Throughout the past several months I have hosted Rankdowns for albums that I either am currently really enjoying - or that I liked a lot when I was a kid. I am alternating between the two and it is time for an album that I have enjoyed a lot since it was released in 2019. 'Late Nights and Longnecks' is the fifth studio album from Justin Moore and contains the #1 hits "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" and "Why We Drink". I personally think this is Justin's strongest album to date! With only 10 tracks on the record, 'Late Nights and Longnecks' is the perfect example of quality over quantity.

I feel like I will enjoy his albums more than I expect. He's somebody where I thought his over-exaggerated twang sounded fake and annoying when he was first starting out (and putting out Thomas Rhett-lite output), but his artistic growth has been so noticeable. Like, since at least 2015 or so I'm pretty sure I have liked all of his singles. Yet also hated listening to them because they were such sloooooow climbers that they reached the saturation point well before they ever peaked But yet as songs they have all been pretty solid, and I always hear people rave about album tracks that could have been hits if he hadn't moved on to new music after two eternity chart climbs. So I'm excited to check this album out!

Also, lately I have found his neo-trad stylings to sound sooooo noticeably warm and fresh in comparison to what some of the other modern music sounds like

Justin is someone I've admittedly never given a real chance, so I'm excited for what this album has to offer! :)

edit: that was a nice little short n sweet album! I know it's the norm for drinking to be in almost every country song, but DAMN, I think this guy might have a problem he needs to do with. 😂

I was never able to find a copy of the album that had them either. I had looked and it doesn't appear they released it in Canada. We don't have Target but usually their exclusives end up at one of the chains up here.

I am looking to see if its possible to have a non-single win it all from this album.  I think it would be very possible for his even better album Straight Outta the Country to have a top ranker not be THE single (particularly since that album only and regrettably had one single).

At #10 is "Small Town Street Cred". Somehow all 11 of us managed to rank this one in dead last which I find kind of funny! I have just never been able to get into this song like I have for just about every other song on the album.

At #9 is "That's My Boy". I think this could've been a really good song, but the production is too loud in some parts, and it just isn't that catchy in my opinion.

This song received a pair of #4 ranks from ClevelandRox and gardyfan. On the flip side, six of us ranked this in the #9 spot.

"The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" lands at #3 on the Late Nights and Longnecks album rankdown! I have to say - I am a bit surprised this one missed the top 2 because I feel like I remember this getting a positive reaction on Pulse when it came out. Regardless, a #3 placement is still really solid! This received three #1 ranks (tim, castleoblivion26, and gardyfan) but also three ranks at #7 (Kanenrá:ke, bboat11, and .indulgecountry).

This hit #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in September 2019 and was the lead single from the album.

Running away with the win is "Why We Drink"! I love this song and it still feels fresh to me whenever I hear it!
