I don’t have to cuss today. Very good.
Lay It On Me is the focus track.

Now this is an excellent pop-country album. It really does chronicle her journey in the industry.
“Better Than You Left Me” should have launched her career. There’s no good reason she isn’t a household name. It’s bulls**t.

Such a great album. Different, Dancing In The Living Room, and Smoke provide a nice balance to the heavier songs like Black Like Me, What Are You Gonna Tell Her?, and Love My Hair (all of which remain sensational).
+1 on it being a disgrace that she's not a superstar. Honestly there's no good reason that she hasn't even managed a Lauren Alaina type situation, with mediocre white men with 1/10 of her talent begging to duet. I thought it might be her decision not to go down that route, but the Dean Brody duet makes me think it's probably not.

After the first listen, the new songs that really grabbed me were “Do You Really Wanna Know” and “Smoke”. So glad this is FINALLY here!

I echo all the sentiments above. Such a solid debut and hopefully one that propels her star higher even without country radio's support.

This album is just so phenomenal and it is a f**king disgrace that it took TEN years for it to get here. I’ll echo the sentiments that BTYLM should have launched her career marvelously. There is no reason or excuse that she’s not a household name as large as the likes of Carrie, Miranda—hell, even Kelsea. It’s BS and it’s unacceptable.
I hope this scores her Grammy Awards (as it deserves) as a major f**k you to country radio and I hope it does what BTYLM should’ve done nearly SEVEN years ago.

I feel like musically this was a step up from Bridges where a lot of the production really sounded same-y, but what really grabbed my attention was the emotion that came through. Maybe it's because I'm more invested in her story than a lot of other artists, but I just "felt" this record more than I would for a ton of other artists. Idk if soul-nourishing is a bit too extra of a word but it really did feel like that.
Solid debut and I can only hope her success story continues from here on out.
Edit: I also may die on the hill that "Why Baby Why" should've smashed (in an alternate universe where "Better Than You Left Me" got its proper due then WBW would its follow-up).

Awesome album! All songs are hits for me, even if some hit much harder than others. I guess I still see her as the girl who sang Better Than You Left Me, with that country sound, and this whole album is much more subdued in the hard country sound than I would have expected from her. Something like Nice Things would have stuck out here, but it would anchor her a little bit deeper in the format than the poppy sound she went for here. I mean, the album is great, but it's sad for me that many country artists I like, keep getting further away from country and embracing pop too much.

The vocals are astounding!!! There are some big things in her future, I’m sure of it. This album is fantastic. Very Carrie Underwood-like experience listening to this, imo, mostly in terms of vocals. Love it!

Loved the album! My favorites of the new songs (besides Remember Her Name) were Different, All American, Higher, Lay It On Me and Smoke.

She sounds like a country Whitney Houston on "Higher"

Back again to say I love the whole damn record. I’ve played it at least once all the way through every day since release and even the songs I don’t care for as much still draw me in with how powerful and anthemic she makes them sound while belting them out. This is how you craft a debut album! Shame country radio has to be casually sexist and racist because I truly think several of these songs could make decent dents, if not waves, on the charts were they sung by any of her notable white counterparts.

Higher than a prayer, higher than the clouds So high that seeing Heaven means that I'm looking down Higher than the rain, higher than the sun So high that when I'm falling I'm still going up You just take me HIGHER in love

Really like the album. I am surprised "Rosé" made it though, not going to lie. Sticks out like a sore thumb for me.

My goodness. The streaming numbers seem ridiculously LOW to me. Most of the new songs have under 5k listens on Spotify. I really truly expected this release to be more of an event. Also, I can't stop playing "Smoke" on repeat. Freaking JAM.

She has practically no audience due to the lack of radio airplay. But she has entertainment industry goodwill on her side, so hopefully she can make progress in her own lane. She should get more into TV.

She should get more into TV. I don't understand why they haven't sent anything new off this album to radio. I 100% get how she'd feel like radio doesn't deserve her time after how tough it's been to get much traction with any singles in the past, but since her team last pushed a single she's had sooo many appearances and chances to establish herself to casual fans and listeners as a name within the industry that matters. I know the answer to this is always "she doesn't need radio! Look at Kacey Musgraves!".. But Musgraves has always positioned herself as much more of an industry outsider.. Mickey Guyton just hosted the ACMs. She's getting huge TV performances opportunities. It's hard to say radio will never play her when they won't even push a single.. Especially when she's just dropped a lonnnng-awaited full-length album.

Especially when she's just dropped a lonnnng-awaited full-length album. I 100% agree with all of this. I feel like she has the resources and name recognition at this point to at least make somewhat of a splash on radio, even if it's just a song that hangs around and peaks in the 30s or 40s on the chart, and there doesn't seem to be any harm in at least trying something imo. And she definitely isn't in a position where she can just slay without country radio yet like Kacey Musgraves currently is, either. I love her new album and I would LOVE to see them get her some airplay.

I wonder if her label will drop her eventually. I feel like they have tried and tried to break her and absolutely nothing seems to work. I feel like they really gave this album a good rollout and were able to get her multiple tv slots to perform at during release week, but it didn’t really seem to help it.

Disappointing, but ultimately unsurprising numbers. Everything about her screams mainstream success, so it’s really insane that they’ve had so much trouble launching her. She needs radio to get on board, but they’ve showed zero interest thus far. Maybe her team needs to focus on getting some HAC/AC play, where I think she’s had some success before.

Idk how the financials work out (I was watching a Grady Smith video with Muscadine Bloodline and the whole indie thing seemed to work for them but idk about Mickey) but I'm starting to feel like she might be the type of artist that might benefit from being indie. Unless her current label can somehow get her career moving in a more non-musical direction (while still putting out music obviously)? I feel like she has a big enough following but somehow it's not translating into sales. It could just be that we're in an echo chamber that makes us feel like Mickey is bigger than she actually is, but I somehow feel like that isn't all that there is to it here.

They haven't even tried to get radio on board in almost two years, though.. It's not completely on radio if you don't even send out a single. Even one single in the 30s or 40s on the charts would help to generate a little more interest in an album release.

Ugh. This sucks. The album was fantastic. Mickey deserves to be so much bigger than she is. I feel like she’d benefit if Capitol actually tried pushing something on radio. She has plenty of options here - Remember Her Name, Lay It On Me, and Smoke all immediately comes to mind. Higher is a personal favorite but I’m not sure if it’s Country radio material.
