And I have already listened to the album due to time zone difference. I would say this is a great mainstream neo-traditional female country album and the acclaims that this will get are worthy. The new producers (Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne) did a great job too.

I am OBSESSED with this damn album. There are so many songs on here I already loved from the EP release but everything I hadn’t heard has me GAGGED. I want this in contention at the CMAs, ACMs, AND the Grammys. This is easily the best country release of 2021 thus far as far as I’m concerned.

First of all, What He Didn't Do is THE hit song on the album. It needs to be single after Never Wanted To Be That Girl. It's probably one of her best songs ever.
But to be honest, I'm disappointed with most of the songs. I would say she's one of my favorite artists, because she totally won me over with her self-titled album, which is one of my favorite albums of all times, but I don't like most of the songs on here, which is only because of my personal taste. A lot of songs sound quite oldschool country and I would've loved them to have more heavy instrumentals and a current sound, I would even say that quite a few songs sound lifeless. And I know most of guys will disagree with me, because you already loved the 29 EP. What I miss the most tho is a big power ballad, I really thought Mean It This Time would be one and I miss a more poppy, upbeat song like You Kissed Me first. I remember balling my eyes out listening to Halfway Home for the first time and that's what I wanted from her again, because she has a great voice to deliver emotional songs.
The only songs I'm keeping as of now are
1. What He Didn't Do 2. Day One 3. Messy 4. Show Me Around 5. Never Wanted To Be That Girl
Her albums are always hit or miss for me - debut was more of a miss, self-titled an absolute hit, 29 and Written in Stone a miss again, so I hope her next album will be a little more country-pop with big ballads.

Just finished the album and will just say I haven’t enjoyed an album this much in a very long time. This is probably my personal favorite since Carrie’s “Storyteller.” Not a single filler track. I truly hope this wins AOTY at the ACMs & CMAs, and hope it gets some Grammy love as well.
Hope this gets plenty of singles because the hits are definitely there.
What He Didn’t Do Messy Should’ve known better Maybe even Your Drinkin, My Problem
Also, wanted to add that Mean It This Time & All The Whiskey In The World are great also.

That’s it. That’s the post.
Carly - i swear if you continue the tradition of leaving your best songs as album cuts, we’re gonna have words.

As much as I would hate for that to happen, WHDD might possibly be a much smarter choice to get back some of the radio momentum that “Next Girl” has wolfed down.

I doubt they would do that (even though I prefer WHDD much more to that one.) I just hope they pay attention closely to the collab and see how it connects after the initial hype is gone and don’t push it past it’s expiration date if radio seems reluctant to it. I remember IHYHN still sold well after it was released, while Next Girl kind of fell off. I don’t mind it being a single just as long as WHDD doesn’t get shafted because I feel the same way about it as I did about IHYHN when I first heard it (that it screams #1)

I mean they literally released the Ashley collab to radio not even 100 hours ago. I do agree that "What He Didn't Do" is a great song is connecting well, but first of all the Ashley collab is connecting even more than "What He Didn't Do" and it even got a mini radio deal so radio is clearly on board with the Ashley McBryde collaboration.

“What He Didn’t Do” may just be a perfect song. AMAZING production (I love the steel guitar flourishes), poignant lyrics that get to the point while “staying above the fray” in a way she really didn’t need to do, and melodic ear candy.

I love this entire album. She just gets better and better. "What He Didn't Do" is an early favorite, along with "Dear Miss Loretta", "29", "Your Drinkin', My Problem", and "Mean It This Time" that said I do not dislike anything and I hope this album gets a few singles because it needs to!
I will say I think with both Ashley's label and Carly's promoting "Never Wanted To Be That Girl" currently, it makes sense to stick with that right now. Both labels would have to pull it and I doubt Ashley's label is gonna let this one go as I do think it has hit potential. Hopefully "What He Didn't Do" is next!

"What He Didn't Do" is a great song and a definite highlight on the record, but the hard-on some of y'all already have for it is lowkey a bit of a turnoff. She's left more obvious smashes on the table in her career thus far before than that one, so... calm down, lol. I do think it would be a solid single and a much better option than "Should've Known Better," which was the last one her stans were frothing over, but nothing that warrants pulling "Never Wanted to Be That Girl." Sorry not sorry. "29" is still the 'hit that got away' from this album, because I'm assuming that the third single will come from one of the newer songs by the time it comes to release it (which will probably be next summer given country radio and their glacial chart climbs).
The Ashley collab is 100% the best song on the record though and I am thrilled it is the new single because I can definitely see it smashing where "Next Girl" failed to do. None of the other brand new songs are jumping out to me in a big way yet. I think the majority of the album's best came before the full record 's release (29, Liability, Messy, Dear Miss Loretta, Show Me Around, Never Wanted to Be That Girl). It's maybe a *slight* step down from her self-titled album for me overall, but it's still a very strong effort and much better than her debut album at least. I expect it to continue to grow on me tho.

It’s good, but she has much better songs IMO, and as a single I’m not even convinced it would do any better than “Next Girl.” I also agree that “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” is the strongest single choice here, and I hope it smashes for both artists.

Well, I'm glad to have sparked a discussion somewhat I was simply wondering about whether they would've done something like pulling the Ashley duet in favor of WHDD. After giving this album even more spins, I've grown even more in love with "Never Wanted to Be That Girl" and it has emerged as one of my absolute favorites from the album, so I definitely hope it smashes. Still love WHDD and wish it could be a single at some point, but tbh I agree with .indulgecountry that the best of this album was already released back in February when we got the EP, aside from cuts like NWTBTG, "Dear Miss Loretta" (still deceased at Patty Loveless being coaxed out of her cave for that one), and WHDD. All in all though, I think this album is fantastic and easily the best country release of 2021 thus far.

I think my main issue with the duet is it feels more like it’s an Ashley McBride song that has Carly Pearce in it rather than a Carly Pearce song that has Ashley McBride in it. Even though IHYHN was a duet like this it still felt like it was more Carly’s song than Lee’s. I mean Carly doesn’t even have a solo line in this new one until the 1:30 mark in the song. I think that’s my main issue with it.

This is my first Carly Pearce album purchase, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. "Next Girl", "What He Didn't Do", "29", "Never Wanted To Be That Girl" and "Dear Miss Loretta" are my early favourites.

I love this album! I do wish she had included Heart First, but I love Next Girl, Should've Known Better, What He Didn't Do, Day one, Never Wanted To Be That Girl and Dear Miss Loretta. I also love Diamondback, but I don't really understand the meaning of the one word, if anyone wants to explain?

The title is eluding to a diamondback rattlesnake, according to Carly’s interview with the Grammys earlier this week.

Okay so I think this is my album of the year. This is excellent. “What He Didn’t Do” needs to be released now. Song of the year. How she sings “..the devils in the details, I won’t tell..” is gorgeous. Her emoting is on these songs is excellent.
I’d kill for an album like this from Carrie someday 😍

Wanted to give a little update on the iTunes placement. What he didn’t do by far has the most consumer interest out of the album tracks and is actually the highest selling song on the album (singles included), sitting at #16 all genre. The next closest song sits at #28 and is the current single with Ashley. These are the only two songs in the all genre 200 from the album.
The album is in the top 5 all genre. I wonder how many units it’ll move for it’s first week.

HDD has her outside the top-50 (Bad Bunny at #50 with 12k SPS). Rolling Stone has her at #48 with 10k SPS (3k sales).

How much do women country stars not named Carrie, Miranda or Maren usually do first week?
This seems surprisingly low to me, maybe I'm wrong? Although, I probably wouldn't have expected more than 20k, to begin with.
