2014 is a terrible year for music. there were less than 40 songs on the ye list that i'd call good and 6 of them were repeats from 2013

It is not close at all. It’s literally about to be a 100 point lead. They did all this type of stuff with ME!, Cardigan, and Willow too. It’s safe to assume at this point her team literally plans all this out in advance and goes in to execute a large scaled plan. Queen of planning and execution!

They really wanted That's What I Want to stay on the charts. Well, if they wanted to redeem themselves after Holiday flopped, I'm all in.

Remember music is subjective & 90% of people's favorite years of music are what they grew up with. That being said, my favorite era of music is 2009 - 2012. To me every year of the 2000's is better than the last. The worst year of 2010's music was 2018. I agree with 2018 being the worst year. If we check the nominees on BBMAs 2019, it's just the same songs and artists on every category.

I feel like "Sweetener" singles were the only bright spot that year.

I feel like "Sweetener" singles were the only bright spot that year. There were some bright spots, 2018 was Dua Lipa's breakout year, the Black Panther album came out and my favorite, Golden Hour came out.

Ew so much bad taste coming at 2008… In addition to having a great selection of hits, that was such a huge year for the female eras (Fearless, I Am Sasha Fierce, The Fame, Funhouse, Good Girl Gone Bad, Circus, E=MC^2, Hard Candy, One of the Boys, AND Adele/Amy/Leona/Duffy all being in the midst of eras). 2017 had horrible hits in general (Shape of You, Despacito ruling over half the year alone) and was also a horrible year for women. To say 2008 was worse than a year like that is yikes. we were praising it not coming at it

For me I think 2003, 2006, 2007, 2013, 2014, 2015 were the best.
The worst were 2009 and 2011.

Within the 2010s, 2018 was easily the weakest year in terms of charts and the strongest for me were the 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016

The best years were 1984, 1985, 1998, 2004, and maybe 2015.
The worst years were 1988-1991, 2006-2008, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Billboard knowing they don't have any competition... So that means the Hot 100 and Global 200s are now the only charts that aren't paywalled, correct?

I checked other charts, it still showing the complete chart (Artist 100). But on Global 200s, they only show the top 100, and you need to be a subscriber to access 101-200.

It is nice to see All Too Well getting a week at #1 for Taylor with a re-released song and so many have doubted her success since 1989 and this will be 4th number one since that era. As for it's longevity that's another story as we will have to wait and see what happens with Adele and the Christmas songs coming soon.
IMO the worst year for music was 2009 especially the fall of 2009 with the lack of big releases that time.

In a good or bad way? Personally I found the pop music at that time was at its absolute weakest, so many of the songs sounded the same and were lacking in creativity, and at the time I was a bit worried that it was going to be like that for the rest of my life. For example Lady Gaga released 10 dance-pop singles in a row during that time, because that was a way for easy guaranteed hits, which is simply unacceptable for a pop star, especially one that tries to market themselves as unique and creative. Luckily Adele came along and turned that all upside down!

I think it's important to make the distinction between the quality of a year for hit songs and the quality of a year for albums
My least favorite year for hits of the 2000s is 2006 and my least favorite of the 2010s is 2018 and both have a lot of really good albums, with 2006 in particular also having a ton of culturally significant ones as well

I agree. 2016 was a terrible year for hit songs but pretty amazing year for album releases. Same with 2020

A paywall on the BB 200? What an absolutely pathetic decision.

For some reason I always feel these types of conversations are pointless, because each year there are so many hits and so many songs and albums released, there are bound to be ones I really like as well as ones I dislike or even hate, but there is usually no huge variation from year to year. That's not to say that I just happen to like certain years a little better than others, which often aligns with which genres and styles of music were more popular during certain years and time periods that I tend to be a fan of. For instance, I am not a huge fan of hip-hop, so some of the years where that genre made the strongest showing, such as 2003-2005 and 2017-18, I am not crazy about. And for whatever reason, 2002 and 2010 have always stood out as years full of songs that I enjoyed the most.

I just want someone to write a thinkpiece dragging them for paywalls and for how they treated TOTC, the alpha data thing, the laggy, shitty website and it’s bad formatting I wonder why I spend so much fucking money on a subscription (and it’s a lottt) because the website is so poorly organized and lags so much that it feels like a chore to use….

What's the target length? I'll have to think about this one as I could definitely rant for a while.
