Wow, surprising winner. Congrats to Margo Cilker. I have gone back to this song quite a few times since submitting. Looks like one tanking definitely did Sturgill in. Thanks recordyear for a great rankdown.

The 1-point difference between the top 2 and the winner is actually the newbie? I have a hard time believing this, but congratulations to Margo Cilker for coming out first in her debut at any games in Pulse Music Board! Welcome to Earth (Pollywog) serves as an epic introduction of the world to his son. Absolutely like the bells that sound like sailing and the horns by the Dap-Kings. It's one of my favorite openers of all time. Margo Cilker is from Enterprise, OR and released some projects on Bandcamp prior to the debut album Pohorylle last year. She has been covered by Pitchfork, NPR, SCM, etc. as one of the artists to watch and got above average scores. She has the right words to present the absurdness of the aftermath of a sexual assault in Broken Arm in Oregon. She heard a woman mapping out escape plan every room she sleeps in, and upon hearing such tragedy, she “fights the urge to ramble with every three-egg breakfast scramble”. The emotional impact is best reflected on the daily activities. I definitely expect Welcome to Earth (Pollywog) to take this one because of the popularity (the parent album is an AOTY nominee in Grammys after all). I thought even with .indulgecountry's tank, it would still win because there are no other songs that can perform as good as this. Broken Arm in Oregon just barely made it in the end, possibly helped by the smallest deviation in the entire rankdown. I thought it would be top 10 only. Alas it got no #1 compared to tim's #1 for Sturgill.

Lol @ my one final top 10 remaining beating my penultimate ranked song by 1 point for the win. I am deceased. I've yet to hear a Sturgill Simpson song that I'd ever want to listen to again on purpose. The Margo song, otoh, was quite good tho so I am pleased.

Once again, thanks to all of you and especially those who joined multiple volumes of this rankdown series. I am constantly balancing the immediacy and the uniqueness of the songs, and I already have some songs in mind for next volume . Hope you all enjoyed the rankdown, and I will see you next time.

If there was ever a rankdown in which a Sturgill song could come out on top it would from within this series, so it's even more disappointing to see that it only missed that mark by a hair. That said, "Welcome to Earth" far and away exceeded my own expectations as I didn't necessarily view it as a top 10 contender, let alone a top 2. Then again, nothing really stood out to me as a potential winner going into this as our personal tastes in the Indie/Americana genre are quite varied. Most of y'all know that I'm a longtime fan of Sturgill Simpson, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise that I put him at the top of my list. A Sailor's Guide to Earth is one of my all-time favorite albums of the past decade and I made sure to not only catch the first two nights of the tour here in Austin, but also made a point to fly out to California for the final two nights of the tour as well. Again, I know that he isn't everyone's cup of tea so I'm thrilled to see him do so well here. I didn’t have as much time this go-around to comment, but I was following along and wanted to make sure I at least came back around after the finale. As always, thanks again recordyear for being a great host that takes us on a bit of a different journey outside of the mainstream!
