All these songs chosen are great but Lazarus...wow. It's really is one of the rawest and most cutting depictions of facing death ever portrayed.
Again all these are great but if there's one song I hope wins this round, it's that.

Phenomenal set. I think there's an obvious top 3 though with this set of judges.

== ROUND 1 - RESULTS ==Welcome to the first elimination ceremony. By the end of today, only 15 of you will remain in the competition.
Starting from now on, the winner of each round will be referred to as the First Call-Out (FCO). Without further ado, the FCO for this round is…
MAYMAN!David Bowie - "Lazarus"
David Bowie has been sent four times in previous seasons and in those four occurrences, they all have landed in second place. Congratulations for breaking the curse and for kick-starting this season's FCOs!
MoD: "Really powerful song, the lyricism on here is devastatingly fantastic, and the instrumental really helps on carrying the motive of the song, which serves as an appropiate last goodbye from David, in the most honest possible way." (9.0) Rom: "you know, sometimes i wonder what it's like when you die. not because im suicidal, just because im curious. the many ideas of the afterlife, if any at all, are always some of the most intriguing thoughts i have. wait no this isnt funny im supposed to be funny" (9.2) Leaf: "Honestly, I have always respected this more than I enjoy it." (7.8) Tay: "Nothing needs to be said about this one other than it's phenomenal. What a cutting look at facing death and a profound way to end a brilliant career. What a wonderful and heart-wrenching swan song." (10) Max: "It makes me sad when people are overly critical of or can't appreciate artists who incorporate their life into their art and their art into their lives because there's so much wonderful art that can come from that and this is a prime example. I think the story surrounding Bowie's Blackstar album is probably the greatest one of the last 20 or more years. Being the true performance artist he is and has been throughout his entire career, he wrapped his own final days and pending passing into this album. Blackstar, and this song in particular, were his last words and he graciously wrote and recorded them as a farewell. I'm sure he didn't plan to pass just days within the release of the album but he knew it could happen around the same time and there really is no way to top that." (10) TOTAL: 46.0 | AVERAGE: 9.2
The second best is…
CRAP!Slowdive - "Alison"
You fell just short of getting the FCO but you still managed to get 3 perfect 10s from the judges. That's still a good start!
MoD: "Perfect song. The atmosphere it creates is unique and god the guitars on this song are truly something else. Vocals are beautiful as well and the melody of it flows so well with the instrumental, it's like they were meant to be with each other. It has an inexplicable, ethereal feeling that makes you feel like you're beautifully falling in love." (10) Rom: "sigh. sigh. sigh. i hate giving my honest opinion to the best songs ever because i know someone who was trying to pander to me succesfully pandered to me" (10) Leaf: "This song takes me places, as do many other Slowdive songs. The atmosphere created is sublime." (10) Tay: "Oh god, this sounds like the kind of song you'd find at the end of an emo late 90s/early 2000s teen flick...which is not necessarily a bad thing, especially in this case! I absolutely love this! The vibes are just so amazing." (9.5) Max: "This isn't grabbing me - and I kind of want it to because it sounds like something my teens/early 20s self would have been all about." (5.0) TOTAL: 44.5 | AVERAGE: 8.9
The third best is…
RECORDYEAR!Dolly Parton - "Jolene"
A great start for your Last Stand debut! Congratulations for the top-3 placement!
