We're halfway through the chart year, so you know what that means! Yup, it's time for my YE predictions! Maybe it's just the fact that I've been following the building Year-End predictions from people using real points a lot less closely this year, but the system you use makes infinitely more sense to me since real points have been so weak for most of 2022. At the very least, I'm glad that your top 50 contains only one Christmas song instead of four. If only that YE was the real one. Cause I don’t like Christmas songs in a YE that shows 2022’s year in music. Not some old 1950s/60s Christmas crap.

Imagine how embarrassing it may be for the Billboard staffers who calculate the YE if certain songs that should seem like big moments in pop culture this year don’t make the cut but four Christmas songs do. And the YE is already losing more and more credibility each year as it is.

True but usually the bottom of the list dosent have a huge level in pop culture so my feelings is generally neutral on Christmas songs being there Look at the song barely missing rn One Mississippi Thinking about you Heart on fire Beers on me The family madrigal None of those to me were huge moments in pop culture besides maybe the family madriagl and even then isn’t the most popular song on encanto

If it were up to me, Christmas songs wouldn’t be allowed to chart every year. Allowing Christmas songs to chart, and then to allow old songs to re-enter the chart after these Christmas songs leave, defeats the purpose of the recurrent rules.
Case in point is Save Your Tears. Even if Christmas songs didn’t chart, SYT would have been below #25 after the 52nd week, and thus still would have gone recurrent.
However, if they need to allow Christmas songs to chart and then allow old songs to re-enter, then the recurrent rules need to be strengthened so that re-entering songs only a get a week or two back. But allowing post-Christmas re-entries to chart into May is total nonsense and shows that the recurrent rules aren’t really working.

I am sure that Billboard is looking at the charts and seeing the longevity of a great many songs, but they are also likely rather disinclined to tamper too much with a formula lest it reflect badly on what they are doing. If they find post-Christmas re-entries to be a problem, and if labels as a whole do, then we may see recurrency be much more permanent, but that will be their call and they are not likely to make that call in a hasty manner.

This chart that we follow has shown they will in time adapt to market changes but.... The recurrency fan out there might be disappointed. Songs are charting longer and staying popular longer. Older Christmas songs fill the top 10 every year. That is what is popular Tightening recurrency rules is what doesn't make sense given the market and likely won't happen any time soon

Year is so slow and boring, I could easily make a list of all the best songs to debut on the charts this year (starting with the chart week 01/08)
Zach Bryan - Something In The Orange The Weeknd - Starry Eyes The Weeknd - Less Than Zero The Weeknd - Gasoline Kevin Gates - Thinking With My Dick (I'm not kidding about this lmao. This goes off at a club and none of the women had a problem with it) Benny The Butcher & J. Cole - Johnny P's Caddy Pusha T - Dreamin Of The Past Pusha T - Scrape It Off JID - Surround Sound Lizzo - About Damn Time Em Beihold - Numb Little Bug Ari Lennox - Pressure Carly Pearce & Ashley McBryde - Never Wanted To be That Girl Future - I'M DAT N---- Future - KEEP IT BURNIN Jungkook - Stay Alive
This list isn't in any order but Something in the Orange is easily one of the best songs, not only on the charts, but of the year in general

The moment when you realize the album bombs this month did a great job at removing old songs in chart, but because the new songs may not stick as much as the old songs, the year-end cut-off is going to be down again.
Will Billboard bring the recurrent songs due to album bombs back to charts again like the ones affected by Christmas?

Will Billboard bring the recurrent songs due to album bombs back to charts again like the ones affected by Christmas?Definitely will be by the 06-11 chart week, after all it went to four straight weeks of album bombs (Future 05/14, Bad Bunny and Jack Harlow 05/21, Kendrick Lamar 05/28, then Harry Styles by 06/04) Won't be for long, as Post Malone may have that possibility of an album bomb as well by the very next week (06-18).

No, Billboard will not bring back the old songs that went recurrent due to these new albums. Many of the songs that went recurrent were months old anyways, and that fact doesn’t suddenly change just because the new songs from the album fall off.
This is why Billboard needs to either stop letting Christmas songs, or if they do, make it more difficult for songs that went recurrent during the Christmas season to sustain a new run in the new year. If a song is deemed recurrent in November/December then it should stay recurrent in the new year. I’d be okay if the song got a week or two in January as a look back to the year that just ended, but if a song was recurrent in December (Christmas songs or not), it’s probably months past its peak, and there is no reason why it should be charting into April/May of the following year.

Imma just share my Encanto predictions: We Don't Talk About Bruno #1 for 3-6 weeks, top 10 on year end Surface Pressure #5 peak, top 60 on year end The Family Madrigal #13 peak, among the 10 that just miss year end What Else Can I Do? #19 peak, misses year end Dos Oruguitas ends up being serviced to radio and becomes a sleeper hit from the soundtrack, #16 peak and bottom 20 on year end Waiting On A Miracle #36 peak All Of You #59 peak Colombia, Mi Encanto #88 peak Looks like I overestimated a bit lol

For the week of May 21, 2022, here's where I think the top 100 of 2022 stand:
And here's the extended prediction, assuming all songs keep 95% of each successive week's chart points: Est. It looks like in the next two weeks, we'll see AA and Mamiii clinch but it maybe a few weeks until we see another song clinch after that.

Week 26 is now here!! Halfway done. Seeing "INDUSTRY BABY"'s total points at 399,999 and 1 point away from 400,000 is getting me anxious I may actually want it to survive next week's double album bomb for this very reasonI can breathe a sigh of relief with "INDUSTRY BABY" hanging from the Bad Bunny/Jack Harlow album bomb so it's total points won't be 399,999

Compared to 2020 and 2021, 2022 has been a bit of a disappointment.

It looks like Never Say Never will be the next song to clinch their YE spot after AA and Mamiii giving Lainey Wilson another hit, also Numb Little Big, Boyfriend and Bam Bam should all comfortably make their YE next month.

Compared to 2020 and 2021, 2022 has been a bit of a disappointment. For real the only reason the year end list is above the all time bad years 1991 and 2018 is because Billboard set the cutoff in a stupid point so we're gonna get songs like Better Days, Oh My God, All Too Well & Meet Me At Our Spot that are gonna drag the average up but also don't belong on a list of songs from 2022

Well, we can be grateful for the YE songs we have, regardless of whether or not we think they belonged for 2022.

Sure it was just 2021 continued for the first half of the period but the songs itself were actually good and not complete unlistenable abominations. We’re probably going to get a lot more new songs in the latter half of the year as we are right now. We just gotta be patient because who knows if we might get a wave load of new hits in summer and fall that flushes out the stuff from 2021.
