"this is me trying" has some of the best lines of her career. Excellent song with beautiful instrumentation.
"'tis the damn season" has become one of my favorites too. Such a grower! That guitar sounds so cold & wintery.

Completely unrelated, but is anyone hungry around here? 'tis the damn seasonings We have a winner! Bowing out at #9 is "'tis the damn season", probably the biggest grower on the two albums for me. I ranked it at #11 for the evermore rankdown but it lands in my personal top 10 here. My lowest and third-lowest rank in the top ten, respectively. "this is me trying" was nice, but I definitely preferred everything else in the top ten.

Next up is "betty", the country single from folklore. It was one of my favorites from when the album came out and it still is to this day. I love the country Taylor we could see here with the storytelling and the harmonicas. Even though we had "New Year's Day" and "Soon You'll Get Better", this was the most country Taylor had sounded since at least Red. What shall we do next? Maybe look at some artwork? I hear this guy's great.  |

Right after "betty", the #5 finisher in the folklore RD, is the #4 finisher in that RD, "the last great american dynasty". This was my #1 song in that rankdown, and while it's slipped down the list a little for me, I still adore this song. I love the vibe of the song (it makes me think of a train trip and looking outside of the window) and the twist in the bridge where now she's juxtaposing herself onto Rebekah Harkness and now Taylor herself was the woman "ruining everything".
Now what will be our last song to miss the top 5? No hints for this one, sorry!

This might be a bit of a shocker, but the winner of the evermore rankdown has failed to make the top 5 on this rankdown. However, "willow" and "champagne problems" which finished at #2 and #3 respectively are still in the running from evermore. "no body, no crime" honestly has burned on me a little, and I still love it (you should see where I ranked it in the 2021 country RD list which I still need to send in the next couple of hours). It's Taylor's first take on the murder ballad, a country music staple, and I think the instrumentals do a really good job at evoking the ominous vibe that the story has as well.

nbnc missing the top 5 is a pleasant surprise, it's decent but very overhyped imo
