP out. ----------- There's a pre-sale banner up at her merch site for the Kellyoke CD: www.kellyclarksonmerch.com/en/kelly-clarkson/kellyoke-cd/075678632334.html

^How do we know that? We rarely ever get the schedule for the following week more than a few days in advance (let alone two weeks in advance). Are they re-airing the original cover or is she singing it again with this new arrangement?

I know this has been mentioned already but here's the press release they sent out today:
KELLY CLARKSON ANNOUNCES KELLYOKE EP
6-TRACK COLLECTION ARRIVES JUNE 9TH, FEATURING STANDOUT COVERS FROM THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW
MIGHTY RENDITION OF BILLIE EILISH’S “HAPPIER THAN EVER” AVAILABLE TODAY GRAMMY-winning global superstar Kelly Clarkson has announced a blockbuster KELLYOKE EP – arriving Thursday, June 9th via Atlantic Records. Preceded today by a mighty rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever,” the 6-track collection features new studio recordings of some of Clarkson’s favorite covers performed on The Kelly Clarkson Show, ranging from modern hits to timeless classics. Since the premiere of The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019, Kellyoke has become an institution in its own right with over 500 songs covered to date and counting. The fan-favorite segment sees Clarkson and her band, Y’all, turn audience requests and personal favorites into stunning performances that captivate viewers and the internet alike. A longtime staple of Clarkson’s live show, the series was helmed by her long-time music director Jason Halbert, who along with vocal director Jessi Collins expertly tailor the performances for what has been deemed “one of the best things to happen to daytime television” by Vulture and “wildly popular” by Billboard. “Music is in the DNA of everything I do, so when ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ started we knew it was the perfect way to kick off every episode. Over 500 songs later, and we’re still not running out of amazing artists to pay tribute to. Picking just six was near-impossible, but these songs have been some of my favorites. Thanks for singing along with me y’all!” – KELLY CLARKSON KELLYOKE EP: 1. “Blue Bayou” (by Linda Ronstadt) 2. “Call Out My Name” (by The Weeknd) 3. “Happier Than Ever” (by Billie Eilish) 4. “Queen Of The Night” (by Whitney Houston) 5. “Trampoline” (by Shaed) 6. “Fake Plastic Trees” (by Radiohead) ABOUT KELLY CLARKSON:
Kelly Clarkson is among the most popular artists of this era with total worldwide sales of more than 25 million albums and 40 million singles. The Texas-born singer-songwriter first came to fame in 2002 as the winner of the inaugural season of American Idol. Clarkson’s debut single, “A Moment Like This,” followed and quickly went to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, ultimately ranking as the year’s best-selling single in the U.S. Further, Clarkson is one of pop’s top singles artists, with 19 singles boasting multi-platinum, platinum and gold certifications around the world, including such global favorites as “Miss Independent” and “Because of You.” Clarkson has released nine studio albums (Thankful, Breakaway, My December, All I Ever Wanted, Stronger, Wrapped In Red, Piece By Piece, Meaning of Life, When Christmas Comes Around…), one greatest hits album, and two children’s books (New York Times Top 10 best seller River Rose and the Magical Lullaby and the follow up River Rose and the Magical Christmas). She is the recipient of an array of awards including three GRAMMY Awards, four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, two American Country Awards, one Country Music Association Award, and two Daytime Emmy Awards. She is also the first artist to top each of Billboard’s pop, adult contemporary, country and dance charts. Clarkson is currently filming season 3 of her own multi-Emmy Award-winning daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has already been picked up for its 4th season.

So the mystery remains about why Queen of the Night is on there. Was it recorded for an episode that never aired or something? Do I just not remember it? I know someone else didn’t remember her doing that.

I'm guessing it's either a treat for the fans or as you suggested, one they taped but never made it to air. Aside from the demo she has only performed it once (2015 in London).

Maybe it's just a song she really likes or wanted to record. But I've never heard her do it outside of the demo.

I think this is the best that the incredible layers & complexity to her voice have been captured on record. Especially that first half. Unreal.

Imagine if she used Queen of the Night as promotion for the announcement that her show is moving to late night format?!? LOL, I know that's not at all the case but it's a fun thought experiment.

The "I don't relate to you, NO!" is so full of emotion. Kelly is the best vocalist out there right now. She has mastered her voice.

The album that never ends... I mean 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY' out now!

Firstly, I hope she enjoys her summer off because she definitely deserves it. Secondly, I'm wondering when she will be ready for the album to come out. Adele wasn't finished with '30' when she hosted SNL and the album didn't come out for another year after that and so I am hoping it's not a similar experience with Kelly. I am hoping it comes this year but honestly I don't know anymore.

