How often does ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ chart on the BB200? It will hit its 1,000th week soon, but will it be in 2022?… or perhaps the timing will coincide with its 50th anniversary in 2023.

Last charted 1/30/21 - so could be a while
Was a regular on the BB200 chart through 2014 (294 weeks on the 2003-2009 comprehensive chart) - now charts sporadically
Catalog chart weeks now stand at 1209

Thanks, Gary.
There was talk of Josh Groan's Noel- it shot up 38 spots to No. 102 this week. Interestingly, as we figured sales is what drives its showing these days, it's not ranked in the Album Sales top 100.

Those Vinyl sales are huge across the board. It was obvious 2020s would be the decade where they surpass every physical format, but how high they can go is the real question.
Majority of Vinyl pressings are limited, don’t have much effort put into them, and take so long to even get pressed. Once the supply gets higher and we see more effort (ala different versions and maybe some type of special editions on Vinyl) I could see figures getting much higher.

This is interesting to me because most vinyl isn’t really any better sound quality. What’s the attraction? Nostalgia?

I remember someone did liken Vinyls to including bundling on the charts because most purchases do not result in people actually playing the Vinyls which I can see some point. They just sit there on a shelf/wall as a collector item. People aren’t actually consuming Vinyls majority of the time. You can’t play them outside a home and even then it is definitely less convenient than just putting on AirPods or something and streaming music while at home. People seem to moreso be buying it as a piece of merchandise rather than consuming the music itself in many instances.

There's just something about the way the music sounds on vinyl. Even on older/used records. We love it.
Thanks, Baby Y. Wonder what Groban's streaming numbers were like for the week, given that it was MIA on Top Album Sales.

CLB would be out of top ten even without Xmas albums, interesting
1 - 30, Adele 2 - Red (Taylor's Version), Taylor Swift 3 - Live Life Fast, Roddy Ricch 4 - Sour, Olivia Rodrigo 5 - Fighting Demons, Juice WRLD 6 - Inside (The Songs), Bo Burnham 7 - Dangerous: The Double Album, Morgan Wallen 8 - Man On The Moon III: The Chosen, Kid Cudi 9 - =, Ed Sheeran 10 - Happier Than Ever, Billie Eilish 11 - Certified Lover Boy, Drake

^Yeah. All Drake albums were pretty low in the Billboard 200 this week. The best reflection of this is Drake only being #24 in the Artist 100.

With this week's pure sales, Fearless (Taylor's Version) should have joined the other four albums that managed to reach 500k in pure sales this year.

Yeah Christmas is clogging the charts. Non seasonal blockbuster albums like Morgan Wallen will bounce back. A full year in the top ten seems likely before this is done What was the last album to spend a full year? Are we talking one of the two Taylor Swift albums from last year?… Not often you see country music with that much longevity apart from the usual suspects. I imagine with all the holiday influx now, it would be a increasingly difficult to score 52 consecutive frames in that region, even if it’s a smaller pool of titles to swim around.

Sour, Happier than Ever, etc aren’t magically selling 20k pure sales months into their runs for no reason this week. CLB is the 4th most streamed non Christmas album this week - meaning it will probably jump back near top 5 in January. It has higher weekly SEA than Adele’s album already for comparison. The streaming run is very surprisingly fine considering he has no true lasting hits this time.

Wonder what Groban's streaming numbers were like for the week, given that it was MIA on Top Album Sales. Hard to say. But from oldbloke @ UKMix's weekly numbers, it seems appears that Noel got about 12k equivalent albums for the week, which should have mostly streaming. If we assume that all of that was paid streaming, that would corresponding to 15 million weekly streams.

Speaking of Groban’s Noël, it’s a great album that has some traditional classics and some modern. I don’t want to say that he’s less accessible than Michael Bublé, but his arrangements might be more off-putting to a younger demographic… at least that’s how I see. Both of them gave us classics either way you look at it…

Josh Groban's Noel is not selling/streaming that much the past few years and considering how big it was when it first came out, it's quite surprising it didn't became a holiday staple like Buble's I agree, but then Groban hasn't worked that holiday album like Buble has worked his. Did Groban ever have a TV special? He certainly hasn't had one in the past decade. He did do one deluxe edition for the 10 year anniversary. I also don't think his style works as well for the streaming era we are in. He doesn't really have any holiday 'bops,' and those are the songs that do best on the charts - AIWFCY, RATCT, JBR, AHJC, Last Christmas, Sleigh Ride, etc are all uptempos (as are Buble tracks like "IBTLALLC" and "HJC"). Speaking of Groban’s Noël, it’s a great album that has some traditional classics and some modern. I don’t want to say that he’s less accessible than Michael Bublé, but his arrangements might be more off-putting to a younger demographic… at least that’s how I see. Both of them gave us classics either way you look at it… Yeah I have always been surprised that Noel hasn't done as well as Buble's Christmas over the years. Both were #1 for a few weeks and dominated the Christmas season of their respective years, Groban's selling a little better comparatively, actually becoming 2007's bestseller despite only being out for a couple months, but reading these comments makes sense as to why it didn't hold up as well. He has a more ballad-heavy, classical-pop crossover style that was more popular in the 2000s (a la Il Divo or Susan Boyle) but not as much now, and that I would say is indeed probably not quite as accessible or of the easy-listening variety as Buble. And a lack of continued marketing and promotion would further explain why it hasn't shot up the charts as highly each season.

Divide Ed Sheeran