MoD: "Really nice lyrics and melody, it's clear why she has become an icon of country music, but honestly I don't see me coming back much to this song, it didn't grab me as much as I'd expect a song of this quality to do." (7.7) Rom: "i wonder if dolly is short for diane" (8.7) Leaf: (7.3) Tay: "Dolly Parton is an icon, she's a legend, and she will always be the moment!! She wrote this song and "I Will Always Love You" on the same night. 'Nuff said!!!" (10) Max: "I mean, you just can't go wrong with Dolly. (Also would have accepted Lil King X's recent cover)." (9.5) TOTAL: 43.2 | AVERAGE: 8.64
Next…
GATESSZA - "Drew Barrymore"
MoD: "Such a fantastic song. Her performance on this song is really lovely, the instrumental is gorgeous as well and it's such a captivating song as well, one of her best songs." (9.0) Rom: "ayo scream is some BULLs**t drew barrymore is only in it for like 10 minutes and she gets top billing!!!! scam! what a scam!!!" (8.7) Leaf: (7.4) Tay: "SZA is that bitch!!! I love the randomness of the song title, lmfao. Nice delivery in the chorus and vocals throughout. Some damn good lyricism as well!" (9.3) Max: "It is warm enough, thank you. I like this! I also realize how behind I am because I haven't checked out much from SZA yet." (8.4) TOTAL: 42.8 | AVERAGE: 8.56
Next…
TRILOGYSuzanne Vega - "Luka"
MoD: "The lyrics of this song are quite moving, really few songs are able to talk about such a sensitive subject so effectively, and not only it's greatly done production wise with those little touches adding so much, but the melody of the song fits so well, the chorus for example is magnific." (8.7) Rom: "the official anthem of the dallas mavericks" (7.7) Leaf: "I really appreciate songs that can juxtapose happier-sounding instrumentals with such poignant lyrics. It feels especially appropriate in this song, with the way Luka is lying to his neighbour about signs of abuse." (9.0) Tay: "This was really nice! Loved the melody and hook to this a lot." (8.6) Max: "So this song is kind of like the precursor to all the music I grew up loving in the 90s right through to today - yet it was never one I listened to much, but listening to it now for probably the 5th time ever, I'm not really sure why because it's right in line with pretty much the entire Lilith sound (and Suzanne was in Lilith Fair and this song is on one of the live Lilith Fair CDs I have). Anyway, I'm rambling." (8.8) TOTAL: 42.8 | AVERAGE: 8.56
Next…
LYHOMHole - "Violet"
MoD: "Really liked its agressiveness, the energy the song drives is exactly what I like. And the rawness of it all makes it sound even more real, fits so well, great pick." (8.5) Rom: "just like the former pulse user right? also this is a shockingly 80s-sounding song (save for the chorus) from a band that's so very 90s" (8.6) Leaf: "Love how the on-and-off intensity throughout this song is pulled off." (9.2) Tay: "A rocker!!! We love to see it!" (8.9) Max: "I love 90s alternative but I've never been into Hole, so this is a bit of a predicament for me. I definitely want 90s alt whenever the opportunity arises in this game, but maybe not Hole - yet at the same time, this song is kind of a staple of the era and the more I think about it, the more I'm like... yeah, this can be it." (7.3) TOTAL: 42.5 | AVERAGE: 8.5
Next…
BENOAlex G - "Gretel"
MoD: "Man the production on this song is truly gorgeous, like the song actually feels like I'm in a house of sugar, so well done. And his vocals are amazing as well, they go along perfectly with what the track requires. And god, the instrumental of it is beautiful as well, the mashup of every instrument sounds unbelievably good." (9.5) Rom: "im trying to figure out where i know those flutes from. i wanna say either yung lean or aphex twin but i could be proven wrong edit: i figured it out (it's lipstick by ariel pink. thats what they remind me of)" (8.2) Leaf: "Sounds just as good as it did when I judged it back in the second season. The psychedelic feel to this is immaculate." (8.8) Tay: "This was quite nice. There aren't many lyrics, but the few that are there are hard-hitting. I especially liked the good people got something to lose and good people gotta fight to exist lines. The instrumental was nice and groovy as well. All that said, this doesn't hold itself to repeated listens all that well, so it does lose a bit for that. Definitely something I'd revisit though!" (8.0) Max: "This is vibey! I don't know if I'd seek it out but as part of the right playlist, this would be ace!" (7.7) TOTAL: 42.2 | AVERAGE: 8.44
Next…
WILLAPTEDBat For Lashes - "Daniel"
MoD: "Great song. I really like the kinda gothic vibe the song has, mixes really well with the pop sound of the track to create simply a bop." (8.7) Rom: "i will now harass my friends named daniel with this song! if they hate good music their reactions will be even funnier" (8.2) Leaf: (8.6) Tay: "This started off a bit slowly but hooked me with the beat. I really love the lyricism here and the lead singer's vocals are great. In fact, the voice here reminds me somewhat of the exceptional Phoebe Bridgers. Really solid song!" (9.0) Max: "This song convinced me to buy this CD when it was out. Nothing else jumped out at me (though to be fair, I didn't really revisit it or give it a chance) and I quickly kind of got over the song itself, but it was very of the moment and packs some nostalgia with it too." (7.5) TOTAL: 42.0 | AVERAGE: 8.4
Next…
HAMEDSZA - "Julia"
MoD: "Good song, but I feel like she had yet to develop into what she'd become during this stage." (6.2) Rom: "just super vibey. idk i really have no joke for this one" (8.1) Leaf: "As someone who's barely listened to SZA, I wasn't expecting this sound, but I'm totally here for it. The chorus reminds me a lot of something by Tove Lo." (7.9) Tay: "What a bop this one was! SZA has such a great voice." (9.3) Max: "Okay I like this one too! SZA is it!" (9.2) TOTAL: 40.7 | AVERAGE: 8.14
Next…
SAMOMagdalena Bay - "Chaeri"
