"Sleeping on The Blacktop" is my JAM! I've gotten the chance to see Colter live twice and he never disappoints. While I appreciate his artistic direction, I haven't really been able to get into his two most recent projects.

Thanks to y'all that the new set of reveals starts on a new page.I feel like Colter Wall deserves better in these games. As much as his vocals are often compared to Johnny Cash, his songwriting is also great. The drifter mentality is well described, and the third verse about God and Devil being the only two witnesses of an accident is quite devastating. This song is featured in many media as well such as Hell or High Water and Yellowstone. With that voice comes the divisiveness. While tim loses a top 5 and @trilogy and I lose a top 10, .indulgecountry, bboat11 and 🌺CountryLineDancer lose a bottom 10 and ccarter1023 loses a bottom 5.

The Panhandlers is a super group consisting of William Clark Green (new album out this Friday), Cleto Cordero (lead singer from Flatland Cavalry, featured in Volume 1), Josh Abbott from Josh Abbott Band (collaborated with Kacey Musgraves and Carly Pearce), and John Baumann (featured in Volume 2). The album serves to muse about west Texas. The puns (panhandler/change) are quite strong in this pseudo-self-titled song ngl, but I feel it felt a bit short musically. That being said, it is difficult for four male singers to have good harmony, so this song again becomes quite divisive. fearlessarrow, singingrulebritannia and .indulgecountry lose a top 5, while Sambalada loses a bottom 2 (and his last place is still in the game!)

Lydia Loveless's song from their alt-country/country punkish album Indestructible Machine is out at #18. In this song they feel depressed and they deflect the criticism by a religious punch line (title), which I really like. I understand why some people don't like it as it can be very difficult to take in if you are not in the particular state of mind. 🌺CountryLineDancer loses a top 5. singingrulebritannia , zack97 and tim lose a top 10, while bboat11 and gonecountry lose a bottom 10. P.S. Congrats to them to finally come out as non-binary last year (The preferred pronouns are they/her according to Instagram).

A 39 for "The Panhandlers"? I had heard about The Panhandlers as this supergroup that has Josh Abbott and Cleto Cordero from Flatland Cavalry (I still need to listen to some of their music, I've heard very good things) but hadn't actually listened to any of their music. Now I definitely need to do that because this song was VERY good.

Wait until his 40 is revealed I haven't heard any William Clark Green's music besides his effort for The Panhandlers either, Heard good things about his upcoming album so it looks like a good first step for me.

WCG's Ringling Road, Creek Don't Rise, She Likes the Beatles, and Sympathy are all great songs.
Don't know a lot of Flatland Cavalry's stuff, but A Life Where We Work Out is really quite good.

I enjoyed everything aside from my bottom 2 buuuuut I feel like "Raggedy Ann" and "Heard It Through the Red Wine" are overstaying nevertheless. Speaking of the devil... Heard It Through the Red Wine is the lead single of Charlie Marie's debut album Ramble On after two (yes not one but two) self-titled EPs. I would say this is slightly basic traditional country musically, but her voice that is obviously comparable to Patsy Cline and the theme of silver lining are great. With this reveal 🌺CountryLineDancer only has his #1 left out of his top 5. .indulgecountry loses a top 10. singingrulebritannia, ccarter1023 and I lose a bottom 10. P.S. A sad note that she is currently on hiatus as announced on last December. http://instagram.com/p/CXjiDXCvLZZ

Upsetting. But I won’t give up. My career was built on failures and not following the mold. I won’t stop. I never have and never will. I still believe in this album. And I still will push.So I became the second person to lose a #1 (and the rare occasion that my #1 is out before 🌺CountryLineDancer's). I really could have swapped my top 2 but I didn't expect this to be outside top 10. Blackbirds is an excellent late career album by Gretchen Peters, featuring so many heartwrenching stories including this one. The moody and heavy sound augment her despair to someone's death well, and her vocals near the end of the song give me chills every time. It's that good. zack97 and tim also got excellent tastes as they put this as their top 3. ccarter1023's great too as he put this top 10. On the other hand 🌺CountryLineDancer and fearlessarrow sweetie I am sorry...

Broken Window Serenade is an ode to the protagonist's secretly admired girl who had depression and was an addict and finally dead from overdose.
I want to include a song from a southern rock band and while I still struggled to pick a song from Blackberry Smoke (another popular artist in this genre), Whiskey Myers provided options when some of their songs got certified by RIAA in 2020. We have Stone which is in Volume 1, and then this song and Ballad of a Southern Man from the same album. I think this would do better because it has a more carefree feeling driven by the harmonica despite of the content.
Needless to say, this song may still take more listens to grow on me, but apparently most of you like this song more than me, as it steadily rises during submission process and even reached #10 at one point.

Country forum posters should remember Candi Carpenter as a new country female artist that made a dent with Burn the Bed, and recently dropped a Brandi Carlile-produced EP. However, she has some singles-only releases too, like this powerful take of Dolly Parton's song. i think this is an interesting take of this song as Dolly's version is haunting and lonesome, but Candi's version feels like a losing struggle against the fate. I would probably rank this even higher back then (the song was released in 2019) as her vocals in this had me shocked. Kind of surprised to see 2 #1s on this. Condolences to .indulgecountry and @trilogy. This song almost spent half of time in bottom half and another half in top half.

Listening to side projects from the people around your favorite artist can be an interesting experience. Lonesome High is from the album of the same name by the bassist and occasionally vocal of Zac Brown Band. It definitely features Zac Brown on vocals in the final chorus but the guitar/keyboard player Coy Bowles is credited instead. I enjoy the strong harmony and the fiddle in this (which is what makes Zac Brown Band great in the first place), but this is not #13 good lol. Also suggested this for a new releases rankdown but was rejected by bboat11 It being second most divisive song in this rankdown is not too surprising considering the regular diverge regarding country radio ready songs (Yes I believe this fits in today's country radio). Condolences to 🌺CountryLineDancer for losing the #1 but congratulations to Sambalada for finally losing the #40. Must have took you long enough.

Again country forum posters should know Mindy Smith from the Dolly Parton-approved Jolene cover and generally a country-folk female artist with a good soothing voice (imo). Raggedy Ann feels like a sadder take of Coat of Many Colors as while that song is celebratory in nature, this song has probably the more real emotion one can face when wearing ragged clothes. Condolences to bboat11 for losing your #1 after losing your #2. EDIT: Found another version of this song on Youtube. It's more produced and may perform even better?

No need for dramatic top 10 reveal this time. The one song that missed top 10 is Whose Side You're On by Mike and the Moonpies. We have ranked them before and it finished at bottom 10, so it's a great improvement for them to be almost top 10 bound. This song and the parent album find them doing what they did best which is tasteful Honky Tonk/Red Dirt music. In this song particular, the riffs from steel guitar and electronic guitar are some of the most expansive I have heard last year. I get the vocals of Mike Harmeier are not everyone's cup of tea, but at least it is instrumentally great. Not to mention, the rare 10/10 rating of the album from SCM and weirdly provocative album cover (drawn by Mike's wife). Poor bboat11 now loses his #3, at least he is joined by tim who loses a top 5. zack97 got a perfect ranking.

What are the surprises? The snubs? The order of these?

Great to see Mike and the Moonpies get some love here! “Whose Side You’re On” was one of my favorites from their latest album. I highly recommend “Hour on the Hour” from the same album which is a total jam for those who haven’t listened to it!
