Mark my words, this will be a hit in 2022.
Social media musician Emmy Mali took to TikTok in October to showcase a little melody she had just whipped up. What she did not expect was for people to strongly connect with it to the point where she felt compelled to actually write and record a full song based on the clip. The track is starting to take off on TikTok and already is Mali's most streamed track of her career.
I am kinda low key obsessed with this. The soulful jazzy vocals, the slick soul/gospel inspired production, the feminist lyrics, it's one of the best things to ever come from TikTok. Very much rooting for it.

Emmy Meli’s powerful single, “I AM WOMAN,” beams with positivity and self-confidence. The singer-songwriter lists individual and stalwart adjectives along with a striking percussive rhythm and a very captivating melody.
Furthermore, Meli explained on TikTok that she wrote “I AM WOMAN” for her younger self hoping she would inspire women out in the world one day:
One month ago, I wrote a song for this little girl. Hoping to make her proud, she ended up inspiring millions of women.

The 'got it' part of this song is absolutely unlistenable. Would have been ok otherwise

This song is so cliche and Kesha already did it, and I’m sure someone before her did it too. I’m glad I’m not on Tiktok but this is cringe.

I didn't know only one woman was allowed to create a song about female empowerment. Hey, nothing wrong with making these types of songs, it’s just that sometimes obvious points of comparison are obvious. I'm specifically referring to this: This song [...] Kesha already did it, and I’m sure someone before her did it too. This post is clearly implying this song is "been there done that" as if 99.9% of songs don't discuss concepts already discussed before. I don't care if you think it's not good or cliché or whatever, we all have our own opinions, but if your reason for not liking a song about female empowerment is because another woman has already made one, I personally think your opinion sucks and is rooted is misogyny, even if you aren't aware of it. There is a huge difference between "I don't like this song because this concept has been tackled better before" and "I don't like this post because someone tackled it before." I hope this poster meant the former, but the post comes off as the latter.

The 'got it' part of this song is absolutely unlistenable. Would have been ok otherwise I want to like the song for its message (and her vocals are really good too), but this part is just horrendous to me and makes me not really like this. Maybe it will grow on me.

I appreciate a good female empowerment song but this seems like a cute Tiktok 30-second clip that really doesn’t translate to a quality song that I care to listen to. Just my opinion and more power to her if it does well!

I appreciate a good female empowerment song but this seems like a cute Tiktok 30-second clip that really doesn’t translate to a quality song that I care to listen to. Just my opinion and more power to her if it does well! You literally quoted me to comment on the one thing in your original post I took no issue to. I don't care if you think it's cliché or too on the nose. That's a totally acceptable opinion and I am in no need of you to defend that. I care that you implied the song is poor because someone else already did a song with this concept. I really hope you didn't mean it that way, but that's how your original post came off. Like I said, saying someone else did it better is one thing, something I wouldn't take offense to, saying someone else did it already as the reason you don't like it is a different thing entirely that's a piss poor reason to dislike a piece of entertainment media. To make it more clear, this is the difference: "Kesha's 'Woman' did this female empowerment thing better." Totally acceptable opinion, one that I actually even agree with. "Kesha already did the female empowerment thing with 'Woman.'" So what? Why can't more than one person create a song with this concept? Do women only deserve a limited amount of empowerment songs? Given you have reiterated your thought of this song being poorly constructed lyrically, I really don't think you meant it that way and it was just poor wording in your original post. Again, I hope. If that is the case, then carry on and ignore me entirely. I just misinterpreted your original post.

If that is the case, then carry on and ignore me entirely. I just misinterpreted your original post. No worries, I definitely commented late at night and didn’t go much into detail. You said it perfectly, it was just a poor man’s version of a female empowerment anthem and the lyrics are really cringe to me. I think Woman, Run the World (Girls), God is a Woman, Can’t Hold Us Down, I am not a woman, I’m a god, The Man, etc etc are all amazing songs that said what they needed to say in a really unique and powerful/fresh way. This one just seems… like a kid from Tiktok wrote it in thirty minutes using thesaurus.com. Maybe I’ve hit the age where I’m an old grumpy man now and have lost touch with the young generations but it’s where I stand. Im sure the TikTok kids will support it and that’s great though. For me it’ll stay as one of the disposable, cringeworthy TikTok songs that I will dodge at every chance that I get ;) *After reading my initial post, I can totally understand how it comes off sexist or just tone deaf. I definitely meant “Kesha has already done this lyrically” in terms of “I’m a motherfucking woman” and this one with the “I am woman” repetition but Kesha did it in a craftier, more unique way. Again, I did a piss poor job of explaining myself