MoD: "Look, don't kill me yet for this one. I really like both "Secrets" and "You Lose!", but for this one, while I think it's a cool song, I feel like I'm not seeing what everyone sees on it. The production and the beat are f**king great, I'm a big fan, but something about the melodies they chose to go along with them seems kinda off to me, it definetely had potential to be more of my liking." (6.0) Rom: "tells me some things i dont want to know and i cant see a light at the end for us anymore and i cant keep running all of the time no i cant keep running all of the time i see girls everywhere titty ass hands in the air shake it for the man of the year uh man man of the year man man of the bounce- wait no" (8.7) Leaf: "At some parts it started to feel dangerously close to being overproduced, but the gradual buildup throughout the song is really good." (8.3) Tay: "Ooooh, I love the dark pop vibes of this! The production is so dramatic!! The vocals sound a little bit too babyish but are also great, particularly during the chorus, and with the production being so good I'm able to overlook the more child-like vocals." (9.1) Max: "Is this Donna Lewis? Ellie Goulding? There are others this voice reminds me of and it's going to bother me. I really like the music on this. I kind of want to learn more about this artist and the song. If this were like 2011-15, it would be totally up my alley. I'm still intrigued." (8.2) TOTAL: 40.3 | AVERAGE: 8.06
Next…
FILTHYFrank Ocean - "Forrest Gump"
MoD: "Not one of my favorite songs of the album, but that says more about the album than about the song itself. I really like the guitar on the beat, and Frank's voice is beautiful as always, really pleasant listen." (8.5) Rom: "if this is Channel Orange (Explicit Version) then why is there nothing explicit in this song??? yeah thats right... frank ocean is a poser" (7.8) Leaf: (7.5) Tay: "This song is form the perspective of Jenny from the titular movie, but I feel like it's more about Frank's first love as well. I take the Forrest Gump to symbolize a man who is running away, onto a different life path than the one that Frank is on. This is also cleverly pointed out in the runnin' on my mind lyric in the chorus. Melodically, this song feels a bit lifeless, but those lyrics are genius." (7.8) Max: "Was this song submitted for me? I feel like it was. So thank you. But like Michelle Visage, I won't give in to ass-kissing. :kii: JK - I do like this song, but like most of the album, it hits best within the context of the album instead of as a stand-alone listen. But when listening to the album, this is one of my favourites." (8.1) TOTAL: 39.7 | AVERAGE: 7.94
Next…
SHOOTERLady Gaga - "John Wayne"
MoD: "Sounds like an average Lady Gaga song, some interesting elements here and there, but, at the end of the day, nothing that'd blow me away." (5.7) Rom: "i dont think john wayne would approve of you getting high gaga. also i dont think he would approve of you making born this way. also i dont th" (6.3) Leaf: "I remember trying to force myself to like Joanne-era Gaga, but it just didn't happen." (6.2) Tay: "I'M STRUNG OUT ON JOHN WAYNE!!!!! This is one of the few glimpses on Joanne of Lady Gaga that Stefani allowed to shine through, and Lady Gaga delivered." (10) Max: "In the ARTPOP vs. JOANNE battle, I'm Team Joanne all the way - and this song was instant for me and remains probably my favourite from the album. What also helps is that, because Joanne came out in the fall, I consider it a Fall album which means it hits hardest for me around this time of year. So while "John Wayne" is a song I already love anyway, it's amplified right now and I'm living! "That many cans/so many cans/that many cans/for real." Well played." (9.8) TOTAL: 38.0 | AVERAGE: 7.6
Next…
WHEATConcrete Blonde - "Caroline"
MoD: "Cool song! I really like the vocals on it and the way the backing singers say ""caaarooooline"", I love it. It could have used a less average guitar solo, but, apart from that, it's a really enjoyable piece of music." (8.5) Rom: "holy s**t is this seriously NOT from the 80s? oh its from 1990 and i was reading the 20th anniversary remaster. yeah this is decently 1990. damn scathing breakup song though. wait is this a breakup song or is this a song about death? super good either way" (8.9) Leaf: "I've been a fan of everything I have heard from Concrete Blonde and this is no exception." (8.8) Tay: "I'm gonna be executed for this, but this one didn't grab me. It's got a nice groove to it, that instrumental solo is great and some of the vocals are nice, but I don't think I would find myself revisiting this. It just feels like it doesn't need to be this long?" (6.5) Max: "The 80s are real with this one! Not sure it does much for me tbh. I'm sorry :(" (5.3) TOTAL: 38.0 | AVERAGE: 7.6
The last name to escape the bottom two is…
JAMESCam - "Diane"
MoD: "I found this quite uninteresting to be honest, she can clearly sing but I didn't feel like the song was going anywhere, plus I quite dislike the chorus, feels kinda like a cliche melody at this point." (4.0) Rom: ""hey he made the move FIRST" the song" (7.8) Leaf: (7.4) Tay: "Well, this was an easy 10!! I absolutely love this song, and I love that in this song, we get to hear the unique perspective of the other woman. That's someone you don't see the perspective of often in country music...the last example before this song that I can think of is Sugarland's "Stay," which was written as a response to Reba McEntire's "Whoever's In New England." In "Diane," this other woman in particular happens to be Jolene, and I really like that that song is here as well, so that both sides of the story can be heard at one time lol. The production and melody are great and Cam's voice is exceptional. This song deserved much better from country radio!!" (10) Max: "This is great! I've only heard a couple songs by Cam (Burning House and Til There's Nothing Left - both are great!) and this is up there with them." (8.7) TOTAL: 37.9 | AVERAGE: 7.58
Which means the bottom two is…

My first option was "Alison" but I was beaten to it. Then I asked if "Chaeri" was available (it was) but I remembered MoD is lukewarm on the song so I said not to lock it while I thought of something else.

