That "Lovers & Friends" sound on many an R&B track thereafter (tempo, keys/piano, etc.) There were some before that- Amanda Perez's "Angel" in the early 2000s, being an example; maybe even Alicia Keys' "Fallin'"- though that didn't quite sound like what came after it. That shuffling, keys-driven R&B sound was popular in the early to mid-2000s.
With so much music out there, it's inevitable that we're going to hear similarities from track to track. Doesn't mean they all fall under the plagiarism category.
Should be a close one for the top spot this week.

So, both "Oh My God" and "Message in a Bottle" are top 18 at Top 40 radio but not even top 50 on U.S. Spotify? I was told to wait and see with "OMG" in particular once holiday music dropped off. "Oh My God" was top 50 until the NYE effect. And it was also top 20 on Apple Music. (climbed to #46 on spotify and #18 on Apple Music).

At least the Apple Music position shows slight promise.

At least the Apple Music position shows slight promise. It's done fine so far. It managed a top 5 debut on the Hot 100 and to hang around despite the overwhelming Christmas effect. It also has no music video yet. It should start rising quite a bit on the Hot 100 and hopefully a video release will happen in the next few weeks. It hasn't started to be pushed in the UK yet so I assume when it does get pushed here there'll be more of a push internationally (it hasn't gone to radio yet in the UK).

^Yes- while we've seen songs do very well without a video, having one wouldn't hurt.

Easy On Me is still top on airplay and among the top 10 on streaming. There's literally no reason to push OMG heavy unless you want it cannibalized.

As if we haven't seen plenty of artists with multiple top 10s at the same time...Regardless, I don't understand your response as I simply asked if the video had been filmed (i.e. is ready to go whenever).

Those songs were also Top 10 on streaming, whereas OMG is not. And the reason I answered was I don't understand why you're asking for a video in the first place. The album is less than two months old. Let some songs grow. It's not like Adele has ever been hasty with her singles releases. Send My Love was a single after Hello had exited the charts.

I think Oh My God will get more of a push once Easy On Me falls out of #1. A video and some playlisting should be enough to give it a boost. It'll wind up at least in the top 10.
Message In a Bottle on the other hand, has probably already peaked. It's a little dated to blow up on streaming and looks to have peaked on radio. Still, it's been Taylor's most successful song on the radio in several years.

Easy On Me is on top but we don't know how for how long, it could be in the Top 10 for four months. So trying to push another song that isn't strong on streaming isn't going to have two Adele songs in the Top 10 And yes I know SML wasn't the second single but When We Were Young didn't resonate with audience in 2016. SML did but it was after both were gone

Y’all in here acting like Adele and her team give a shit about promoting singles the same way Ari, Beiber and Doja would. Chill out.

I just don’t see much room to grow, and it may be a while before radio lets go of EOM. As for Message in a Bottle, I totally agree. The GP just never connected with this song, and Taylor’s team would be wise to cut its losses with this and give a full radio push to All Too Well, so it can have a Forever After All type of run.

Random question: Do you think ''Don't forget about us'' benifited because of the pupularity of AIWFCIY? No, AIWFCIY had nothing to do with it going #1. Hot 100 was like 80% airplay driven at that point. It reached #1 on radio because it was directly following two #1 radio hits (We Belong Together/Shake It Off). Going #1 on radio at that point in time basically guaranteed you top 2/3 any week. They also withheld the digital single until it got high on radio as was common practice then, and boom, it easily went #1. It also helps that it was a re-release single, so nobody who had bought the album prior had the song. Thus even fans who already owned the album were likely to buy the digital single for it and add to their collection. While I agree that AIWFCIY didn't help Don't Forget About Us, and that it was most likely the previous success of the Mimi era and the quality of the song itself, a slight correction, the release of the digital single actually came out in mid-December, a few weeks after the re-release of Mimi (actually they made it available briefly for a couple days the week the album came out, but retracted it for some reason, probably because they saw it wouldn't help the song go #1 yet and they didn't want it to also cannabalize the opening week sales of the re-release). If anything I'd say DFAU/the Mimi era helped AIWFCIY that year, as the latter also reached #1 on the Digital Sales chart right before or after DFAU did I believe. About the discussion around Oh My God, I am absolutely not against the song becoming a big top ten hit and hope it does, but it does seem that some of you are trying to twist the reality about its prospects. I'm not saying there's no chance it can't go higher, but the bottom line is that it's currently out of the top 50 (which can't be completely excused by the Christmas songs, because there are other non-Christmas songs that are new and that are much higher in the top 50). Whether it's because so many people have the album already, or because she's "not that big of a streaming artist," well, then that explains it, and we can't expect there's a good chance it will go much higher. It just all seems a repeat of When We Were Young, especially with the video component, which never received a proper video, and there's no evidence one will come out for OMG either. And I don't think the tactic of "waiting for streaming to get higher" before releasing the video is a smart choice, because by then it will be too late and people will have moved on. The thing to do would be to release the video early on, so it will help increase the streaming initially while the song is still fresher.

I mean 90%+ of TEOM’s total sales by the time DFAU was released on iTunes were from the standard version… that did not include DFAU. Vast majority of those buyers were not going to spend $15~ on buying the album again for 3 new songs, rather than wait 2 weeks for buying the new single on iTunes. But yes, I suppose they could have.

Also is it me or “Don’t Forget About Us” for sure sounds exactly like “Lovers & Friends” when I go back and listen to it lol. There’s actually so many hits from that period of mid 2000s that borderline plagiarized another hit. Yeah! & Freek-A-Leek Lovers and Friends & Don’t Forget About Us We Belong Together & Be Without You 1 Thing & Get Right Most of these examples contain at least one common songwriter. And in "Yeah!" and "Freek-a-Leek" case, the beat of "Freek-a-Leek" was the original beat for "Yeah!" but was changed.

We Don't Talk About Bruno would be a top 20 debut without Christmas.
Personally, I'm more curious as to what will debut below the top 50. Surface Pressure, Christmas Tree and Hrs and Hrs are probably likely given their recent traction, but we could get recent Bubbling Under stalwarts like Pressure, I Am Woman, the NBA YoungBoy/Birdman cuts, and maybe a few country songs.

"Easy on Me" beating out RITD's weeks at #1 would be impressive. Adele's been having a lot of naysayers this era and she's been proving them wrong. So, that's a plus.

In terms of the past several years where streaming has been a big thing, what is the record for lowest streams for the #1 on the Hot 100?

Nah, you just seem a bit too adamant with downplaying Adele, "Easy on Me" and "OMG." You've been doing it since 30 was released. You seem more concerned about "OMG" being a huge success than anyone else here. It's not that deep. If it indeed becomes another "When We Were Young" - a song that wasn't a huge success during its initial run but became a huge fan favorite and one of Adele's most streamed songs - it wouldn't be completely a bad thing for her. At least, "OMG" has that top 5 peak to its credit. The least it could do is add some more points to the album.
