shot in the dark, but does anyone know what was performed during last year's College Football Championship halftime show?

I don't think there was any performance... Usually Dallas Cowboy's Thanksgiving game and the Super Bowl are the only halftime entertainment shows in football, not usually a college thing. That said, there may have been other high profile promo spots during the games as they are widely viewed.

I don’t think it’s her audience, but she did have the 2nd best Super Bowl performance of all time, so who knows? I dunno… I feel like Katy’s core audience here is the average American. Not the same pull as she once had, but Katy doesn’t have a majority young core audience or Stan army like other stars might. I think this spot will serve her and the song well. The KatyCats are as fickle as cats, I guess - except SPRΞΞ. It's surprising to me though because both the Prismatic World Tour and the Witness Tour had a lot of small children in the audience. Maybe they became angsty teenagers and preteens who view Katy as "uncool" and "for kids" because of her zany, colorful antics.

I think they grew up and outgrew Katy and her childish aesthetic. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it of course but if you don't evolve as an artist, your expiration date would be soon, especially in fickle Pop world.

That's exactly what happened with Katy's career...and no Dr. Luke ofc. Hopefully she can turn things around before she reaches that legacy artist stage.

The material took a nosedive in quality - and I’d also agree that Katy didn’t grow with her audience. ‘Never Really Over’ however was very very good.

Yeah Never Really Over is fantastic. For me her best single since Dark Horse, easily.
I was baffled by the poor callouts.

I would say Katy’s problem after Teenage Dream was the lack of growth as an artist. She promised “Prism” would be different than TD, but the end result was Teenage Dream 2.0, with the music videos being even more goofy and outrageous. It felt like she went from “teen” to “pre-teen” with the imagery. She needed to have a more mature theme as an artist at this point and she didn’t. Then “Witness” tried too hard to adapt to the sound of the mid-2010s, and her aesthetic at that point was growing increasingly bizarre. Then “Smile” was too little to late. I never expected her to be relevant for more than 7-8 years anyway. The shelf life she had as a pop artist was good regardless. Not many can last longer than that.

with Witness (sans Chained and Witness) the material took a nosedive I agree, but everything after that has been fantastic, imo. Starting with 365, it's all been A+ music more or less. The videos bother me tho cuz they've remained corny. Chained, Harleys and 365 are good tho. But the music has been great post-Witness.
WIG has so much potential. I don't think I've been this excited for a song since Chained.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of it was bad decisions, bad marketing, and Katy sorta going off the rails. Prism was a successful era but the cracks in the armor started to show and Witness was one giant PR mess that really hurt Katy.
But she did comeback with strong material with Cozy Little Christmas, Never Really Over, Harleys In Hawaii, and a good chunk of her Smile album. But sadly, Capitol seems to have no clue how to properly promote an era anymore and Katy didn’t seem to care too much about the charts anymore. Granted, I understand the priority of her pregnancy and raising her daughter but her lack of major promo and messy single choices put Katy in a bad spot chart-wise. When I’m Gone is gonna be an uphill battle and it seems to be one that Katy is willing to fight this time.
Just keep bringing the bops, Katy, and I’ll be happy.

I thought 'Daisies' was great. It seemed like a natural progression, especially with her Hot AC strength as well. This is probably the best chance she has to get a hit in 2022. It's a total bop.
But I agree, the Witness era was a total mess and she went from being pretty cool (Teenage Dream/Dark Horse) to being total cringe (Bon Appetit on SNL) in a matter of a few years.

I really like this a lot. If it does truly sound like it’s from 5-6 years ago it must of taken all the better parts then. I don’t think this sounds dated. There was a certain sound a few years ago that every dance song had the same drop and sound. So many songs started sounding the same.

So... "When I'm Gone" would have been inside the Top 50 already if "Sacrifice" wasn't released. Interesting. Anyway, this is going to be pulled into the Top 50 after the purges and recurrents tonight.

The song is very catchy and fun but there's no meat on 'dat bone. A killer video would help.

On first listen it's cute and catchy enough but not something that's going to change her career trajectory imo.

On first listen it's cute and catchy enough but not something that's going to change her career trajectory imo. I agree but I honestly don’t think Katy cares to be the main pop girl anymore. She seems to be fine with the $100 Million she’s made from American Idol so far, the sold out Vegas residency, being a mom and releasing the music she wants when she wants. I mean, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind more hits but I think she’s OK where she’s at.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful. But it’s like Katy Perry purposefully tried to write something generic. It’s isn’t bad but it’s no ‘never really over’.

I don't think Katy cares about commercial success anymore, she has a nice batch of legacy hits and a successful Vegas show. Girl is set for life.

I think there is a difference between "not caring" and adjusting expectations due to a certain level of success no longer being attainable.

I think she stopped caring about commercial success after Witness' underperformance. I mean i don't blame her, people moved on from her, she still makes music but her priorities have changed.

I don't know about that tho, cuz she worked her butt off during Smile's release. In fact, she was known as the hardest working artist at the time the pandemic hit. Her work ethic, ESPECIALLY being like 9 months pregnant, was amazing to watch.
