"It's described as a song that "extolls the virtues of living the country lifestyle" and relies on a premise of "If his neck don't come out red / Then Lord just keep him dead."
I think it's safe to say that originality won't be a selling point here, then?

It has to be better than Fancy Like lol It has to be better than one of the most popular country songs in the last 5-10 years? I am guessing you don't like the song and it's not your cup of tea - perfectly fine. But this song is a huge smash. Millions of people love it. You don't - that's great. But you comparing a song you've never listened to yet to a hugely popular song just seems tone deaf.

It has to be better than Fancy Like lol Nah that one is at least fun. This just seems to be the same collection of country cliches we’ve heard a million times.

It has to be better than Fancy Like lol It has to be different than Fancy Like is as far as I'm willing to go, but I'll reserve judgment. Kidding, this will be dire.

That cover artwork and what little details we have is already making me super pessimistic as well. The amount of effort (or lackthereof) Blake Shelton puts into his music career most of the time is so... frustrating when you think about how much better and harder other artists work for a tiny fraction of the success he has.

Very few artists hustle as much in their 40's as they do in their 20's. Blake puts effort into TV instead of photoshoots, neither really has much to do with musical artistry.

It'd be one thing if it were just the artwork, but like.... he puts minimal effort into everything else, including the actual music itself. Carrie Underwood, for instance, puts more work into her side projects and her career on an "off" year than he does... ever, lol. Carrie definitely works hard. She also hasn't toured in years. If you mean writing then that's a lot of country artists who haven't put in work. Not arguing song quality, but he definitely promoted God's Country, Nobody but you, and happy anywhere, which were the last 3 singles pre-minimum wage. Blake, like many artists, worked harder when he was coming up then he does now, but this idea that he never worked hard is a bit much. Not sure anyone works harder then Lindsay Ell by the way.

I mean I'm not sure your definition of putting in work either if Carrie "not touring in years" is what you come back with, which glosses over that her last tour ended when the pandemic began..... Anyway, we're clearly not going to agree on this and I don't have the will to exhaust myself discussing Blake Shelton of all people all night, but I think many would agree with me that you'd be hard-pressed to find a major country artist who operates more on auto-pilot than him. The last album era literally had a topic of discussion about how the label more or less forced him to record an entire album because he wanted to record 1-2 songs a year and call it good. The guy cranks out #1 hits on country radio with some of the most boring, uninspired, recycled garbage (that he didn't write), with minimal promotion (that isn't immediately tied to The Voice), doesn't do a lot of touring, is known for having mediocre cover artwork... the list goes on. And idgaf about how hard he worked before he got famous because that has exactly nothing to do with the point I'm making. "God's Country" was a rare recent flash of brilliance from him, but rare indeed it was.

Sounds like an inferior version of God's Country with similar heavy riff and handclaps.

God’s Country: The Sequel

The topics in the song are overrused but I fail to see how the general premise has been presented lately. What song is this a re-tread of? Musically, the melody is new but the aura is very “God’s Country” and I like it.
Then again, I’m not surprised that the 30 people who simulatenously like country music but have a problem with the country way of life (and also happen to all be on Pulse) find issue with this song being “unoriginal.” I suppose they’d rather have another “I love my wife/girlfriend/fiance/significant other” song or “this guy did me wrong” song that they never seem to have a problem with.

The issue is the cliché nature of how country life is being presented. Country life actually has a lot of diversity, it also has a long of highs and struggles. But this song doesn't deal with that, it just glorifies it. Anyways the song isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be from the pre-release stuff...and it's nowhere near as good as God's Country.

Ahhh, hell. Exactly where I feel like I'm at for 99% of Blake Shelton songs.

There are thousands who share your thoughts and have no problem with this song/songs like this or glorifying living in the south. There are thousands like me who get tired of the claim that growing up in the south/living there is superior. Both are true. But the fact that I know there are thousands who share your viewpoint and you think it’s only 30 people who share mine (and they all happen to be on Pulse) kind of tells me all I need to know about your viewpoint.