I would be shocked if it was out this year The best hope is maybe next year. Honestly the E! article made it sound more ominous if/when it will come out. I can understand it would be difficult to have to talk about with 56789th interviewer about the emotions behind her writings. And she knows the kids will be reading it all one day.

That’s actually kind of…fascinating to watch. She seems to be really struggling with how vulnerable to be on this record and managing the emotional taxation of making certain songs and lyrics public, while also balancing what she thinks is best for her kids. She sounds absolutely exhausted. I hope the time off will let her get centered about the project a bit, and selfishly I hope she finds the strength and inspiration to give us all the raw material she’s working with. Going through a separation myself I could very much use it 😭

I am so glad that she can work out ways to still release side projects without Atlantic Records forcing her to release All I Ever Wanted 2, which I feel like the scrapped 2019 album would've sounded like. Gurl overfed us and should take the deserved time off before slaying us all.

I noticed almost every (every?) song on the EP is one that hasn’t been officially uploaded to her YouTube channel. I wonder if there’s anything behind that. And I also wonder how they got the rights to record them but not release them on YouTube.

Going through a separation myself I could very much use it 😭 I know this is weird to say to a stranger on a message board, but so, so sorry to hear about your separation. Completely agreed on the selfish part though. I firmly believe she's written more than enough material by this point to craft a phenomenal album, so here's hoping she finds the strength to release it. While I could never fault her if she doesn't end up moving forward with the more raw/honest material she's no doubt written for all the reasons she stated, it would certainly be a bummer if we just got a more blandly positive album in it's place a la Prism following Katy Perry's divorce (I know that's hardly a perfect comparison, but it's the closest I have). That being said, if she does get to a place this summer where she's ready to release what she's got, as Jack has previously speculated, I don't expect we'd get the album before next year. Best timeline I can imagine is for her to come back in September ready to go, Atlantic takes the fall to plan the release, they roll out the promo for When Christmas Comes Around... again in December, and then maybe if we're lucky they launch the lead single in January and drop the full album in March. But even that seems optimistic. So, fingers crossed for now, but glad we're at least getting the EP in the meantime!

And I also wonder how they got the rights to record them but not release them on YouTube. The mechanics of licensing in the music industry is very complex. I studied it a bit in college, but the industry has changed so much since I graduated 10+ years ago with streaming/YouTube being introduced. It's worth nothing that at some point most of the covers (if not all of them) were on her official channel for a time. That interview was hard to watch. She looks like she's about to burst at the seams at any second. I truly hope this time off helps her recalibrate. Divorce aside, I kind of saw this coming based on how much she was taking on at one point. TKCS, The Voice, being a mom and the 9,000 other duties she has. How this woman got even 2 hours of sleep a night is insane to me. On a brighter note, we have some KILLER covers coming up. I don't know definitively, but I have a feeling the June 9th show will be the closer for the season with the release of the EP. The "Happier Than Ever" cover WILL be new and not a repeat of the last performance. Would not be surprised if this becomes a staple in her set moving forward. It is truly one of the best vocals she has EVER recorded. Next week! Monday: N/A (Memorial Day) Tuesday: UNINVITED - Alanis Morrisette (*Screams in gay*) Wednesday: Smokey Mountain Rain - Ronnie Mislap Thursday: Georgia on My Mind - Ray Charles Friday: Here Comes the Rain Again - The Eurythmics The following week! Monday: Gaslighter - Dixie Chicks Tuesday: Careless Whisper - George Michael Wednesday: Save Your Tears - The Weeknd Thursday: Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish

I think she should release the “divorce album” without fanfare. No promo. Never sing the songs live. Let the music tell the story.

Lowkey a little disappointed we won't have anymore KC Classics until the fall, but oh well. Girl has fed us enough.

What, if anything, do we think will be in store for Kelly’s 20th anniversary this fall?

What, if anything, do we think will be in store for Kelly’s 20th anniversary this fall? It would be neat if TKCS recognized it by having some of the judges and former contestants back on the show, maybe even surprise her with their appearance. Not sure how much Idol will do, they seem to basically ignore Kelly since the show is on ABC and Kelly now runs NBC.

Popped in here to rave over the studio version of Kelly’s cover of “Happier Than Ever.” Good God almighty, what a voice. One of the greatest that will ever be remembered. The complexities and nuances of her voice are captured stunningly on this song, especially in the first half, and that climax gave me chills. Especially when she killed us with that “just f**king leave me ALOOOOOOOOOONNNNNEEEE!!!” and took the note up even higher than she did on the show. So pumped to hear this EP of covers, and it will certainly keep me fed until she’s ready for KC10 and all the interviews that will constantly dig into the personal s**t that the music will already be telling.

I wonder if TKCS will come back early because of the Idol anniversary. The show isn't usually airing yet by September 4th.
