Totally cool with either "Be Sweet" or "Fire for You", both are great songs.

Final Year-end Chart Closeness: Final Rankdown Closeness Final Perfect Rankings: And with that, another chapter in the rock chart rankdown book is completed! A big thank you to anyone who submitted, commented, or followed along in any way (especially on the days where you might've been one of only a couple people posting  ). This is the first time I've hosted a current year rock chart rankdown on my own, and despite not being as efficient with my work as I would've liked to be, the presentation went off without a hitch nevertheless. Since 2021 Active Rock is closed, I actually can't point you to any rock chart rankdowns to submit for right now. But I'm assuming 1977 Mainstream Rock will open near the end of the month--the second-to-last retro Mainstream Rock rankdown ever! And maybe when that series finishes...Triple A retros can start back up?? It's a possibility, and I'm sure many people will want to do them.  |

2. Fire for You - CannonsI still think this song has one great bassline. I recently discovered both her jams on the RDs and both sound like Retrowave. 1. Be Sweet - Japanese Breakfasteasily one of my top 10 songs of the year. I actually ranked this one higher than some DIAMANTE songs on my own top 100 of 2021 if you can believe that.? Anyway, this song has a picture perfect 80's like synthpop production. This is what I like my female vocals to sound on Synthpop and other dance music. Great winner. Looks like seven of us are gonna have to share the crown. singingrulebritannia . yet Another great hosting job. Love the videos and sometimes the love videos fit the song even better. A lot of great first time listens on this RD. Including a couple of Extras that would have shaken up my top 10. |

Wow I really thought from the very start it would come down to Like I Used To and Be Sweet, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see Fire for You make it so far! I mean I know it made it far in other RDs but this is even further still, totally deserved! From the very beginning of the dang year FFY was one of my favs, and it hasn't gotten a smidge old since then. Just the perfect epitome of that retrowave vibe without sounding muddled and sad.
Wish I liked Be Sweet at all. Instrumental's fun, but the vocals drill into my brain at that perfect pitch I can't stand. Just so annoying how that "belieeeeve" note is extended, among others. As much as I put strange songs in my top ten in these ranks, the overall #1 still usually ends up being something I enjoy. This is definitely the worst I've performed for the winner maybe ever lol.
Also shocked to see Witchoo top ten. I think I heavily underranked it here after a relisten, but still I thought it was a bottom ten lock cuz it just seemed like the type of song Pulse would hate.
Really shows that different cliques participate in different RDs considering Bed Head couldn't repeat that just massive alt radio blowout.
Brando is another one I underranked here methinks. Her voice is just so soothing...
Well still overall fun to listen to all these songs again for this, so thanks a ton Gates!

{I REALLY DO HATE GOING TO SLEEP EARLY}#10: I wish this was "Hot & Heavy" instead, tbh, but this is still really solid.
#9: Wow, this was top ten for a while, too. Certainly deserving of a spot here, nonetheless, the Indicators have always been good. It took way too long for AAA to catch on completely.
#8: Well, it helps to have no one rank it bottom 40, lol. I thought there was a chance this could shrink on me, but nah, listened to it again for this RD, and it's still great.
#7: "at least Sharon avenged the robbery of "Seventeen"." Fuck, I forgot that missed the top ten. This song is stunning, a true gem and a career highlight for both.
#6: It also speaks volumes about how much I love "Like I Used To" that it topped this song. I adore that their two best performances now belong to this song.
#5: Ugh, why couldn't AAA latch on to these guys just a few years earlier? Not that this song isn't great, because it is. Just feels like a missed opportunity.
#4: If anything, this is still growing on me.
#3: Wow, "Fire for You" was higher this time?!
#2: This rising from Alt somewhat feels weird, but I can't say it's not wholly deserved.
#1: Michelle sells this song so incredibly well that I feel almost lighter than air whenever I listen to it. Even if she wasn't on her A-game here, the instrumentation is so freaking tight that it would have been impossible for this song to suck. Combine the instrumentation and one of the, for lack of a better word, sweetest vocal performances I've heard in ages, and that's what helped this song win a coin flip with "Bed Head" for my #1. Feels a lot like AAA 2018, where I wish I could have had co-#1s, as I really do love both songs equally, for different reasons. singingrulebritannia You're the real MVP. *EARLT, really |

"Visitor" one of my top songs of the year. Same. I admittedly was quite obsessed with this song last year as it became one of my favorite songs to run along with during my workouts. Also, the song reminded me of how bitter I remained that the pandemic prevented me from seeing them on their tour that included a date here in Austin. Despite how horribly I performed in this rankdown considering my closeness stats, I throughly enjoyed doing this. And a big thanks goes out to singingrulebritannia for the hosting duties!