Moving on to the next round is…GP!Fleetwood Mac - "Rhiannon"
MoD: "Fleetwood Mac are mostly hit or miss for me. This song though, definetely goes in the hits part. It's really catchy and while simple, works really well, it doesn't really get boring even when it's kind of repetitive. Plus, I love Stevie Nicks' voice." (8.5) Rom: "OH MY GOD ITS THIS SONG. IVE HEARD THIS SO MANY TIMES AND IVE NEVER KNOWN ITS NAME UNTIL NOW (){secret score}9.1 Leaf: "OH MY GOD ITS THIS SONG. IVE HEARD THIS SO MANY TIMES AND IVE NEVER KNOWN ITS NAME UNTIL NOW [2]" (7.5) Tay: "Stevie Nicks is a legend!! But while this song is nice, it also doesn't really go anywhere. The production feels a bit monotonous, and as a result, I started wondering when the song was going to end." (5.4) Max: "I know this song is like one of their signatures but it's not one I'm super familiar with. I've heard it obviously but compared to most everything from Rumours, some of their 80s hits, and my fav Silver Springs, this kind of hid behind the curtain. I can dig it." (7.1) TOTAL: 37.6 | AVERAGE: 7.52
You're lucky the other person did much worse than you. I hope you can pick yourself up in the next round.
Which means…
CHARTFUCKER,I'm sorry, you have been eliminated.
Plustwo - "Melody"
MoD: "Wow this sounds so ahead of its time, shocked when I found out it's from the early 80s. Undeniably catchy and groovy, such a fun, feel good song." (8.7) Rom: "ftr tay sent their scores before me and called this "abba on helium." this has now intrigued me and i will be keeping detailed notes of my thoughts as this song runs: hahahaha what is this chorus ok this sounds normal enough outside of the instrumental sounding like mario kart music less than abba man when did this song get big or at least big enough to be remembered as something more than a novelty oh tiktok ok something tells me this song did not get unironically big this is just the radio version? dear lord how long is the full version wait the longest version of this song is 4 minutes and 20 seconds why did they need a radio version lmfao lmao what is this guitar solo here for oh yo ok this male chorus came in way too late to save this song but i wont lie that kinda smacks FINAL THOUGHTS: well that was something" (5.7) Leaf: "The chipmunk-ish vocals took a bit away from this, but it had a nice groove to it otherwise." (7.0) Tay: "This sounds like ABBA on helium, lmfao I did not like this at all, sorry. Nice production, I guess?" (1.5) Max: "This is a jam! idk wut Tay and rom are on." (8.0) TOTAL: 30.9 | AVERAGE: 6.18
I actually like this bold choice from you. Unfortunately some of the judges are… not a fan. Shame I was looking forward to seeing more of you. I really thought about putting Helena, but wasn't just ready to risk that yet. Also I was a little paranoid if it had to be one letter, meaning I didn’t want to take the obvious pick with Clint Eastwood

I had it between Alex Chilton by the Replacements and Caroline. Was leaning towards the former honestly, but got my partner to pick between the two for me, so Caroline it is (plus, going with the Concrete Blonde song *not* named Joey for this theme felt...novel). I fell a little closer to the bottom than I would've liked, but no regrets
Oh also, Rhiannon in the bottom two is not cool
